🚨 Fosters Needed! 🚨
From September 28 – October 6, 2025, we’re looking for foster homes for our dogs while we complete important maintenance on one of our kennel rooms.

If you can open your home for just one week, you’ll be making a huge difference for our pups and helping the shelter continue to run smoothly. ❤️🐾

🐾 A Huge THANK YOU to Our Amazing Volunteers! 🐾

What an incredibly productive day at the shelter! 💛 From start to finish, our supporters came together to make a huge difference for our animals.

💉 A special shout-out to our amazing vet, Dr. Annillo, and her wonderful vet tech, Nakai, who completed so many spays and neuters (and provided other medical care), helping us keep our animals healthy and ready for their forever homes. Ashley Diehl deserves recognition, too, for her assistance in recovery, as well as general cat care.
🔧 Thank you to our friends, Alan and Marsha, who handled maintenance and cleaning projects and put together our new Kuranda beds (donated by FOACAS - thanks so much Mindy Farber). Our dogs are going to sleep in style and comfort!
🏈 A big cheer for members of the Allegany football team for moving a very heavy dog house, donated by the Bohns — what a huge help! Thank you, Bohns, for your generosity.
🐕 And of course, to all of our dog walkers who gave our pups exercise and love today. At one point, I saw 10 dogs getting walked!

You all make our shelter a better place, and we couldn’t do this without you. Thank you for giving your time, muscle, and heart to help our animals!

💛 Thank You, Howard’s Heroes – Again! 💛

We are still smiling from the incredible generosity of Howard’s Heroes, who donated $9,000 from this year’s Howard’s Half Marathon/5K Run Festival! 🐾

A very special thank you to Sharon Everett and Ray Hunt, as well as every sponsor, volunteer, organizer, and runner who made this event such a huge success. Your dedication and support mean the world to us, and to the animals who rely on events like this, to help pay for medical care.

🐾 We’re in Need of Cat & Kitten Food! 🐾

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who recently donated dog food — our pups are wagging their tails with full bellies thanks to you! 🐶❤️

Now our feline friends need a little help, too. We are currently in need of Purina Cat Chow and Purina Kitten Chow to keep our cats and kittens happy and healthy.

If you’d like to donate, you can drop off food directly at the shelter or have it shipped straight to us. Every bag makes a difference for the cats in our care. 🐱💕

🐾 Temporary (with the possibility of permanent) Kennel Positions Available 🐾

Allegany County Animal Shelter is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team in temporary kennel positions.

These roles are hands-on and vital to the daily care and well-being of the animals in our shelter.

👉 To ensure applicants fully understand the responsibilities, all interested individuals must first complete a 2-hour job shadow session. This allows you to see the work firsthand and decide if it’s the right fit for you.

If you love animals, don’t mind hard work, and want to make a difference, we’d love you to stop by and fill out an application in the main office.

We are absolutely blown away by the incredibly generous donation from Howard's Heroes! Their support means the world to us—and more importantly, to the animals who now have a brighter future because of their kindness. 💖

To every runner, walker, sponsor, and supporter who made this possible~ thank you. You are ALL heroes in our eyes!

The numbers have been crunched! This year 2025 Howard's Half Marathon/5K Run Festival will be donating $9,000 to the Allegany County Animal Shelter. 🐕🐈We'll be setting aside 332.56 for next year's race to help with permits and rent deposits.

We hope to have a survey comprised that will be sent out to our runners before the end of the month. Thank you all again for a wonderful race!🥰
