Every Thursday Pet Adoptions of Cuero is blessed with a busload of Gobbler teammates to walk and socialize our dogs. This week Darian DeLeon and Hunter Bias took notice of our new lobby sign while petting some adorable real pups. The little "toy" animated pup is a perfect solution for anyone who wants a "disposal" pet. PAOC along with every shelter and rescue in the country - need committed adopters for all our homeless but loveable fur babies. Is your family ready to step up to adopt and provide that forever home? Please visit soon and take your pick - shelter pets are the most loving companions anyone can ask for - but they all need a little training and a patient adjustment period. We are open every day of the year 8 am till noon or call for a late afternoon adoption visit 361-243-8550. 407 US Highway 183 South, Cuero

GOOD NEWS FOR MARIA - SHE HAS BEEN ADOPTED AND ONCE WE HAVE TAKEN CARE OF HER HEALTH ISSUES SHE WILL BE GOING TO A WONDERFUL LOCAL TEXAS HOME. Thanks to everyone that contacted PAOC - we had calls from 6 different states - all wanting this beautiful canine. Please come check out all our other homeless cuties. We have plenty!!!!
What is sad, bad and tragic? Another abandoned canine on the highways of Dewitt Co. This one has the face of an angel - even in its saddest most bewildered state. As you can see, she is big and black all over but what you can't see are the bald spots obviously from laying on some hard concrete or dirt for a very long time. Plus she is very undernourished and super skinny for a dog her size. She does not have a chip or collar with an ID. If anyone can tell us more about this beauty that we have named MARIA for tonight - please call, share and repost this post. If you are the owner and you decided to "let her go" - no questions ask - just please fill in Pet Adoptions of Cuero on some history. And she does have some well mannered history because she obeyed every command we threw at her. CALL!!!! 361-243-8540

Here's our latest hard luck canine case for this month. It is a sad story but it goes to show that if you "see something - say or do something". And we have to thank two people who stood up and reached out to help this poor little mangled pomeranian. The vet is still not sure if it was attacked by a pack of dogs or it's a snake bite that got badly infected but here's NAPOLEON - a timid, gentle but cuddly cutie that was brought to Pet Adoptions of Cuero. We are sure there are dozens of dogs like this out on the streets trying to fend for themselves and while we can't possibly save them all we are so glad sponsors came forward to help with this little guys "repair" needs. He had no chip and he had no real known address and he will probably need 2 months to recover. If he had not been brought to PAOC we are sure he would have not made it thru the week - roaming the streets. Thanks to Consulo and Tina and PAOC - NAPOLEON is on his way to his best life ever!

Today was special in so many ways. We lost a dear friend and supporter of Pet Adoptions of Cuero - Cindy Egg a while back. Her family was so kind to name PAOC for memorials back then in her name which was such a blessing. But today we felt like Cindy was with us again. In walked her adopted PAOC "pup" - PARKER who left as an adorable spotted handful of a pup 3 years ago and now this big handsome guy prances proudly into the shelter office. What a nice surprise to see one of our alumni as an adult dog and best of all to see who has been keeping Parker company all these years without Cindy - her hubby VANCE . And there's more - this dear man brought a truck load of dog food - over 10 fifty pound bags. Needless to say there were hugs all around and the warmest of feelings not only for this support for the shelter but also to be able to reconnect with Cindy and her shelter dog Parker. Thank you again to VANCE and the entire Egg family - this was quite a heart warming day.

Am I lost? Am I found? Am I abandoned? Good questions and we wish Pet Adoptions of Cuero had some answers. This little shepherd mix was found Saturday morning by the closed Longhorn Restaurant on Highway 87 in Cuero. He is a puppy about 3 to 4 months old, no chip, healthy, no fleas, no collar, has short stubby legs and fur colorings like a bassett hound or shepherd. Please get in touch if this is your mutt or you know who it belongs to so the PAOC shelter does not incur all the intake vetting costs that we must do to have a new pet on the premises. Or if you would like to adopt - RYDER (his moniker for now) will be available for adoption in 5 days. Please call with any info: 361-243-8540

