TLC Humane Society, legally recognized as Dahlonega - Lumpkin County Humane Society, was founded in 1977 and is Dahlonega, GA's only no-kill shelter. We are a licensed non-profit 501(c)3 rescue organization and have both dogs and cats available for adoption. The shelter sits on 5.87 acres of beautiful property which includes 3 dog parks, walking trails, a small block house with 2 cat rooms, a kitt

en room, quarantine and isolation runs, plus The Ruff House with 6 dog runs and the 12 dog run Carver Canine Castle for large dogs. As a private, non-profit organization, we are not affiliated with the ASPCA, Humane Society of the United States or Associated Humane Societies. TLC is not a government agency and receives no funding from federal, state or local governments. Our ability to care for the community’s animals is supported solely by adoption fees, donations, grants, bequests, and fundraisers. All contributions are tax-deductible (our federal tax id number is 58-1829089). We do our best to save as many animals as we can, but that's only possible with the help of our community and people like you. We are especially happy to find new volunteers who share our commitment to the animals of Lumpkin County and surrounding North Georgia area. It’s hard to believe we’re still talking about how extraordinary Tonks is. 🥹💕😎

Tonks seems like a challenge at first—she’s a strong, independent spirit with a personality that requires patience and understanding. While she may take time to warm up, for the right person, the rewards are immeasurable. She’s a dog who needs someone willing to invest the time and effort to earn her trust, but once that bond is formed, she’ll be a fiercely loyal and deeply loving companion.

Everyone who knows her ADORES HER!

Tonks' adoption fee is sponsored so that covers her spay, microchip, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccines, Bordetella vaccine, heartworm test (Tonks is negative!), and she is up to date on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.

If you'd like to meet Tonks, feel free to fill out an adoption application at tlchs.org or you are welcome to make a match making appointment to come out and meet her. We are open Tuesday through Sunday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

Vanilla has found her forever home! 🎉🐾💕

It’s hard to believe this sweet girl has been with us for as long as she has, but we couldn’t be more thrilled that the perfect person has finally come along to give her the love and care she truly deserves. The bond between them is undeniable, and the photos say it all! Vanilla, we will miss you dearly, but our hearts are full knowing you’re exactly where you belong. Congratulations to both of you on this beautiful new chapter! 💖

Xena Has Been Adopted! 💕🐾💕

Get ready for a heartwarming story!

Our beautiful bridle baby, Xena, has finally found her forever home in the most unexpected way. While visiting Dahlonega, her new owner spotted Xena strolling downtown with her DDO (doggie day out volunteer), and it was love at first sight!

Even though she had only one day left in town, the immediate connection was undeniable—this was the dog she had been searching for! The challenge was that it was Saturday afternoon, and we wouldn’t have time for our usual thorough due diligence before she had to leave.

That’s when our amazing lead caregiver stepped in, generously offering to meet the new owner halfway—a three-hour drive on her day off—provided everything checked out perfectly. Thankfully, all went smoothly, and we were able to make this heartwarming connection happen sooner rather than later.

We couldn't be happier for Xena and her new family!

This incredible outcome was made possible by the collaboration of so many people who came together to ensure that this lovely dog—who just celebrated her one-year anniversary at our shelter—found the loving home she truly deserves. We couldn’t be happier for Xena and her new owner, and we're incredibly proud of our amazing staff and volunteers who made this possible!

We’re thrilled to share that Poppy has been adopted! 🚀🐾💝

From the moment we saw her with her new family, it was clear that her biggest challenge will be choosing which human to play with at any given moment. Poppy has been the darling of the shelter —every dog’s best friend and a beloved companion to many of us. While she will be greatly missed here, it’s heartwarming to see her in such a loving home where she’ll thrive.
