What an exciting day! Today the Food Bank of Iowa picked up their first order of Ground Beef and Chorizo from us. We were able to help out the Food Bank due to the Choose Iowa Food Purchasing Program for food banks! We are so excited about this partnership! Thank You to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and Choose Iowa for this pilot program! Also Thank You to the Story City Locker for helping us get it all processed and packaged!

ATTENTION!!! We are taking orders for Thanksgiving and Christmas Prime Ribs!! They will be bone-less but will have the bone wrapped with them so you can cook either way! We will ONLY have 16 available for each Holiday! They will be FRESH! We will pick up from the locker for Thanksgiving Tuesday, November 26 and for Christmas on Monday, December 23. They will range from 6-8 pounds on average. There may be a few bigger ones we will know more once dropped off at the locker. They will be $24.99 per pound this year.

It was weaning day on the farm! The cows will let you know and they were ready! The calves were moved to a pen next to the cows but can’t get with the cows. It will be loud for a few days as they will bawl but then all will be fine! Now back to Harvest!

It was Cow Chow time at the farm yesterday!! We have already chopped some corn silage, which is chopping the whole corn stalk and ear of corn. The cows LOVE corn silage! Yesterday we mowed and then chopped the sorghum Sudan grass. We plant as a second crop after our forage wheat. It is very sweet and high in carbohydrates which is good for energy for the cattle and good for the environment as it captures carbon. We will start feeding this in 30 days after it ferments in the bunker!
