Meet Koda! She is a Husky, about 3 months old, and weighing in at 22lbs currently.
Poor Koda was found hiding behind a Walmart dumpster.
A Good Samaritan brought her to ELPO, and she’s now in the best of care and getting the TLC she needs.
As you can see, her front leg has an angular limb deformity most likely due to an early injury as a puppy that was not addressed or treated properly. This is something she will live with for the rest of her life, but it will certainly not inhibit the love she has to give and the quality of life she’s destined for.
Apply to adopt Koda now.

She was shy and lacked trust upon arrival, but with all the much needed TLC from our volunteers, she’s opened up tremendously and continues to open up more and more. She was so frightful when she arrived that she’d not want to go outside for fear of not being let back in 💔So much has changed in a short period of time! Winnie continues to grow more trusting by the day. Apply to adopt now on our website 🧡

Saving animals from death row, like her cat Henry, is a big part of where our orphans come from. When you donate, your contribution goes directly to allowing us to expand our capacity, and care for even more animals.
East Lake Pet Orphanage’s plans for the future involve of expanding into a 3,200-square-foot building adjacent to the existing East Lake Veterinary Hospital and East Lake Cat Care Center. Plans are underway to grow the facility by adding four floors to house East Lake Pet Orphanage which will allow for greater capacity to care for even more rescued animals.
The building itself has been home to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). In support of our Veterans, the DAV will continues to operate on the first floor of the existing building which has already been converted into a community meeting space, adoption center, and continuing education + event space. Today, ELPO partners with veterans for volunteer and employment opportunities, adoption events and Red Cross blood drives at the facility.
Donations of any size will help us to save homeless pets and continue down the path of expansion to save even more!
With only 4 hours remaining, please consider making a contribution this North Texas Giving Day 🧡

Sarah Wood, long time East Lake supporter, speaks to her time with us (over a decade!), what’s different about volunteering at East Lake, how working with animals has nurtured her own mental health journey, and more!
Thank you for all you do, Sarah!
“… I realized it’s not a sad story. The animals are in a transitional time in their lives, just like people go through tough times when things change. But that’s a window, and what happens is that 99.9% of these animals get a fresh start. We see them in that window where we’re shepherding them into that new life. We get to be there, be present for them through the change, and it’s just so hopeful, and it’s not sad, and I have so enjoyed just giving what I can give in the time I have to those little creatures who need a hand to hold…”
