Had a nice summer storm and shower come through tonight. Now that it's passed, it's absolutely beautiful outside and the humidity has gone down.

Also dad, decides to get an air purifier for the Cabin and we will see how well that does for cleaning up the air in there.

Dad spent a few hours out in the ridiculous heat to make sure everyone has fresh cool water to drink and to soak in. Thankfully we only have today before we start to cool down again because it is really warm in the sun.

Dad bought an extra TV to use as a computer monitor, turns out, they don't work very well for that. So instead, he put it in the basement animals room to allow them to watch Dog TV on YouTube all day and night. It is full of relaxing music and outdoor noises to keep Cookie, Jasmine and the pups calm all day.

He has one more to put somewhere and would like it in the Cabin but we need a way to clean all the dust out first and to keep the dust to a minimum. If anyone has any suggestions on how to keep the dust cleaned we are all ears.

We didn't get a chance to capture any recent photos and our memories are filled with sad memories of 3 years ago of our hell. It was a two week streak of absolute hell. We instead wanted to share a photo of Zues having a good time in the mud hole he made. Zues pretty much keeps to himself these days as he is afraid of everything. Even the turkey he shares the barn with.

The picture cannot do justice to the beauty of the moon tonight. It's got such a beautiful glow to it and the cool weather makes things feel like fall is here. We wouldn't trade this view we have for any beach house. A vacation maybe, but not permanently.

If you think your pigs need 24/7 attention, you're wrong. Betsy just want fed and some sunshine, sleep and a few snuggles.

The pigren had a babysitter over the weekend, since mama and dad went on a short getaway. Everyone got fresh straw, all the pens got cleaned and they all got freshly cleaned bowls. Yes, we do that too but Jake took care of it for.us. We cannot thank her enough for coming up to help.

Everyone is sound asleep, maybe not soundless though. Lots of snoring coming from this shed when dad checked.

It's already a warm one out today but that doesn't stop the pigs from wanting to graze. Only 2 days left of this unbearable heat and humidity and then back to the 70s.

Being it's so hot outside, not too many pigs are roaming around. However, Mr. Hank is always right near us. He has became our Rocket replacement as he is constantly waiting for us. Follows us everywhere and is always asking for a snack. He sure loves his daddy but really likes to grump at mama, but he still loves her.

Finally after almost 2 weeks, dad got the pen back together. We decided to make a few changes and make one large pen for Pua and her friends, along with Petunia and Sweat Pea. Now all eight of them are in one large pen. And Waylon is back on his own during the evening.

We said goodbye to one of our very first rescues. Pete came to us back in 2017 with his breeding partner, Priscilla, from a local backyard breeder. Pete wasn't very social with anyone due to the abuse he took from his former owner. Pete loved a few things, feeding time, grass grazing and sleeping with his friends. We never got over his fear of people but now Pete is with all his other friends watching over us. We noticed he was slowing down these past few weeks and this last heat wave really made things hard on him. He has survived two rounds of PRRVS and that is hard on them to begin with. We found him last night peacefully asleep in their shed and this morning we took him to be cremated so he too can sit on our mantel with everyone else.

It was such a beautiful evening to work some more on the two pens that were destroyed by our tree. Only a few more nights and we can get them back into their pens. And yes, our tree trunk is burning and will be for months.

Mom and dad spent the day trying to clean up the big mess. Had a wonderful neighbor stop by and pull the large trunk into the ditch for us so we can just burn it right there. It literally is too large to move down the road without making a large trench. So we will continue to keep burning a little at a time as we can. The remaining stump will also be burnt as we can. However Pua isn't happy that she can't be in her shed since there is not fence up yet so she is going to stuck in the mud. Did we mention, it was 95 degrees today with a heat index of well over 100. It needed done so we can get the babies back to their sheds.

Oh, and if you know of any sort of fan we can put in 8 sheds that doesn't require power. We need like 14 of them to help move some air in the sheds.

It's down, but not all cleaned up. The ol' tree put up quite a fight though even though it was rotten almost all the way. We will continue to clean up next week and get the fence repaired and new posted installed.

It's coming down as we speak. We will update later once it's done.

The Cabin pigs got a new friend to come stay with them. Sweetie you can see in the upper corner sleeping in the pool for some reason. Sweetie isn't much on interaction so hopefully being around other pigs will help her come out of her shell.

Update: We had a professional tree service come take a look. Of course with the tree being so large, it will take a crane to come in also, extra expense. To remove the whole tree will cost $3,000 or a bit more. Just to clean up the mess we have now is $1,650. But that doesn't mean that the tree will be safe from another wind storm. We have to make a decision tonight since he has the crane coming Friday. So we need to raise funds for this as we DO NOT have any available personally. Otherwise the tree will sit there until we can personally pay for this. It's just another blow to our motivation anymore to keep the rescue going.

Last night our horses, ponies, and donkeys got out.Thank God, a friend of ours was going down the gravel road and found them and called us. Today as you can see, we had a huge tree fall down. ๐Ÿ˜ขLuckily it did not hurt any of our animals ! ๐Ÿ™ However, the tree did take our fence line And itโ€™s too big that we canโ€™t cut it up ourselves so weโ€™re gonna have to have somebody come in and cut it up. Weโ€™ll probably end up taking the big tree as much as I hate not because I love how big it is and it gives the pigs shade in this corner, but to minimize the chance of the rest of the tree falling we have it removed. When it rains it pours.

Our Story

Betsy's Barn Pig Rescue is a 501c3 organization operating as a non profit organization specifically dedicated to promoting and supporting the rescue & care of mini pigs and other farm animals by providing the compassion, commitment and companionship they deserve. Like many others, one day at a local fair I bought a pot belly piglet because she was cute. She was feisty and did not want anything to do with human interaction, except for the dachshund, Brandi, who thought it was her baby. We named her Betsy. Everyday, was a new adventure with her learning, laughing, and loving. We soon decided we wanted to help out more so we decided to adopt. Thatโ€™s when Bootsy and W***y came into our lives. And I guess you can say this is how we got started. Knowing the need for a place for unwanted animals, not just mini pigs, even though that is our main focus.

Our mission is to provide education to the public on humane treatment of animals, rehabilitate those that are neglected or abused, and re-home those that are adoptable. To provide a place of refuge for those animals in need.

We are always in need for volunteers to come and socialize with our residents, help with barn duties, and help with projects. If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out!
