QC has been quiet but we’ve been working on some BIG changes before our fall/winter litters!

Bonding is critical when owning a hedgehog! 🦔

“Bonding is a big part of hedgehog ownership. You will want to stick to a routine of handling your hedgie everyday. This can be as easy as letting him sleep in a hedgie bag on your lap, holding or supervising playtime in an escape-proof pen. Getting your hedgehog used to your scent is the most important part of bonding. Once he has associated your scent with safety and security, he will likely become more outgoing and be more comfortable with handling.”

Every couple of years, we have multiple adults looking for new homes from our program.
Why?
Because we believe that after our hedgehogs have worked, they deserve the best retired life ❤️ we only breed when there’s a need!
We also do this to diversify our lines in our program.
So without further ado-
We have several retiring hedgies looking to make their way way to their retired homes!

Maverick - she is 2 years old and full of s***k! She has been a fantastic momma hog and is looking to be the queen of the castle. She will be ready to leave the corner 4/16

Kryxis - is a 3 year old stud muffin who comes running when he hears his food bowl getting filled. He’s a little on the shy side but will come out and explore when he feels comfortable

Palermo - this 2 year old hunk is a couch potato and totally ok with it! He isn’t high maintenance, just needs a nice large cuddle sack and a lap to hang out on

Balcones - 2 year old beautiful guy! He hasn’t had the best luck with the ladies, orrrr maybe he doesn’t want luck with the ladies 😝 he’s shy for about 2 seconds and then ready to come out and see what’s going on in the world!

You will not be added to the waitlist based on your “word” or only an approved application

To be fair to everyone - waitlist spots are given to those in the order in which the depot is received, along with an approved application.
Exclusion of either of those will delay your wanted position on the waitlist.

We’ve gotten some questions on when our next litters will be and we’ve decided on which 2 girls we will be moving forward with!
Here at QC, we will only breed if there is a need!

VooDoo and Rhaenyra will be our next set of mamas!

We will be finalizing this week which of our boys they’ll be paired with but we will only breed these girls if we have at least 3-4 on our waitlist with deposits paid.

Please message us to secure a spot on our waitlisters. You can choose right away which mom you’d like a baby from, or you can sign up on a general waitlist to see who the girls will be paired with this week and choose once it’s announced.

Our last 2 baby girls of 2022 are ready to go to their quill-ever homes!
They’re only 11 weeks old 😍

Please do your research before getting a hedgehog or any pet, especially exotics.

We also have several young hedgehogs and adults that are needing homes as well!

They’re all ready to go to their new homes now. We do not “hold” our hedgehogs until Christmas as we will have other obligations during the upcoming holiday with family and friends.

A great educational post from our friends in the 101 group!

It’s that time of year again - COLD 🥶

⚠️‼️ I M P O R T A N T ‼️⚠️

This is so, SO important. Especially this time of year.

A heat source is REQUIRED when owning a hedgehog. Required. NOT OPTIONAL. It does not matter how hot your state is or what degree you keep your house at. Their enclosure temp is different than your household temp & should be regulated separately. You absolutely NEED a heat source.

I live in Arizona. My summers get to 120+ degrees. My girls each still have their own heat source hooked to a thermostat to regulate their enclosure temperatures separate from my house temperature or the temperature from outside. I don't know about you, but my girls thrive with their thermostat set to 80 degrees. This keeps it 79-80 degrees at all times for them. I do not prefer to sit in an 80 degree house 😅 so my AC can be run (& should be run) separately from theirs. Their temperatures should range between 75-80 degrees. At the BARE minimum. Anything below that can be FATAL.

& the most important part of the heat sources???

A THERMOSTAT.
(Not to be confused with a thermometer, which is also needed. But, a THERMOSTAT is incredibly important)

If you have ANY heating source for ANY animal you absolutely NEED a thermostat or you risk it getting WAY too hot & burning them or not working at all without you even realizing it which can lead to hibernation attempts. Your heat source plugs into the thermostat & then the thermostat plugs into the wall. It is like the thermostat in your house for your AC. You set the degree you want the enclosure to be at & it will flip the dome on to heat it to that temperature & then turn itself off once it gets to the correct temp, etc. This saves electricity as well since your dome won't ALWAYS be on.

It is ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED TO HAVE A THERMOSTAT WITH ANY HEAT SOURCE!!!! & EVERY hedgehog should have a heat source! Period.

Hedgehogs WITHOUT a heat source fall into the unsafe situation category in the group rules & may not get approved for posts.

If they get too cold, their health could rapidly decline, they could become wobbly & off balance, they could attempt hibernation, & worst case - they could succeed, which would be fatal.

A heating element is the NUMBER ONE thing you should have for your hedgehog above all else. It is THAT important for their well being. The most common set up would be a 10" dome with a ceramic base, a 100-150watt Ceramic Heat Emitter for the bulb, & like we mentioned, MOST IMPORTANTLY a thermostat to regulate the temperatures & prevent over heating.

Please, PLEASE do not continue to own your hedgehog without a heat source as it it detrimental to their health. Here are the links for what I use (there are upgraded thermostats to the one I have, but this is just what I use):

Here at The Corner, we like to expose babies to all sorts of sounds and smells. A lot of these experiences are supervised so we can ensure the safety of all of our hedgehogs while still getting them physical and mental exercise.
Today we introduced a new factor (but not unfamiliar) - a young pup!
Our youngest pack member, Luca, just turned 1 year old and it was time to expose him to the hedgie world! We’ve worked to socialize with all of our pups to be completely comfortable with our hedge-herd and vice versa!
Our babies are exposed to everything from dog barks/smells to vacuum cleaners to normal daily cleanings!
We also work TONS on touching feet, faces, ears, tummies, etc to make sure your babies are as calm as can be in any situation handed to them!

The Corner has been MIA this past week! We are happy to announce that we officially have our fall babies in the nest! After a crazy week - here is the long story made short ⭐️ Maverick has 5 growing babies and she is a great protective mama ⭐️ Lumi has 2 babies but unfortunately they did not make it ⭐️ Monroe had 5 babies but we lost 2 and she was not ready to be a mom again so we were left with trying to figure out how to save her last 3 While holding our breaths and praying hard, Lumi welcomed Monroe’s 3 babies into her nest and has successfully been fostering them ❤️ Though we did lose a few babies, we ended with the best possible outcome for the situation That being said, in a couple weeks, we will be opening our waitlist for these littles!
