Got some really sad news about our old lady Brindlee today. A month ago we thought we had dodged a bullet when we found out she did not have congestive heart failure. We found out today she has osteosarcoma in her front leg. Unfortunately on Great Danes her size and age this is something that is inoperable. We cannot amputate to save her. We are looking at approximately 6 more months with her, but possibly less. At least knowing, we have time to prepare. But it definitely doesn't make it any easier!

Happy 53rd Birthday to the one & only Scooby-Doo🎉

This wonderful cartoon canine has brought joy to so many around the world in 53 Years! That still makes us smile till this day when we think about all the joy, laughter & tears this cartoon dog has brought into our lives! Scooby-Doo is a cartoon Great Dane that hit the TV screen with his hit show “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!”on September 13th, 1969 on CBS. 53 Years later and the franchise is still going strong!

We all love you Scooby-Doo💙 Thank You for shaping so many peoples childhoods & lives! Today you deserve to be celebrated🎉🎉🎉

We lost Athena today. She was a fighter and tried to hang on, but her age got the best of her. She would have been 10 on August 8th. Thank you so much to Shane at Lee's Veterinary Hospital for coming to the house and helping her pass over the Rainbow Bridge peacefully and in her own environment. Also thank you so very much to Amberly, owner of HeavenLee Companion Aquamation for helping to arrange it all for us and take care of her after care. We can't thank them enough.

Hey guys, one of the family is needing to rehome one of their Danes. It is not one that we bred. Here are some of the details from his owner.......
Zeus. He will be 1 on Aug 23rd. He’s a European Dane with the long jowls and droopy eyes. He’s a big baby and major leaner. We had him fixed and a preventive gastropexy 2 weeks ago, and he’s doing fantastic! He gets along fantastic with other dogs and cats. He definitely loves his furry brothers and sisters. He’s the absolute sweetest boy. Let me know if interested.

THE INVISIBLE SLIMY MONSTER IN THE WATER BOWL

Ever rub your fingers on the inside of your pet's water bowl and you feel a slippery slime of sorts? Well that invisible goo is called Biofilm.

Biofilm is a collection of organic and inorganic, living and dead materials collected on a surface. It is made up of many different types of bacteria bound together in a thick substance that acts as a glue to both hold the bacteria together and adhere it to a surface.

Biofilm can often be good bacteria but there is also the bad!

Biofilms provide a safe haven for organisms like Listeria, E. coli and legionella where they can reproduce to levels where contamination of products passing through that water becomes inevitable.

Bad Biofilms have been found to be involved in a wide variety of microbial infections in the body such as urinary tract infections, middle-ear infections and bladder infections.

Many pet parents are guilty of simply refilling the water bowl over and over without a wash and this becomes a wonderful environment for biofilm to soak around in.

How to reduce Biofilm:

Remember to clean your pet’s water bowl at least once a week if you can and change water daily.

For pet daycares where a host of different bacteria float around in water bowls, wash daily!

For best results, run your water bowls through a hot cycle in the dishwasher with an eco friendly, non-toxic soap to really clean out the biofilm!

(P.S. - I am going to get lambasted over the "wash once a week at least" concept. However, after a wonderful discussion with a well known pro-active veterinarian/scientist, when she studied the bacteria looming in pets' water bowls she found if you have a healthy beast, biofilm can actually be full of wonderful, healthy bacteria. It's like playing in the mud as kids and having good bacteria all over you! So sometimes cleaning regularly can wash all the good stuff away. ;) )

Hey everyone. I am asking for a HUGE favor /request. Do you or anyone in your circle have room for a Senior Dane? We lost an M&M Danes family member last night and now they are trying to find his baby Thor a home. He is such an easy going sweet boy! We can't take him because our Athena doesn't like him (we found this out a few years ago). PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know. I can not let a Senior baby go to a shelter!
