The next trainer we will spotlight on is Lt. Brady Branham from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Most of us who know Brady call him "LT"! LT has been with the the for 17 years. He currently handles a K9 and supervises the Department's K9 Unit which consist of 10 teams spread across the state. Lt. Branham has trained retrievers for hunting purposes for over 25 years. He has been focusing on training police working dogs for the last seven years. Lt. Branham primarily trains and works with sporting breed dogs but has had the opportunity to train Shepherds, Malinois, Bloodhounds and even Bulldogs.

In the canine conservation world, patrol dogs are fully trained without apprehension work. Their training efforts focus on detection utilizing wildlife as the target odors. Some of the odors K9 teams are trained to detect are deer and bear. "LT" has been a trainer with for the last 3 years. Lt. Branham and took it upon themselves to organize the 2024 Spring Seminar- and it was one of the best seminars our K9 teams have attended! We look forward to seeing what Lt. Branham does next!

This weekend we paid tribute to Brad Smith of SKIDDS/ CATS Tactical Training. Brad was a legend in the K9 industry, and we were blessed to be his friend. Ken taught with Brad for many years and if you ever attended a HITS K9 Training conference, you could always find our booths next to each other. Many people travelled from afar to honor this man, share stories, memories, and laughs amidst the tears. Rest easy Mr. Chairman… we miss you.

Looking forward to great things from these new teams! It was a pleasure to work with Blaine County Sheriff Idaho again!

INTRODUCING: The Blaine County Sheriff's Office is excited to introduce our new K9 Team to help combat drug trafficking and activity throughout the valley. Sgt. Ruckle and Enzo, a 1-year-old male Springer Spaniel rescue a family gave up out of Boise, and Corporal Madrid and Dakota, a two-year-old female black Labrador rescued from a hunter out of Seattle. Both K9 units are certified to detect ma*****na, methamphetamine, co***ne, he**in, and fentanyl. Our K9 team is among only 5 teams in Idaho certified for fentanyl detection.

“Fentanyl use and trafficking is a high priority in my administration. We have been advised by the DEA and U.S. Attorney’s Office a rise is probable. We are doing everything possible in this fight,” said Sheriff Harkins.

Our K9 team has just completed a 160-hour POST-K9 Handler certification course and is currently attending a one-week Idaho Police Canine Association Conference. In addition to drug detection, the K9 Teams will be utilized for public education to promote community awareness and demonstrate the Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to reducing and preventing drug use in Blaine County. The BCSO K9 Team will be collaborating with and assisting all law enforcement agencies in the county with drug enforcement.

Nice work, Red!!

K9 Red has been with our department for 6 months now! K9 Red and Officer Knight completed a 160 hour 4 week long course in Washington in June with Pacific Coast K9 . In their time since returning from their training, K9 Red has been deployed 78 times, resulting in 14 arrests and 25 positive alerts. K9 Red has aided in the seizure of 3.5 ounces of Ma*****na along with multiple items with residue, 4.1 grams Methamphetamine along with multiple smoking devices with residue and 2 grams of Fentanyl. Officer Knight and Red make a huge contribution to drug investigations and have assisted outside agencies with their own drug investigations as well. K9 Red maintains training by attending biweekly trainings alongside the Casper Police Department's K9 team and other local K9 teams.

K9 Red has been an immeasurable asset to the citizens of Douglas and the Douglas Police Department.

Boundary County Sheriff’s K9 team, Buddy and Sgt. Valenzuela once again recertified with their Idaho K9 drug dog certification.
Buddy is a 4 1/2-year-old male yellow lab. He has been with the Boundary County Sheriff's Office since June 2020. Buddy is a single purpose narcotics K9. He loves to work and is very friendly. Having a K9 team has been a great asset to law enforcement in our area.
