This poor baby. As the sun edged toward the horizon, the sky darkening, a solemn figure roamed the streets. It was a tiny bulldog, missing clumps of fur with inflamed, dried patches strewn across his body. What was most alarming was the SEVERE re**al prolapse that sent shockwaves of pain through his fragile body.
A Good Samaritan found him like this, all alone.
By the time Harker was found, it was after hours for the local shelter. So the Good Samaritan hurried him to a nearby ER desperate to give him support. Fortunately, the ER contacted the shelter and they agreed to take him in. The shelter quickly contacted our rescue however in hopes we would be able to take him and continue his specialized care—how could we say no? We hurried over to get Harker, and just like that, he was in our arms. And we were going to do everything possible to transform his life.
Even with his internal organs being pr*****ed to the outside of his body, he still only wanted to give kisses and snuggle every person he came into contact with.
His personality and heart is something to admire and keep close to our hearts while keeping him here on earth - with your help!
We scheduled an appointment with our vet as soon as possible. There, Harker was thoroughly assessed and it was confirmed that he has Demodex mange, as well as an enlarged heart. This means that his heart has to pump extra hard, resulting in shortness of breath, fatigue, and more. A condition that is incurable, but can be managed through medications and diet to ensure his happiness and quality of life for however long we have him. This is all in addition to the most pressing of his issues the re**al prolapse, which requires urgent and intensive care - the possibility of multiple surgeries and a lengthy very strict and continuous long-term after care for a full recovery.
Harkey’s care estimate is a staggering $1,500. Of course, every penny is worth saving him and giving him a fresh start, but this is a hefty price with many other cases in our care. Harkey also needs treatment for intestinal parasites, diagnostics and care for the heart and his mange, including medications, soothing creams, medicated baths, and more. Despite everything, he is just so sweet and absolutely loves snuggles and kisses. He truly deserves a chance to live a normal, happy, healthy life, and sadly, we’re not certain his life started out that way.
