Leopard Tortoises are hatching!

Did you know that when tortoises first hatch from their eggs, their shells are soft?! In fact, these tortoises are born nearly folded in half due to them conforming to the shape of their egg. Their soft shells allow them to slowly stretch and flatten to their permanent position after they emerge from their egg. Over the course of several years, their shells will fully harder as they develop.

Stop in and see these cuties and all of their siblings on display Wednesday-Sunday from 11:00-6:00.

Moroccan uromastyx babies are loading! This is our first clutch of the year to go into the incubator and this will be the first Moroccan uromastyx babies that we have produced since 2023. We expect this clutch to hatch around April and we are expecting a second Moroccan clutch to be laid any day now.

We don’t usually get photos of our male and female golden Uromastyx, U. dispar dispar. Yesterday we were showing them, and their babies off, and we got a chance to snap a quick photo. It is super easy to tell who is who in adult uros of almost all species, and it is especially with this pair. The males are almost always more vibrant and have color and pattern on their chests, while females are more muted or dull in color, and typically have cream colored or neutral bellies.
We still have 2 perfect babies from this pair looking for new zip codes.

It’s that time of year again where I ask you to help me wish the Lizard Man himself, Paul, a happy birthday and another year around the sun.

Since last year this man has coordinated, and built a new Lizard Land from scratch. This is by no means an exaggeration. From the beginning Paul has learned how to be a general contractor, planner, architect, electrician, carpenter, mason, and many more trades and titles that are impossible to list here. If that wasn’t enough, he also became a father and learned how to raise a little girl while also running and maintaining the day to day at Lizard Land.

I hope you will join me in wishing Paul a very happy birthday and another year of adventure!

Have you seen this guy? This is our male golden Uromastyx, U. dispar dispar, and one of his three offspring from 2024!
These lizards are by far one of our favorite species to work with because of their calm demeanor, bright colors, and herbivorous diet. Uromastyx have been gaining popularity in the pet trade over the last few years and are becoming a more common sight in pet stores. While wild caught Uromastyx are still more common to see than captive born babies, numbers are on the rise and we are starting to see more keepers having success with breeding. We have been lucky to have several diverse groups of breeding Uromastyx species here at Lizard Land including Goldens, Moroccans, Ornates, Saharans, Egyptians, and Ocellated and are anticipating another busy year full of hatchlings.
Both of these guys are on display and able to be seen (separately) and the babies are looking for new homes!
