Sadie's litter is in progress! 5 babies so far! Whelping started at 9:20 am. I stayed home from work today because I caught the cold being passed around my house and like always, God knew what was needed and had His own plans 😍❤️🙌🏼🙏🏼. Please pray Sadie and pups weather this whelp issue-free! I keep telling her this is the last time she will go thru any of this 💞 she is the incredible momma she always is!!! Mommas are frequently so hyper-focused on their new babies that they are reluctant to attend to their own needs, including drinking, eating, and pottying. We have to make sure that all of those needs are met, and that means, bringing the water bowl and the food directly to our mommas regularly and encouraging them to eat or drink.

SURPRISE!!! Perdita went into labor somewhere around 4 to 5 am and we now have 7 beautiful babies!! 2 males and 5 females! People often wonder why we are psycho about visiting our property and then communicating repeatedly to clients about "NO FOUR ON THE FLOOR" until FULLY VACCINATED. Just saw a breeder friend that used a well known puppy nanny air-transport service and the nanny let the puppy go potty in the public dog relief area of the airport. The nanny immediately washed the puppies feet and undercarriage after sending a pic of the puppy pottying in the public potty spot and getting a scathing reprimand from the breeder, but alas, it was too late. Said puppy is now home and tested positive for PARVO. Y'ALL. This is 100% preventable by just following directions!! We are not crazy! Parvo is a killer and it's potentially on everyone's feet and the feet of other dogs. It lives in the soil FOR YEARS and cannot be sanitized in soil/organic material. Please listen -- NO FOUR ON THE FLOOR until fully vaccinated!!!!!! Photo sent by the puppy nanny, puppy blurred to protect the breeder/puppy/puppy owner.

Sometimes we get client push-back resulting from consulting with veterinarians who are not willing to explore the scientific research that points to delayed spaying/neutering. I love this article from the American Kennel Club that succinctly outlines the recent research and also revisits the original UC Davis study on Golden Retrievers. Very good information and completely supports our contractual requirement to wait until 12 months. I am saddened by the fact that for female Golden retrievers, they receive the greatest benefit from remaining intact, because I know that is just not tenable when looking at the average dog owner.
