Update on Eryndor.

This tiny warrior showed up in the most unexpected place...inside the State Prison. He was basically a newborn when he was found, and North Branch Vet stepped in and quite literally saved his life. A little over a week ago they reached out to us for help, and… well, how were we supposed to say no to a baby fighting this hard to be here?

Eryndor has had a long, messy, traumatic start. One of his eyes has a severe ulcer, and once he’s big enough, he’ll need surgery to remove it. For now, our job is to keep that eye from rupturing and keep him as stable, warm, fed, and loved as possible. He’s got some rough (and very stinky) health challenges, but with the support of our vet, we’re doing everything in our power to give this boy a real chance.

He is gaining weight, which is amazing news, but he’s still far too thin. I take him to work with me every day so he gets his feedings on time, and I was up at 3am making sure he was warm, clean, and fed. He gets near-daily baths. He also broke our blow dryer.

If anyone has a spare blow dryer to donate, we’d be beyond grateful.

We’re also in need of:

Liquid KMR (we have the powdered kind, but liquid transports much easier)

A secure carrier with pockets as he travels with multiple little beds, syringes, bowls, and supplies

Dry cat food

Wet dog food

Blankets

Vetting funds (it’s flea season, y’all… send help)

Eryndor isn’t eating hard food yet. It’s going to be a while. He’s on vet-recommended critical nutrition since it’s higher calorie and easier on his little system.

Our Amazon wishlist is attached below.
Every donation, from food to blankets to a simple share, truly helps more than you know.

Thank you for loving these animals with us.
And welcome to the world, little Eryndor. You’ve got a whole community behind you now and an amazing vet to help guide us! 🧡

Hey everyone. Just checking in. We’re still here, still chugging along one day at a time. Honestly, it’s been a blur of animals, work, and trying to remember what “sleep” feels like. You know how it goes around here… something always needs fed, fixed, cleaned, or cuddled. But we’re hanging in there.

We are still in need of funds for vetting. We’ve got a few dogs and cats who need to get in for visits and follow-ups, and those bills add up fast. If you’re able to help, even a little, it goes straight to their care and means so much.

And now... meet our newest little nugget: Eryndor (named after a main character in a novel I am writing). He is about 4 weeks old, and has some tummy troubles.

He was found at the state prison and taken to our vet, who called us. And of course we said yes. How could we not? So… hello again, late-night feedings. He’s got a few health quirks we’re working through, but my goodness, he is a sweetheart.

If you are able to donate to help with much needed vet appointments, we would be forever thankful!

It's ! 🌬️❄️🏠🌡️🐱 Size and placement of the door hole are critical to a cat shelter's efficiency and safety. How big? Small enough to minimize heat loss, but big enough for your largest colony cat to come and go comfortably. Ideal placement minimizes both drafts and heat loss.

A "big enough" cat door looks pretty small! But a cat can flex his entire body through a hole as big as his head, and that's the secret to making a perfectly sized shelter door. We tested this with the help of Thor, a 13-pound tom. A 6-inch round hole was too roomy, and a 5-inch round hole was a bit tight. But Thor says a 5½-inch round hole is ju-ust right. If you want a square door, the ideal size is 5x5 inches. Whatever shape you make it, the door's overall size should be 24–25 square inches. And a cat-sized door doesn't only conserve heat, it's also a safety feature that keeps larger animals out.

Place the door neither too high nor too low, and off to one side. Ideal vertical placement is slightly below the middle of the shelter wall height. Remember: Heat rises, so don't make the door so high that it vents out all the warm air. But don't make it so low that the straw bedding leaks out and rain splashes in.

Ideal horizontal placement for the door is on one end of the longer side. This gives cats a cozy corner away from the direct draft of cold air from the door. And it's a safe haven, out of reach of any predators that may come sniffing around.

Our new boy Harvey (aka Derpy) who I found in a tote on the porch a few days ago, had his vet check today, and he’s all clear! 💚
Healthy, vaccinated, already neutered, and his teeth are good.

