Mama is the best person. She came home and spent almost three hours digging out the water for the piggies. Our recent blizzard, yesterday, was full of wet heavy snow. Then it froze over night and is now a solid pice of ice. But nothing can stop mom from getting the babies cared for.

We spent the morning of this beautiful day cleaning up The Cabin, adding fresh straw and getting all our water tanks filled up after everything froze this week. Then made a trip to BomgaarsSupply. But dad finished the day by giving some rubs to the bestest boy we have, Mr. Hank. He's such a good boy.

For those of you questioning our abilities the other day about heating our buildings for the pigren to have warmth, you're more then welcomed to help cover our electric bill. This is caused because we have so many tank heaters running this time of the year and we personally pay for this. For 5 or 6 months out of the year, our bill is between $700 and $900. That's just for the electrical. Then on top of that, we have propane to heat the feed shed, the well house and the cabin, where the indoor pigs live. We do everything we can for our animals and don't like to ask for help besides for feed cost. However, we always appreciate any of the donations that come in every month.

EDIT: Just to clarify, all our pigs get straw for bedding, we ensure that we add more on colder stretches. (see pictures of the straw in their building)Our buildings are not insulated so would defeat the purpose of a heater. He may have passed due to old age or his poor heart gave out, excuse my husband for thinking it was because of the cold.

Some heartbreaking news from Betsy's Barn Pig Rescue. We went out to do chores this morning and unfortunately found that Mr. Waddles had passed overnight. We aren't sure what may have happened but we are assuming that this blistering cold may have had something to do with it.

Caught the pigren all snuggled up to brave this cold, damp wind. We are exhausted from the wind switching directions and always bringing cooler temperatures. Spring cannot come soon enough.

Didn't capture enough photos today to show the absolute BEAUTIFUL day we had. It was 50+ degrees, no wind and mostly sunny. Mom and dad spent the day cleaning out barns, adding new straw bedding and cleaning up pens. Power washing equipment and filling the corn totes. We couldn't have asked for a better February 2nd.

Zues is getting loving yesterday while Mama and Aunt Jenn are putting straw bedding. The temperatures are brutal all over and we wanted to make sure the babies are warm. Thank You, Mann!

We have officially ran out of feed again. Luckily our mill is working on it right away but had a hiccup with their machinery so it's on a bit of a wait. Hopefully tomorrow it can be done for pickup.

However, we need to immediately raise as much as possible to help cover the feed cost. We have been covering as much as we can from donations and personally paying on it but we are having issues doing that too. Our current electric bill was $779 plus $700 on feed every 3 weeks. We are now begging for help by either financial assistance or helping adopt out as many pigs as we can.

If you can help, please consider donations to either our PayPal account or Venmo.

Our Story

Betsy's Barn Pig Rescue is a 501c3 organization operating as a non profit organization specifically dedicated to promoting and supporting the rescue & care of mini pigs and other farm animals by providing the compassion, commitment and companionship they deserve. Like many others, one day at a local fair I bought a pot belly piglet because she was cute. She was feisty and did not want anything to do with human interaction, except for the dachshund, Brandi, who thought it was her baby. We named her Betsy. Everyday, was a new adventure with her learning, laughing, and loving. We soon decided we wanted to help out more so we decided to adopt. That’s when Bootsy and W***y came into our lives. And I guess you can say this is how we got started. Knowing the need for a place for unwanted animals, not just mini pigs, even though that is our main focus.

Our mission is to provide education to the public on humane treatment of animals, rehabilitate those that are neglected or abused, and re-home those that are adoptable. To provide a place of refuge for those animals in need.

We are always in need for volunteers to come and socialize with our residents, help with barn duties, and help with projects. If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out!
