Today we are introducing you to the five cats and five dogs who have spent the longest time with us here at Furkids. All of these animals came to us from no fault of their own, and some have waited patiently for over a decade to find their people. 💔

We are gearing up for the holiday season here at Furkids! We've had a super busy week - let's recap together! ✨

💉 We held our monthly clinic on Saturday at our headquarters, providing affordable vet care for pet owners in our community. This year alone we have served over 1,200 animals at our monthly clinics!
🎄 We started Christmas decorating at our headquarters! We'll be putting the final touches up next week.
🧘‍♀️ Puppy Yoga was so much fun! Thank you to our instructor Jennifer for guiding us!
🦃 We celebrated Thanksgiving with our staff. So grateful for our amazing team.
📆 The Chamber of Commerce held their retreat at Shiloh Gardens on Friday!

There are so many exciting things happening this time of year! We have lots happening next week too - stay tuned to see all that's happening at Furkids Animal Rescue & Shelters. 🧡

This past Monday, a firefighter named Corey from the Forsyth County Fire Department showed up to our door with a box. When we looked inside the box, there was a teeny tiny kitten and a piece of sausage. "Is that sausage?", we asked. He laughed and replied "Yes, that was all we had at the fire department that we thought he could eat". How sweet!

Apparently, the little kitten was rescued by the fire department after it had fallen ten feet down a storm drain at a local high school. Our medical team got to work and discovered the kitten is suffering from fleas and a broken hind leg.

They're working to get this little fella to where he needs to be before he's ready to take on the next adventure - finding a home! We have affectionately named the kitten Corey after the selfless firefighter who climbed down the drain to save him.

We want to say a big thank you to Corey and all of the incredibly selfless men and women over at the Forsyth County Fire Department, and for first responders everywhere who take time to help the tiniest creatures in need. Thank you for saving this sweet little baby, we'll take it from here. 🐱🧡

Everyone give a warm welcome to the newest arrivals at our dog shelter! 🐶💕 We've spent the last few weeks getting to know these beautiful pups and we can't wait to find them their new home for the holidays!

All of these dogs will be spayed or neutered, full vetted with age appropriate vaccinations, and microchipped before they are adopted out.

When a kind-hearted citizen spotted this stray cat in awful condition, she couldn't look the other way. His eye was badly infected, and he wasn't bearing weight on his front leg.

She brought this brave cat, now named Captain, to Furkids and our medical team immediately jumped into action, treating his pain and crafting a plan to give him the best chance at recovery. Captain is safe with us, but his healing journey is far from over.

We are sending Captain for x-rays to verify the severity of his injury, but he will likely need two major surgeries: an enucleation (removal) of his damaged eye, and an amputation of his front leg. These procedures, while life-saving, are expensive. But we know that Captain is a fighter and we couldn't turn our backs on him.

We are determined to give Captain the care he needs, but we need your help. This is a busy and hectic time of year for us all, but at Furkids, our mission never slows down. Our team works day and night to provide hope and healing to animals just like Captain. Your generosity makes it all possible.

Razzles is about to dazzle her way right into your heart ✨ This six year old girl has become a staff and volunteer favorite in the short month she's been with us, and for good reason!

Razzles is one of the most gentle dogs we have ever met. We rescued her from a shelter in Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton. Despite all she has been through, she remains a trusting pup full of hope and love. 💖

This girl is good with other dogs and short-term fosters have told us she is a very good girl about going to the bathroom outside. She is about 51 pounds, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations. 🐾

Our monthly low-cost vaccine and microchip clinic is being held this Saturday, November 23rd from 10am-3pm. 💉 Thanks to Petco Love and their commitment to one million free vaccines for pets in need, the first 150 cats will receive a free FVRCP and the first 150 dogs will receive a free DHPP, while supplies last.

Walk-ins are welcomed, appointments recommended. Please email [email protected] to reserve your spot!

Welcome to week six of your Weekly Scenes at Furkids! ✨🐾 We're excited to show you what we have been up to this week.

🚌 On Monday, we had another TransFUR, with 52 kittens making the long journey from Georgia to new loving homes in Vermont.

💙 Quite a few Furkids found their forever homes this week, and we had a wonderful time at all of our adoption events this weekend!

👤 We welcomed several groups to our headquarters for a day of volunteering! Thank you to the folks at Ernst and Young, Emory University, and Northside Hospital for coming to volunteer with us.

🎄 The holiday season is here! Shiloh Gardens hosted the first holiday party of the season on Friday.

⭐ Folks from the Shakespeare Tavern came by to interview some of our puppies in preparation of their Hamlet show, and spread the word about all the exciting things happening at Furkids!

🐱 We recognized the achievements of our 20+ member adoption team that strives daily to transform the lives of our felines and those who welcome them into their home.

This guy has a peanut butter personality - smooth, sweet, and totally irresistible! Meet Walnut 🤎

This handsome, nutty guy has made huge strides since he has arrived at Furkids. When he rolls over for belly rubs and looks at you with those soulful eyes, your heart is sure to crack wide open! Walnut is eager to learn new tricks like place, down, and sit, especially if there's a treat involved. 😉

This guy is a backyard zoomie master and we think he would do good with a doggie friend with medium energy. Walnut is a little clumsy, so we think he would do best in a home without small children. Walnut needs a seasoned owner who can keep up with his training!

Walnut is about a year old, 35 pounds, neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations. Nora and Hazel are the most spunky sibling duo you'll see this week! 🐱🐱

These one year old tortico siblings came to us after their owner couldn't care for them anymore. We are so glad we crossed paths with these two, they are the most frisky, fun kitties we have ever met. They're experts at entertaining, always playing with one another like true sisters! 💕

Nora and Hazel also have a calm, cuddly side that shows when they're near people they love - sitting in laps and receiving a good face rub are two things these girls enjoy the most in life. If you are looking for two gorgeous girls who can fill the void in a quiet home, look no further.

November is National Senior Pet Awareness Month, and this past week, we opened our doors to five senior dogs and five senior cats who were in desperate need of a second chance. Some came to us as owner surrenders, while others were saved from euthanasia lists at overcrowded shelters, where their age placed them at the top of the list despite their desire to keep living and loving.

These seniors are understandably scared and confused about why they're in a new place with unfamiliar faces. They've been through so much, but here at Furkids, they are safe and loved.

Our medical team is already getting to work assessing their individual needs. Some require medical treatments for upper respiratory infections, and every animal will be fully vetted, fixed if they aren't already, and cared for until they find a family they deserve. But providing this care is not cheap, and we need your help to make sure these precious, gentle souls know love in their golden years.

Senior animals are often overlooked, their lives cut short simply because they are older. But Furkids believes every dog and cat deserves a warm bed, a full belly, and a family that loves them - no matter their age. We talk a lot about how awesome FIV+ cats are, and just how sweet senior cats can be.. and today we are introducing you to some of our senior FIV+ kitties who have been waiting so patiently to be adopted. 🫶

FIV stands for feline immunodeficiency virus. Here at Furkids, we say that FIV is no big deal! 🧡🐱 It just means that they have a slightly depressed immune system, so be a little more proactive if your cat gets a cold or gets sick. FIV+ cats can live with non-FIV+ cats with no problem, and can live long lives!

All of these cats are located at the Furkids Fort and Michele Felker Cat Shelter (5235 Union Hill Road). 🐾 Adoption fees are waived for our FIV+ & senior cats!
