1st Virginia Cavalry 1st VA Cavalry is a mounted unit and color guard of the VA State Guard Association

The mission of the 1st Virginia Cavalry is to preserve the bond between the Commonwealth of Virginia and its military equestrian traditions, to aid in recruiting efforts for the Virginia Defense Force and the Virginia National Guard, and to enhance awareness of the Virginia State Guard Association’s efforts to support military service within the Commonwealth of Virginia. To achieve this mission th

e 1st Virginia Cavalry’s troopers, comprised of active members from the Virginia Defense Force and the Virginia National Guard, will demonstrate precision horsemanship and cavalry tactics, drill and ceremony in state, national, and international military events, parades, ceremonies, rodeos, and other community demonstrations. Our vision is to showcase the excellence of Virginia military horsemanship and to support every call of duty from the Commonwealth of Virginia.

In fields of green where shadows dance,
Beneath the sky's vast and azure expanse,
A thunderous gallop of hooves that pound,
The horse cavalry rides with a noble sound.

With manes that ripple like the flowing tide,
A graceful power, where strength abides,
Mounted warriors, a fierce brigade,
Hoisting their banners in sunlight arrayed.

Their steeds, a symphony of hues,
Bronze and bay, with fiery shoes,
Majestic creatures, wild and free,
Together they form our cavalry.

A sea of riders, like a force untamed,
With sabers glinting, and rifles aimed,
They charge with purpose, hearts aflame,
A timeless tribute to the warrior's claim.

Through meadows green and valleys wide,
They carry history, with every stride,
A legacy written in hoofprints bold,
As tales of courage and valor unfold.

The wind whispers their secrets and tales untold,
Of battles waged and stories old,
A mounted dance, a rhythmic song,
As horse and rider journey strong.

In sunset's glow, the cavalry rests,
Their spirits linger in the amber west,
Legends written in dust and sand,
A timeless bond between horse and man.

So is the life of a cavalryman and his steed,
Following in the paths of those before,
So ride our troopers and their mounts,
To join their brethren in immortal lore.