If you ever want to see the magic a pet can give to a senior - just visit one of the local nursing homes with a pup or two - and Pet Adoptions did just that this past week. By invitation from Jennifer Wilson with Cuero Nursing and Rehab, the PAOC team headed on over with 3 pups - Hannah, Hazel and Gino. This "pet therapy" brought smiles and laughs to the residents as they all got a chance to caress, cuddle and hug the fur babies. Seeing these cute pets reminded them of a canine or feline they had at one time. We heard lots of loving stories about their past forever fur friends. We are so glad PAOC has these opportunities to share with the community the love, innocence and support a pet can give anyone from 2 to 92!
Escorting the pets - Lizzie Rosson, Camryn Lake and Linda Anzaldua

Surprise, surprise, surprises - we love surprises here at Pet Adoptions of Cuero and this week we got a whopper! The Hunt Elementary Student Council chose to do a pet food and shelter "needs" drive for our small town non profit rescue. A truck load of goodies arrived and truly made our day, our week, our month with so many needed necessities. Thank you to these caring and sharing students, their parents and teachers for helping us help all the homeless cats and dogs currently at our facility. Over 100 items were gathered and the PAOC staff appreciates the continued wonderful support we get from our local communities and especially from the children. A big BOW WOW and PURR of love goes out to Hunt Elementary!

To all of us in rescue, shelter, foster or animal services - I am sure you agree - there are many many days when you feel you can't go on, the unwanted roster of pets gets bigger and bigger, more pets arrive at your door in poor conditions and need vet care galore, you are turning down dozens of calls each week about abandoned pets, litters left in ditches or people who just want to surrender their long time family pet, people who have passed and there is no one to care for their left behind pets - and because your shelter is at triple capacity - YOU HAVE TO SAY "NO" - no more intakes - and then lose sleep wondering what happened to all those pets. Then out of the blue something magical happens like it did for us at Pet Adoptions of Cuero today - WE GOT THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOUQUET OF FLOWERS!!! So I'd like to share this with all the rescue people out there - we don't need flowers but it was sooo nice to get them. Most of my rescue friends really would prefer a donation for some shelter supplies - but you all deserve FLOWERS every day of the year. We are making a difference - one pet at a time. Sending a bouquet of love and appreciation subliminally to you all.

It was Red Ribbon Week at the Meyersville, Texas schools and Pet Adoptions of Cuero was the featured guest this Wednesday. The shelter and rescue has long preached that pet ownership and pet responsibility is something every family should have - and will
have - when you adopt a cat or dog. Two adorable pups - GINO and PRINCE CHARMING made the trek to Meyersville as did 2 kittens - HUGS and KISSES and these fur babies got a whole afternoon full of love and attention from the students. All grade levels participated and helped the shelter come up with some fun names for future intake pets - over 200 cute, unique and original monikers were submitted. Thank you Meyersville teachers and staff for the invite - it was great to meet such well mannered, happy and thoughtful students at their campus today!

Hey - you know you have ARRIVED when the entire Miss Cuero Court visits your booth at this weekend's Farmers Market on Main event. Thanks to all these lovely young ladies who showered our adoptable pups with cuddles and attention. The Miss Cuero Court is always ready, willing and accommodating in helping showcase an event or support a good cause. We truly appreciate the Cuero Court team and their parents for always representing our fair town at events near or far. They always make us SOOOO proud!

Was it Christmas in October? Well it sure felt like it today! When special delivery envoy Audra Pawelek pulled up to Pet Adoptions of Cuero with a pickup truck bed full of pet food, pet supplies and cat and dog treats galore. Audra has long been a devoted supporter of PAOC but this time she enlisted her friends to jump on the donation band wagon and help the small town non profit rescue and shelter. A big PAWS UP HIGH FIVE to Lora Howze for coordinating the supply drive donations from the BLUNTZER 4H Club. Posing with the array of goodies are Audra Pawelek and Linda Anzaldua with 2 new pups - COCO and PENNY. The PAOC team wishes to personally thank all of generous members of this 4H Club located in south Texas - we truly appreciate your love and support from afar.

Talk about dedication and support!!! The Trust Texas Bank Employees really know how to turn TRASH into CASH! This group participated in the Keep Cuero Beautiful Clean up Drive this morning and they turned in the "top" load of trash collected. Then to make it even better they were awarded the cash prize in which - we are sooo blessed - they brought it to Pet Adoptions of Cuero. Thank you to the Trust Texas Cuero Bank Staff for making this a win- win cleanup for the city and bringing this wonderful donation to the non profit shelter. We LOVE Trust Texas!
