Membership Drive!!
In conjunction with our Farm Dinner, we are also humbly asking for people to help support the farm on a monthly basis in the form of a membership! We are a 501c3 non-profit (so everything is tax deductible!) and there are monthly costs that we need your help covering. We hope to get enough people who love the farm to join us in pitching in a little bit each month to help us keep growing the space. And we hope to give more ownership and access to folks who want to hang out at the farm! And thank to our friends at who are giving out a free cold brew with proof of membership :) also you’ll get 20% dinner tickets when you sign up to be a member!
When you become a member, you’ll get:
✓ Access to the Farm
✓ Member Pricing at Events and in our Online Store
✓ Quarterly Newsletter and Access to Online Farm Member Group
✓ Farm Supporter Sticker
But really we’re asking for your partnership, and we aren’t trying to create an “in” and “out” group or make this a transactional relationship. We just need help keeping the lights on and hope to see people using the space more and more! Thanks yall! Link in bio!

Hello from France! Bonjour à tous!

This is Culinary Director doing a little takeover of the Elmwood Farm instagram for a little bit to share with you all this amazing opportunity I have been able to take to take part in: a boucherie and charcuterie course in the farming villages of southwestern France (known as the Gascony region) called “A Well Kept Pig”.

This course is led by the expertise of and .france who have spent years learning, preserving, and teaching the art of French butchery and charcuterie. They have built relationships with local farmers and producers and are handing down these frugal, thoughtful, beautiful, humble, peasant traditions to the next generation.

It is my aim and my honor to be able to step into this old way of life, one that honors land and beast and person. I hope to learn as much as I can over this two week course and bring some of this rich culture and tradition back with me to share with our community. It’s not a fussy cuisine built with tweezers (no shade!) and only accessible for the wealthy. It’s true nose to tail eating that is comforting and wholesome. It brings with it a relational and communal beauty that is only formed when common bonds force people to lean on each other.

With no further ado I wanted to say I’ll be sharing as much of this experience as I can with you all, and I can’t wait to make saucisson, pâte, et jambon with you all in Texas soon!

This year at the farm, we are focusing on introducing two essentials: animals and tree crops. I want to back up a little bit and explain the “why”. If you live in Oak Cliff, raising livestock in the city isn’t anything new. (Shoutout to the house at the Tyler/Polk roundabout with both sheep and chickens). Nonetheless, animals are not a common sight on urban farms. In regards to the trees, we don’t know if Elmwood Farm will exist in twenty years when they are tall and grand. What I’m getting at is that these two aspects of a farm pose challenges and risks in an urban context, but we don’t believe you can farm sustainably without them. They are the foundations of an ecosystem that can provide food, fuel, and fiber in with longevity. This is what farms do. They provide food, fuel, and fiber over the span of generations. This is all difficult to imagine and put into practice in the city. It’s a thoroughly paradoxical exercise, which is why it’s necessary for us urban dwellers. Read The Rest - Link in Profile

Vinegar Trial Update

We had successful acidification on all five native Texas Grape varietals! Cloeta was our favorite wine, we shall see if it remains our favorite after the vinegar mothers have spoken with it.

Taste testing soon! (Though we’ve already used one of them in some Hoppin’ John and it was 👌)

VISIT OUR HOME PAGE TO DONATE TOWARDS OUR COMMUNITY EVENT SPACE!

We are so encouraged by the support you’ve all shown for the farm this year!! We have been able to host around 3,000 people at our various events in 2023. Since launching in May, we’ve collected over 1,100 pounds of compost; in a year we’ll have diverted about 3 tons of food waste from the landfill! We started opening our Farm every Friday for free play and we’ve been thrilled at the community’s regular enjoyment of our Children’s Garden/Play area!

Our vision for what’s next at Elmwood Farm is to be a permanent, reliable and hospitable Event Space that we can offer to our community. We are asking for your support in making that dream a reality. Our Total 2023 Year End Fundraising goal is $30,000 to outfit a Outdoor Kitchen, Covered Patio, Preservation Kitchen, Walk-In Fridge, and Permanent Bathroom Facilities. Today on Giving Tuesday, we are trying to raise $15,000 specifically for the Outdoor Kitchen and Covered Patio.

Help us reach our goal! Link in bio!

About the Farm

Elmwood Neighborhood Farm is a urban farm and heritage preservation organization dedicated to empowering local food production through cooperative and regenerative agriculture practices. We aim to preserve the traditions of our city’s diverse history and culture through research, intentional crop selection, and community education. Located in downtown Elmwood, our goal is that this farm will be a neighborhood gathering point that enriches the lives of all who call Elmwood home.