He’s a big sweetheart who clearly used to be someone’s house cat , all head boops and purrs the second you say hello. Clearly he was loved at some point.

He will only go to a home who will keep him inside. This is the life he has had, and he is most certainly a people cat.

Thank you to those who have donated and shared so we could help this beautiful baby!

Thank you to everyone who’s been donating, sharing, and standing beside us. We love and appreciate you all more than we can tell you.

We know that two cats being dumped on our porch doesn’t compare to what many rescues and shelters are facing right now. Some are drowning in intakes or tackling full cat colonies and saving hoarded animals. But please remember, we’re just a tiny organization with no staff or outside help. It’s Derek and me. That’s it.

This is exactly why intake was closed and we shifted into sanctuary mode as it was the responsible thing to do.

I’m currently working three paying jobs, seven days a week, on top of the animals’ daily care. Mornings start with feeding and cleaning, and the same happens again when I get home. It doesn’t stop, and neither do we. And, we also have to squeeze in vetting.

We know the economy has hit everyone hard. We feel it too. We don’t get grants; we’re too small to even qualify (and yes, we’ve tried). We’ve made plans and had to change them again and again. As long as we stay where we are, we can’t grow or build the team we need. So for now, we’ll keep doing what we can with what we have.

Until the day comes when we can move, or close for good, we’ll keep showing up, doing what we can.

Thank you for believing in us. Every share, every kind word, every small donation keeps this little sanctuary alive. 💚🐾

Sharing for a supporter: The Heart of the Earth Sanctuary and Rescue, Inc has had TWO cats abandoned in totes at their door this week. Money was already extremely tight without 2 extra animals to feed and vet. We’re asking for donations to help with their care.

Woke up this morning to another cat in a tote on the front porch. Same holes in the tote as the last cat. This one is mostly white with some dark spots. 100% sure they came from the same person. We are fairly sure we know who it is that dumped them. I'll know for sure later today. If that is the case, they are def better off with us. It's not to say these are bad people. They are just in am unfortunate place in life atm. Again, we are in desperate need of food...kitten and adult (wet and dry), kitty litter and funds for vetting. THANKS to everyone who has donated and sent food to us and have shared our posts! Everything make a difference.

Friends, I came home from my second job this evening to find a tote on my front porch WITH A CAT IN IT. We have cameras with night vision. It wasn't there when I got home from my first job at 230. So this happened between 330 and 8. We did not plan for another cat. I am thankful that you didn't dump him/her in the woods someplace. But closed intake mean just that. Now we have an extra mouth to feed that we didn't plan for. Thankfully we had an open cage to put him/her in. Very well taken care of. Tomorrow I'm gonna see of the cameras picked up anything. But in the mean time, we are going to need more funds if anyone can donate, it would be appreciated. I will also post a photo of the tote and the cat incase anyone recognizes it.

Friends, we really need your help right now.
The donations we’ve received are deeply appreciated, truly. But they aren’t enough to vet the Littles or meet the ongoing needs of the animals already depending on us. We do not have disposable donations and many times pay out of our own pockets. I realize we are a tiny organization compared to some, but our hearts are big.

We usually don’t take in kittens anymore. Our hands and hearts are full as it is. But when this litter showed up, we couldn’t risk them dying in a pound. So here we are.

Little Bramble is fighting through some health issues, and we’re doing everything possible to pull him through. Meanwhile, Diddy is on three different heart medications every month, and that’s just one example of the constant care these animals need to stay alive and well.

Every month, we’re juggling:
🐾 Cat and kitten food (wet and dry)
🐾 Dog food
🐾 Bird food (we are out atm)
🐾 Kitty litter (we’re out right now)
🐾 Flea and worming treatments
🐾 Grooming when needed (We need new clippers).
🐾 Vet visits, meds, and the occasional surgery

It adds up faster than we can keep up.

If you can help with funds, food, litter, or even just sharing this post. It makes an immediate difference. Every donation goes directly to the animals in our care. We use our personal funds for everything else.

💚 It's simple. We want to give every animal that crosses our path a safe place, a full belly, and a chance to heal, body and soul.
