FAQ about the Downtown Dahlonega Christmas Carriage rides: FAQ
Dahlonega Carriage and Horse Rides is proud to have contributed, for over fourteen years, to Dahlonega being named by Southern Living magazine as the number one small town in the United States to visit during the Christmas season. We continue to enjoy providing visitors a magical experience with horse-drawn carriage rides around the town square among thousands of Christmas lights. We look forward to seeing all of you for the 2024 Christmas season as well! We hope to be part of making all your Christmas wishes come true!
Frequently asked questions regarding our carriage rides on the Dahlonega square:
1) Do you take reservations for carriage rides in town?
No. Due to high demand and volume of people, there is no way to track individuals or guarantee a specific time. ALL CARRIAGE RIDES ARE FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED.
• Can I book a private ride?
YES, however, NOT IN DOWNTOWN DAHLONEGA. We offer private carriage rides at our stables, Dahlonega Carriage and Horse Rides, approximately 15 minutes from Dahlonega. Call or contact us online for availability. 706-937-9395. https://dahlonegacarriageandhorsebackrides.com/
The cost is $65 plus tax & gratuity for a 30-minute ride. We can accommodate up to 4 adults or a family of 6. We are located at Forrest Hills Mountain Resort. https://forresthillsresort.com/
-------------------------------------------
2) What is the cost of a carriage ride?
$20 per adult, and $10 per child under 12 years of age (no charge for infants).
--------------------------------------------
3) What payment is accepted?
Cash only.
-------------------------------------------
4) When should I get in line to await a carriage ride?
Lines are shortest during daylight; once it gets darker and the Christmas lights become more visible, everyone starts lining up; therefore, it is wise to be in line prior to sunset to be ahead of crowds. Long lines equate to approximately a 45 minute to 1 ½ hour wait. Keep in mind lines typically move quickly when we have multiple carriages working.
--------------------------------------
5) When will the carriages be in town?
Beginning Friday, November 29th
--------------------------------------
6) What is the carriage schedule?
Our tentative schedule is as follows:
Saturday, Nov 30th - Sunday, Dec. 1st, 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Wednesday, Dec 4th – Sunday, Dec. 8th, 4:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Wednesday, Dec. 11th – Sunday, Dec. 15th, 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Wednesday, Dec. 18th – Tuesday, Dec. 30st, 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM ***(excluding Christmas day, the 25th).
*** Please note: We will not be in town on New Years Eve due to not putting the horses around all the fireworks.
• All days and times listed are tentative due to unforeseen weather conditions or other conditions/issues that may be out of our control.
------------------------------------
• Although lines close at 9:00 PM, we will do our best to accommodate all who were in line prior to closing. Generally, long lines mean carriages are in town later than the listed times, and short lines mean we shut down on time (or earlier) … it is all based on demand and weather conditions.
-----------------------------------
7) Where should I go to get in line?
Loading locations will be in front of 19 North Seafood Restaurant and Grateful Days (located on N Chestatee Street).
----------------------------------------
8 ) Is my dog allowed to ride on the carriage?
Typically, yes. Non-aggressive “lap” dogs are allowed. Non-aggressive larger dogs are allowed; however, if they take up seat space, owners will be required to pay the child cost of a ride ($10). For safety reasons, it is always a good idea to ask your carriage driver before bringing your pet onto the carriage. We are not liable if “Fido” decides to nip someone or jump off the carriage. Bringing your pet along is at your own risk.
----------------------------------------
9) How many people can get on the carriage?
We have different size carriages that will hold between 6 and 10 passengers.
--------------------------------------
10) Can I ride in the carriage of my choice?
All carriages are first come, first served, and loaded in the order in which they pull up to the curb. However, if you are willing to wait in line for a specific carriage, such as the Cinderella carriage, just ask the driver when he/she will be back around with it.
-------------------------------------
11) How long is the carriage ride?
Typically, rides last anywhere from 12-15 minutes, depending on how heavy the traffic is that we must merge with.
-------------------------------------
12) How will I know if the carriages will be in town on a specific day?
Because weather conditions and other issues could prevent us from being in town, we will post a schedule and information each day here on our FB web page. Although we attempt to post changes as early in the day as possible, check the page often for updates.
13) Where is Dahlonega Carriage and Horse Rides office and stables located?

Thursday 12/26: I hope all had a peaceful Christmas.
Good News/ Bad News. Good News is that we will be in town tonight giving carriage rides on the square. Bad News is that it's looking like Friday, Saturday and possibly Sunday night will be a wash out with the rain moving in. Right now it's might be tonight and Monday nights as our last two nights of this year. Sunday is iffy and we will not be coming in on New Years Eve (due to people playing with fireworks).
Expect us in around 4:30ish tonight... (Yes I know I've posted that we start at 4pm but for some reasons the drivers all seem to have problems being ready at that time, but my hats off to them as they do a great job once they are up and running).
Again we may only have two more nights this year for carriage rides so plan accordingly.

{ 6) What is the carriage schedule?
Our tentative schedule is as follows:

Thursday 12/26 through Monday, Dec. 30th, 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM ***

Merry Christmas Eve 12/24: So that we can make it home in time to prepare for Santa's arrival, we will be closing down the line for carriage rides early Tuesday night. All those in line by 7pm will not be turned away; we will accommodate you. The weather will be the best we have had recently tonight, and it looks like it will be the best that we will have for the next week as well. This weekend is looking a little rainy, so check my posts about which days we will be in town. As a reminder, we will not be in town on Christmas Day, 12/25.
Our last day for carriage rides in town this year will be Monday 12/30.
We will NOT be in town on New Years Eve. Horses and fireworks do not mix, and safety is our number one concern.

A note to our patrons:
We appreciate your business more than you know; however, we ask that you PLEASE be mindful of a few requests while waiting in line for your carriage ride:
• PLEASE do not block the entire sidewalk or store/restaurant entrances.
• PLEASE be patient while waiting as lines are often long.
• PLEASE be polite to others, especially to store/restaurant owners/employees asking that you not block their entrances to their customers.
• PLEASE do not litter; place trash in receptacles located near lines.
• PLEASE remember it is the Christmas season, and town can become very crowded with locals and tourists alike looking to enjoy the festivities. Enjoy the experience and the carriage ride in a beautiful location.
• Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
