Easter is underway at the City of Jasper TX Animal Shelter . If you're looking to give a dog new beginnings this Spring, consider adopting one of our adorable models!

(Jenkins, Tia, Blair, Midnight, Stetson)

03/21/2022

We were so excited to get Tia on a leash and out of the kennel. It was a bit of a wild ride in the beginning, but such a victory in the end. Tia is one of the hardest cases we’ve had, but such a sweetheart and well worth the effort. She’s gonna be a great canine companion with a little love and patience, and Blair, her puppy, is such a sweet boy too. He’s a bit ahead of her in the confidence arena. He’s also gonna be a great dog. If you, or anyone you know, is interested in adopting either Tia or Blair, please contact City of Jasper TX Animal Shelter for further info.

03/21/2022

Jenkins continues to improve in his confidence, and is killing it with his training. Alyssa is out of town so we won’t have a Tuesday training session this week, but can’t wait for our Thursday session and further progress. He’s such an amazing, smart, cute dog! 😍 If you want to improve your life and give this adorable, cuddly guy a home, please contact City of Jasper TX Animal Shelter for adoption information.

Shelter Stories: Jenkins is one of the cuddliest pups I have ever met! He needs a loving home that will give him a solid foundation to soothe his anxieties, and a lot of cuddles! Jenkins would be a great dog for agility, and companionship. If you’re looking for a mild mannered cuddle bug, he’s right here waiting for you! Just contact City of Jasper TX Animal Shelter for his adoption details.

Shelter stories: Saoirse was adopted this past week and found a forever home! We’re so happy for her and her new family. 💕 We are still training Saoirse’s best buddy Cailin (who is waiting for adoption at City of Jasper TX Animal Shelter) but we also started training Tia, her puppy Blair and a sweet dog named Jenkins (more about him will be coming soon) We have had some great progress with Tia and Blair in 2 very short sessions with them. Blair will be ready to leave the kennel next week to start his basic obedience and his mama, Tia, is not far behind. All 4 dogs are ready for adoption so if you love what you see, visit Jasper Animal Shelter and consider giving one of these sweet puppies a home. (Videos on Cailin, and many other dogs we’ve worked with, can be found on our page so follow us to see more.)

03/08/2022

King was sent to a rescue and his journey with us has ended. We will miss King, but we are so excited to work with Cailin and Saoirse. They are the best of buddies and a couple of real cuddle bugs. Because we can work with Cailin and Saoirse together, we’ve been able to add a fun bonus dog named Ace. We’ll be sending out his intro video soon. If you are interested in adopting any of the shelter dogs Lucky Dog Academy is training, please contact City of Jasper TX Animal Shelter. It will be a great decision!!

Shelter stories: Much to our relief, Aggie was taken in by a rescue this week. So her story with us has come to a happy ending. We started today working with Saoirse (Seer shuh)in place of Aggie. I didn’t think we’d find a sweeter girl than our Aggie, but I think we’ve found one in Saoirse. 💕 If you, or anyone you know, might be interested in adopting Saoirse, please contact City of Jasper Animal Shelter.

King is a ball of pure energy, but once he figures out what it is he needs to do, he’s a solid, smart boy. 😍 If you are interested in adopting King, please contact the City of Jasper Animal Shelter.

Aggie, once again, shows what a sweet smart dog she is. Her “safe place” has been to either sit on my feet, or place herself in the center between them. She loves the comfort of touch and she absolutely thrives on praise. I have fallen totally in love with her. 💕 I want so much for her to find a good loving home. If you are interested in Aggie, contact the Jasper City Animal Shelter. City of Jasper TX Animal Shelter

One last video of Leo during recall training. This is a great video to show his complete focus on me and being with me. You can see he was not deterred by our Doberman Luka who really wanted to play with him. Of equal note, you can see how well trained Luka is in her recall. She immediately breaks from her pursuit of Leo when Alyssa calls her. Love training success!

02/12/2022

Sadly COVID has now affected the Jasper Animal Shelter and we’ve been unable to do any training since this past Tuesday. This is Leo. He is not a shelter dog, but a dog we have been helping his owners rehome. We thought it would be fun to show some of his progress until we can get back to Aggie and Lay Lay. Both of which are great dogs looking to be adopted. You can see both in previously posted videos. Aggie is a “code red” dog. She’s a great dog who needs a new home quick. If you are interested in either Aggie or Lay Lay, please contact Jasper Animal Shelter. We wish them well and a swift recovery from COVID.

