Mississippi Coalition for Animal Protection

Mississippi Coalition for Animal Protection We also work with many other rescue partners both inside and outside of South Mississippi. We are ALL VOLUNTEERS!!!

We rescue, rehabilitate and rehome (when needed) animals in crisis, by balancing animal comfort and public safety by supporting local Law Enforcement, Red Cross and Non-Violence Center. MCAP was created to Rescue, Rehabilitate and Rehome animals in crisis (including housing pets experiencing domestic violence), ensure healthy pets through education, advocacy and affordable services (including TNR)

, inspire the community where the animal-human bond is celebrated and nurtured, maximizing live outcomes for animals, while balancing animal comfort and public safety by supporting local law enforcement & animal control officers in South Mississippi as well as assisting Emergency Operations Centers & the American Red Cross during natural disasters. We could not do any of this without our
wonderful volunteers, foster homes, and fabulous vet clinics that we work with. We have a PAYPAL ACCOUNT that we accept all donations through. Below are the ONLY OFFICAL MCAP payment links!! Please do not send anything to any personal accounts!!! PayPal:

🌸🐾 Gentle Reminder for Cat Owners! 🐾🌸

Did you know that lilies are extremely poisonous to our feline friends? Even having them in a separate room can put your cats in danger. The pollen from these beautiful flowers can become airborne, and when your cats groom themselves, they can inadvertently ingest harmful toxins, leading to poisoning or even kidney failure.

For the safety of your furry companions, it’s best to avoid having lilies in or around your home altogether. Let's keep our pets safe and healthy! 💖🐱

This is unacceptable!!!

On 02/14/2025, at approximately 12:10 PM, a local West Haven business notified the West Haven Police Department regarding a possible case of animal cruelty. West Haven Animal Control Officers were dispatched and arrived on the scene shortly after to investigate the complaint.

Upon reviewing the businesses surveillance footage, Animal Control Officers observed that earlier that morning, at 9:40 AM, a female was sitting in her vehicle with a dog in the front passenger seat. Between 9:40 AM and 9:50 AM, while parked in front of the business, the female was seen punching the dog approximately 36 times in various parts of its body, including the head, face, and stomach.

The female was later located and arrested. She was identified as 28-year-old Sherin Monachan, of Merrick, NY. The dog has since been seized by West Haven Animal Control and is being held in a safe location until a court ruling is made on the matter.

Monachan was formally charged with Cruelty to Animals and was held on bond at the West Haven Police Department.

What does a week in rescue look like? (sorry for the long post...)

Well, at this time, we have 12 dogs in foster homes in South Mississippi.

We have 41 in our sister rescue (that is closing down) in Central Tennessee where all the flooding that is currently happening. Small dogs and large dogs. * All Dog adoptions are reduced to $200 right now to help these dogs find great homes. * (Dogs being loaded to MS-cap.org)

We have 3 Medical Case cats in Foster Care:
Treasure (leg Amputation) Wink (eye Removal) & Sissy (Eye removal).

We have 1 Medical Case dog in foster care:
Cane is undergoing Heartworm Treatment which will cost another $700 on top of the $450 already spent to get him up to date on vaccinations, neutered, f***l, heartworm tested & treatment started.

Last week was super expensive.....

$325 on Cat Vaccinations for 1 of 3 required boosters for 25 cats
$800 on 3 Emergency Cat surgeries
$650 on Vaccinations and Combo tests & f***ls on cats
$400 in Spay/Neuter Bills for Fosters in care.
$280 in Medical checkups and antibiotics for fosters in care

This doesn't count the puppy pads (both disposable and reusable ones) used in foster homes. Endless amounts of gas transporting animals to and from vet clinics and meet-n-greets with adopters.

Rescue uses about 800lbs of dry food per week between cats and dogs in care. This also doesn't count wet food, treats & toys used on a daily basis.

We are building baskets of items to give to our pet owners that are in transition from the Domestic Violence Center to their own homes (with their pets) to get them off to a good start. For cat owners they would receive (Litter Box, Scoop, pet Bed, Litter, Toys and Food) and Dog Owners would receive baskets with (Leash, Collar, Harness, Food and Toys, Pet Bed). We want these people and pets to be successful in their new lives.

We are very Thankful for everyone that donates to us.
Everything is a Blessing. Without these small blessings, we wouldn't be able to help the public.

At this time, we have not received any grants yet, but we are working on them. We want to be able to help more people in our local area.

No one in our rescue receives a paycheck. We are one of the few ALL VOLUNTEER run rescues.

We spend $150 a month keeping our database (animal software) & website running. Which is much cheaper than others out there.

Simba was neutered today at Snips!!! He will lead a more healthy life & lessen his chances of major health problems that he could face in the future if he hadn't been neutered!!!

He is now ready (within this week) to be adopted to his own family!! He is a bit shy at first, but does warm up. He is not a fan of cats!! But he's a sucker for treats!!

Please inquire more at ms-cap.org
