PetGiving

PetGiving is an incredibly powerful tool, one that the shelter and rescue world has never had access to before. The organization was created to increase the number of animals who leave shelters alive every year and to solve the fundraising challenges that have always existed for rescues. Every day, open intake shelters take in more animals, and with limited space and funds, too many animals have only a few days to be reclaimed, adopted, fostered or rescued. But with PetGiving, communities are empowered to solve this challenge because the platform collects the donated funds while the animal is in the shelter. Without these funds, rescues shoulder the burden of fundraising for costs of care once the animal is out of the shelter and in their program. This is time consuming but without funding rescues simply don’t have the means to take in more animals. Pre-funding the costs of an animal’s care, which is a core purpose of PetGiving, helps rescues accept more at-risk animals. This is where the public contributions are critical; when the community steps in to provide donations, they help pre-fund the cost of an animals’ care. PetGiving’s approach is also unique because if an animal leaves the shelter through the shelter’s own foster program, the funds raised for that particular animal go back to the animal shelter. That means the community is also helping to fund shelter lifesaving programming.

PetGiving has created a simple call-to-action that anyone can utilize anywhere and any time they see an animal they feel moved to help save. It has truly never been easier to make an impact for homeless animals nationwide. PetGiving was inspired by the work of Day of the Dogs, a 501(c)(3) effort to save animals at the Harris County Animal Shelter (HCAS) in Houston, Tex. Since 2016, 93 percent of the 13,000+ HCAS dogs and cats profiled on their page have been saved. This program’s efficacy is what led PetGiving to the Petco Foundation Innovation Showdown where Founder Pam Siedler received funding of $175,000 to take the innovative platform to a national scale. It’s now ready and able for all interested shelters to utilize.
