Every day is full of suprises, and today was no different thanks to Sandy our leopard tortoise.
Come with me as we extract a clutch of surprise tortoise eggs from a nest hole one of our female tortoises made.

Baby yellowtail cribos are hatching!! This never gets old
We have a new species on display!! Our beautiful pair of Cyclura Lewisi hybrids celebrated their first day of outdoor summer living! This species is commonly know as the blue cayman iguana. In the wild pure blue cayman iguanas are nearly extinct. Preditation along with habitat loss and the introduction of invasive species like domestic cats, rats, and other iguana species played a heavy roll in the near extinction of the blue cayman iguana. In order to save the species conservationists bread them with a very genetically similar iguana commonly known as the Cuban rock iguana. Our pair is believed to be over 70% blue Cayman genetics thanks to years of selective breeding. Come check out this rare lizard while they are on display this summer!
These birds know how to cool down on a hot day!

Wally out for a walk, and a potential meal
Those of you who have visited OBX Lizard Land have probably met Wally the Argentine tegu. The five years of owning this lizard have been full of fun moments. He came to us as rescue at the age of 3. Born august of 2014
This is a rare sight!
Giant Madagascar day geckos are not the type of lizard you typically handle being that they are extremely fast and very delicate.
This six year old lizard has āescapedā many times over the years while doing cage maintenance. In the beginning it was very hard to retrieve him but over the past two years he has become more trusting of me. Today we made a lot of progress. It appears our Ackie monitor wanted in on the action as well š
Their palms and underside of the fingers are covered with microscopic hairs that act like velcro on a surface. More recent studies show something more complex going on with these microscopic hairs. When the microscopic hairs come in contact with a surface they create static electricity. When a gecko climbs up a surface, electrons leave its feet, creating a positively charged gecko and a negatively charged surface.

The Uromastyx got very lucky today after a patch of dandelions popped up on the property. These little vegetarians make great reptile pets because everything they need in their diet can be picked right from the garden (if pesticide/herbicide free) or bought at the grocery store. #uromastyx #lizard #lizardlover #animals #animallover #reptiles #vegitarian #flowers #garden #reptilekeeper #obx #outerbanks #lizardland

Tina got to come inside for a little while this week and got busy rearranging the building. When we tell our guests Sulcata tortoises arenāt inside pets, we wholeheartedly mean it.
