Moments that change history
At 12 years old my dad took me to a horse show and my love of horses began. I wasted no time in finding myself a job as a groom in a horse barn. Watching the farrier at work planted a desire to become a farrier. The day after I tossed my high school graduation cap(summer of 1070) I was off to Oklahoma Horseshoeing school. Long days, exhaustion, and a loss of a hunk of flesh off the tip of a finger didn’t diminish my desire. Back home I went to work with a succession of veteran farriers and struck out on my own at about 23 years old. (That may have been a bit premature). Going to farrier clinics every chance I got has been an tremendous learning tool and a real lift to my career. Every time I came back with something that would help me work smarter and relate better to my clients. After 35 plus years of horseshoeing an opportunity came to sell farrier supplies. That’s a whole new world of new stuff to learn. Did I say technology? I’m an old school guy, I don’t do computers too well, but I’m learning and Esther tenaciously tackles our technology needs. I still shoe one day a week but Esther tells me no more. She’s not a farrier and we are committed to having a farrier answer the phone 98% of the time.(Except when I’ve got to see the dentist) Phone time with our farriers who call to order is my favorite. We often get to trouble shoot a hoof problem. It’s our passion to get every order on that UPS truck the day it comes in. We usually make it. A big thank you to all our farriers. It’s been a real privilege to work with you. Steve
