A few weeks ago, we alerted our community to the respiratory illness impacting dogs across much of the United States. While it appears that the risk of this disease may be waning (we have seen a sharp decrease of cases within our clinics) it still serves as a poignant reminder of how important it is to vaccinate our pets against other respiratory illnesses that ARE preventable.

Today, Dr. Storm breaks down the two lifestyle-based vaccines we recommend to prevent common respiratory illness in dogs:

💉 The Bordatella Vaccine (AKA the Kennel Cough vaccine)
💉 The Canine Influenza Vaccine

Boarding facilities, daycare, puppy school, grooming facilities, or things like traveling during the holidays can all expose your dog to the illnesses prevented by these simple vaccines. Check your app to make sure your pup is up to date on their care today, or schedule an appointment in clinic to discuss appropriate vaccinations based on your pet’s lifestyle 📱

Is your pet on the naughty or nice list this year? 🤔

With the holiday season upon us, Dr. Storm shares her holiday decorating tips for keeping your pet safe from their naughtier inclinations:
✔️ Ditch the tinsel. It's not worth having your pet eat it.
✔️ If you celebrate with a tree, consider anchoring it and put a barrier between your animals and whatever special water concoction you use to keep it fresh.
✔️ When putting the finishing touches on your holiday gifts, stick to thick fabric ribbons instead of the thin curl-able kind.
✔️ Keep any gifts containing toxic treats out of reach of food-motivated noses.
✔️ Exercise caution with any open flame candles that you celebrate with.

How should I prepare for cold weather with my pets? 🥶

Winter is coming, and Dr. Ohtomo has some advice for all the Modern Animals in cooler climes:

✔️ If you wouldn't want to be out in the cold, your pet probably doesn't either. Bring your outdoor pet's inside, and know your dog's limits on walks.
✔️ If your pet is game,
✔️ A little (tiny) taste of dessert can be okay, but make sure it doesn't include raisins or chocolate!
✔️ Don't put marshmallows on your sweet potatoes (this is more just general guidance, because that's gross).

What Thanksgiving food is safe to share with your pet? 🦃

We know those puppy dog eyes can be hard to resist, so Dr. Long came through with few suggestions on enjoying the occasion with your pet:

✔️ Consider setting aside portions of turkey and vegetables (sweet potatoes, green beans, mashed potatoes) to share with your pet before you envelope them in the salt, seasoning, and fat that we humans enjoy.
✔️ Never, ever give your dog turkey bones since they can crack and splinter when chewed.
