These Allegany County Animal Shelter sweet dogs represented the over 130 dogs and puppies and 250 cats and kittens in today's Downtown Cumberland Community Celebration parade today. Thank you to the shelter's board of directors and staff who let the dogs walk with them. If you're looking for a sweet furbaby to give you lots of love and kisses, you'll find them waiting for you at the shelter.

Hi there, I'm Gypsy!
I've been hanging out here at the shelter since August when I was found as a stray.

I’m a beautiful 2 year old brindle and white terrier. I'm not the biggest fan of cats, but I absolutely adore humans. I'm pretty clever, too - I can sit, give you my paw, and even catch treats in mid-air! I'm quite the entertainer. I'm a people's dog, through and through. I'm looking for a human who appreciates my skills and my love for them. If you're looking for a fun-loving, people-pleasing pooch, I'm your girl. Adopt me, and let's start our adventure together!

Hello, I'm Mary!
I am a 7 year old with a heart full of love and a mind full of smarts. I've got a sweet and friendly nature, and I'm always ready for a cuddle. I'm definitely a lap dog and I can't wait to find my special human to snuggle up with. I've mastered walking on a leash, so we can go on adventures together. I'm a quick learner and I'm always eager to please. I love to run a few zoomies around the yard and snif out the best spots. Oh, and I can't forget to mention my love for b***y scratches, they're the best! I promise to be the most loyal companion you could ask for. Royal has been at the shelter since July 15, 2024 and is still in search of her forever home.

Hi there! I'm Royal, your soon-to-be best friend.
I was scared when I first arrived here, but I've warmed up now. I'm still young (around 2 years old), so I've got a lot to learn. Like walking on a leash, for example. I can be a bit of a flight risk, but with your guidance, I'm sure I'll master it in no time. My days are filled with fun, energy, and play. I have a thing for toys. They're my favorite! I might be a bit bigger than your average lap dog, but I promise, I'm just as cuddly. I must confess, I'm not the best with other animals. I like to be the center of attention. I may be in a shelter now, but I'm dreaming of a home where I can be my playful, cuddly self. Will you be my forever friend?

Hi there, I'm Frida!
Life has a funny way of tossing curveballs, doesn't it? I'm back at the shelter, but it's not because of anything I did. I'm 4.5 yrs old, but I've got plenty of energy and love to give. I've hounded around town with several volunteers and love a good ride in the car. I love meeting new people and making friends. I shine at events, where I can show off my playful spirit and win hearts (I especially like kids). I’ve got a soft spot for cuddles and leisurely strolls and I’ve never turned down a good treat. I've got a lot of love to give and I'm hoping to find a family who will return it. Adopting me means gaining a loyal, loving companion who will cherish every moment spent with you.

Crunchwrap just wanted us to remind everyone he has been at the shelter since August 31st and is still patiently waiting for his forever home

I'm young, full of energy and love to play. My day starts with a friendly wag to everyone. I'm still learning the ropes of being a good boy, so I'll need a bit of help with puppy training. But don't worry, I'm a fast learner and eager to please. I'm also a big fan of treats, and I'm always gentle when taking them from you. Chester chooses to bask in the sunshine! This old fella has been at the shelter for two years. He is 9 years old, and he’s gotten used to being passed over for younger pups. Chester isn’t letting his circumstances get him down. Today, he got outside with one of his favorite volunteers, and we were able to get some photos that highlight his beautiful silver snout. Chester is getting better at being around cats, though a home without feline friends is still preferred, and he can do a meet and greet with other dogs in the home.
