HART of Maine

HART of Maine Welcome to the official HART of Maine page! We are a no-kill adoption center & shelter for cats. Our shelter building was constructed in 2004.
(303)

HART is a NO KILL shelter and adoption center for cats - a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation licensed by the State of Maine. We are a member of the American Humane Association, the American Partnership for Pets and the New England Federation of Humane Societies. HART is staffed mostly by volunteers who are dedicated to the well being of the shelter residents. We care for pets that would otherwise be

out on the street, assuring their safety, health, and comfort. It was custom designed for cat sheltering and offers our residents an open environment, with climbing structures and lots of comfy beds. This environment allows the cats the freedom to play, nest, and hide, as well as form bonds with one another. All of our animals receive lots of love and attention, as well as expert veterinary care.

It’s the first Saturday of 2025, and our Adoption Team is ready to help you get the new year off to a great start…and so is our sweet guy, Soren!

Friendly, mild-mannered, curious, and silly, this 4.5-year-old silver tabby and white boy very much enjoys lounging in the sunlight and trying to get the comfiest bed in the room. He will engage with toys and treats, but he is definitely more of a lounge chair and good movie kind of kitty! While he appreciates affection and gentle pets, he has his limits and will let you know when he has had enough. Soren would do best in a calm home with people who will allow him to have his personal time. Sound purrfect to you? We thought so! Be sure to spend some time with Soren in Room 3.❤️

We are open for adoptions from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm today and we invite you to join us. Please visit our website to learn all about adopting from HART, view a listing of available cats, and access our online adoption application: www.hartofme.org/adoption-information. We ask that all prospective adopters have an approved application before arriving at the shelter.

We’re marking the start of 2025 by taking the day off. 😺

Our shelter will be closed today, Wednesday, January 1, 2025. We look forward to seeing you this weekend and introducing you to your new feline family member during our usual adoption hours, Saturday 11:00am to 4:00 pm and Sunday 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Appreciations to our core staff and volunteers who are making sure our cats cared for over the holiday.

Wishing you a Happy New Year filled with love, joy, and plenty of kitty snuggles, from all of us at HART of Maine!❤️

As the year draws to a close, we are elated to provide an update on our Year-End Fundraiser. As of today, December 31st, our friends and supporters have helped us meet and exceed our fundraising goal of $105,000. Together, you've helped us raise $126,120 for HART!

We are beyond grateful for your support of HART over the past year. We couldn't do this without you.

Are there better photos of this guy? Yeah, a couple…but we love the grumpy faces Jaxson makes for the camera, too!

What better way to warm up this rather chilly Sunday than by meeting this handsome hunk of a tabby kitty! Jaxson is 6 years old and without a doubt a sweet, gentle giant with a penchant for cuddles and a slight misunderstanding of portion control. His mellow nature and soft purrs make him an excellent couch-lounging companion. Despite his love for food, Jaxson is committed to his new diet plan and is ready to embark on a weight loss journey with a loving family. Adopt Jaxson and let the laughter-filled, cuddle-packed adventures begin!❤️

We’re open for adoptions today from noon to 3 pm, and our Adoption Team is looking forward to introducing you to our cats, including Jaxson in Room 3. Please visit our website to learn all about adopting from HART, view a listing of available cats, and access our online adoption application: www.hartofme.org/adoption-information. You know when you just kinda need a day off to rest and recharge? This is one of those times.

In order for our Adoption Team volunteers to have a well-deserved day off, our shelter will be closed on Saturday, December 21, 2024. We appreciate your understanding, and look forward to seeing you when we resume our usual schedule on Sunday. Meantime, for information about our available cats and adopting from HART, please visit our website: www.hartofme.org/adoption-information.

Yes, this adorable guy is as sweet as he looks!

Joey is a sleek, 1-year-old kitty who transferred to HART from another shelter a few months ago. Laid-back and very affectionate, this is a cat who has a lot of love to give. Despite being blind, he is outgoing and very curious, and loves to explore. He also loves being held close and will give you lots of kisses and snuggles. Total sweetheart!

In addition to his impaired vision, Joey has several other significant health concerns, including a history of seizures and chronic diarrhea. He is currently on a prescription medication and a limited-ingredient duck diet to help with his GI symptoms. We will require that his adopter has an established relationship with a veterinarian, and the ability to both regularly monitor his health, administer medication, and provide a calm home environment that can safely accommodate a blind cat. Our Adoption Team will review his specific needs with you prior to adoption. Be sure to meet Joey in Room 1.

It’s Wednesday, and we will be open for adoptions this afternoon from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Please go to our website for more information about adopting from HART as well as to view a listing of our available cats and access our online adoption application: www.hartofme.org/adoption-information. To make the most of your visit, we ask that all prospective adopters have an approved application before arriving at the shelter.

When you visit, definitely stop by Room 2 and meet the lovely gal pictured here! This long haired, black and white beauty is Saturn, and she is 7 years old and ready to find her second chance at happiness. She loves receiving attention, and she’ll even come to you when called. Since Saturn had previously lived in a home with a single person, we feel that she would do okay as a solo cat. She would be well-suited to someone who wants to spend plenty of quality time with their cat, as this is a sweet kitty who would enjoy sleeping on your bed and helping you with your daily tasks. Sounds pretty purrfect to us!❤️

**Our Matching Gift Challenge was a Success...but we still have our Year-End goal to meet.**

The outpouring of generosity and enthusiasm in response to our Matching Gift Challenge has blown us away. Thank you to everyone who donated yesterday! As of this morning, our community not only met the $5,000 Matching Gift Challenge, but exceeded it by contributing $10,000 to HART within the last 24 hours!

And the good news is that all of these donations will be matched, dollar-for-dollar. That’s because our generous donor INCREASED the Matching Gift contribution to $10,000! In just 24 hours, $20,000 was raised for HART!

We are now $33,000 away from our $105,000 year-end goal.

But based our on communities' generosity over the last 24 hours, we know we can get there! Please click on the donate button on this post or donate on our website: https://homelessanimalrescueteamhartofmaine-bloom.kindful.com/?campaign=1334744
