Introducing Clam Chowder! Aka Worm, aka Darcy, aka Clamual - you get the idea, he's earned a lot of nicknames from his adoring fans. Clams is a six month black and white kitten found orphaned at just a few days old. He has been bottle raised and fostered since then as he grew and healed from his battle wounds (which has left him with some pretty cute little white floof patches on his tiny head). He is a perfect lap cat and a total snuggle bug that wants nothing more than to be held and coddled like a baby. His ragdoll personality and cute playful kitten qualities would make him the perfect addition to any home. He is up for adoption with a small rehoming fee to cover his cryptorchid surgery (yeah, hes extra special in every way) and can go home to you as early as November 23rd. Interested? Introducing Bacon!
This funky little two year old male Guinea pig is looking for his forever humans. If you have room in your life for him please send us a message.
Bacon came from a neglectful situation where he was kept without consistent access to food or water and was in a dirty cage. He quickly bounced back and is now a happy, healthy, obnoxious little piggie. He just needs a place to call his own!
He’s currently eating Oxbow pellets, Timothy hay, fresh salads and occasional fruit as a treat. He’s a great eater and wheeks for his treats as soon as he hears that fridge door open. He loves to run and if you give him free time outside of the cage he likes to hang around peoples feet and give them sweet kisses.
He comes with an 8 square foot cage, water and food dishes, two hides, a stone (for his nails), and his pellets. He has no adoption fee for him or his supplies, the only requirement is that you pass our adoption survey as usual!
He is located in York, Pennsylvania and his foster parents can travel up to two hours away to get him to his new family.

It’s the time of year where we struggle the most. We have received no donations in quite a while. We know the holidays can be rough for people and that many of you might not have the spare funds to gift to rescues right now. But we could really use the help, in any way you’re able! We do everything out of pocket and rely heavily on the donations of our adopters and fellow rat lovers. Every little bit helps - even if you can only spare $1, that’s one more dollar that can help us feed all these hungry mouths. Non-monetary donations are also really needed! Food, bedding, fleece, litter, etc. And rats are not the only thing we rescue - reptile, rabbit, fish, and especially cat/kitten supplies are very welcome. If you’re unable to give, sharing our page and posts or recommending us to friends and family is the next best thing. Thank you everyone for your support, whichever way you’re able to do so ❤️

Happy ! We'll admit: this week's feature isn't technically food. However, in keeping with the theme of raising awareness about dangerous products marketed towards rabbits, we'd like to address a major culprit: cedar bedding.

Though appealing due to its natural fragrance, that cedar smell is actually what makes these types of litter so dangerous. Known as phenols, the aromatic chemical compounds found in cedar wood can cause organ failure over time.

The lesson? If your bunny is currently using cedar shavings, please switch immediately and consult a vet especially if they experience any concerning behaviors such as lethargy or exhibit symptoms of GI stasis, which can be triggered by underlying health issues.

Cats are carnivores, and while they can survive on dry kibble, it is taxing to their bodies. Cats don’t process carbohydrates effectively and do not drink enough water to make up for the lack of moisture in dry food. As a veterinarian, I see a lot of
• Diabetes
• Kidney Disease
• Heart Disease
• Constipation
• Urinary Issues

Of course if kibble is the only option, it is better than nothing, but cats really need a high meat, high moisture diet.

“But my cat will only eat kibble!”

This is a common problem. I’ve had good luck using freeze dried raw during transitions. Vital Essentials is my favorite.

Thinking of adopting a kitten? Consider adopting two together!

If you have no other cats at home, consider adopting a pair of kittens instead of a single animal. Littermates tend to be especially compatible and will have each other to keep company and grow old with. Adopting two kittens that are the same age is preferable than adding another kitten or adult in the future because they will be maturing and adjusting to their new home together. If you think you'll want two cats in the future anyway, consider committing to two now so that introducing a new kitten to an existing cat in a household is not a potential problem in the future.

Your local rescue or shelter can help you decide which option is best for you and your household. They'll also know each kitten's personality and can recommend which would be compatible. Rely on them when looking for you new best friend(s)!