02/09/2022

Working on an advanced sit command with Lay Lay. She is so focused, and so quick to pick up in new things. She should easily have this command down during our next session and we’ll move her on to the next step. Lay Lay is a beautiful dog and so smart! If you are interested in adopting her, please contact the City of Jasper Animal Shelter.

02/09/2022

Alyssa training me to train Lay Lay on loose leash walking. Lay Lay is doing a really good job compared to our last session with her. My biggest challenge is that she really wanted to keep walking on the wrong side.

02/09/2022

Alyssa explaining the importance of taking things slow and why it’s important to not rush the dog to learn a command. Aggie was being such a good girl. You can see how focused she is.

02/09/2022

Alyssa with more explanation of how to teach “sit” with Aggie. We expect Aggie to have this figured out pretty quick during our next session. She was getting it correct more often, but ready for a break.

Alyssa explaining the importance of not rewarding the “free” command

When you adopt a dog from Jasper Animal Shelter, you already get a beautiful animal who has been spayed/neutered and cared for, but when you adopt one of the dogs, from the shelter, like Lay Lay or Aggie that have been trained by Lucky Dogs Academy, did you know?
1. You get potentially hundreds of dollars of training for FREE
2. You get continued discounted training from Lucky Dogs Academy for the lifetime of the dog, saving you potentially hundreds more.
3. You potentially save money from having to repair/replace people/items that are damaged from an untrained dog.
4. You get a full assessment of the personality/behavior and trainability of the dog you’ve adopted in addition to training logs for each training session so you can see how your dog has progressed throughout their training
5. You get additional hints, tips and instructions on how to maintain the training that had been done as well as advice on training equipment specific to the dog you choose.
6. Finally, you’re getting a dog who will be trained for its own safety as well as the safety of your family so you can enjoy a long happy life as a furever family.

Aggie and Lay Lay are the two dogs we are currently working with. Both are awesome in their own unique ways. If you are interested in adopting either dog, please contact:

Shelter stories
Meet Lay Lay
Aggie was such an easy beginner, we decided to start with Lay Lay today too. She’s a beautiful girl 😍 She is definitely a more high energy dog. She was on the leash like a husky being told to mush. 😂 She is solid on the “sit” command though, so it’s clear she has had some training before she ended up in the shelter. We are looking forward to getting her just as solid on the rest of her basic obedience. If you are interested in either Aggie or Lay Lay being a part of your furever home, please contact:

Shelter stories
Meet Aggie:
I thought Aggie was going to be a handful. When we approached her kennel today, she was barking and looked like she might be agressive. As an inexperienced trainee, I turned to Alyssa and said, “This one is all yours, I don’t think I know enough to not get bit.” Alyssa O'Donnal fearlessly approached Aggie and got the slip leash on her, but it turns out Aggie was not at all what she seemed. As you will see from her video, she’s as sweet as a kitten. She does not have the bad manners that many shelter dogs exhibit, like jumping up on people. She was such a good girl that we went from just running an initial assessment on her to a little first step, leash training. Later this week, you’ll get to see some of her progress. 😊 Aggie is what they call a “code red” dog, which means she’s in dangerous need of being adopted soon. She’s such a sweet and beautiful dog. If you, or anyone you know, is interested in adopting Aggie, please contact:

Shelter stories:
Cassidy and Jessie have been moved to a rescue in New York. Sue will also soon be moving to a rescue. We are so sad that their story with us has ended, but are excited to see them moved on to a more promising life and situation. It’s also provided some much needed relief for an overcrowded shelter. It’s hard to get to know them, learn to love them, then say goodbye to them, but we are grateful to find silver linings. Part of those silver linings was starting training with Aggie and Lay Lay today. 😊

Meet Leo:
This gorgeous guy is not a shelter dog, but he is a dog we have been working with and is looking for a new forever home. He is 6 yrs old, neutered, and up to date on shots. He has TONS of energy. He’s vocal, as huskies are, and a smart boy. When on leash, he’s gone from behaving as though he wants to win the Iditarod in an hour to a very sweet, polite boy. If you are interested in bringing Leo into your family, comment and we’ll provide contact info for Leo’s current family.

Shelter stories
Meet Sue
As if it wasn’t enough to start your weekend with the adorable Cassidy and Jessie, we just started our very first session with Sue. She is another complete sweetheart. We didn’t do a full training session with her today, but we did spend a quick minute learning not to jump on people.

If you love Sue and want to be her forever home, please contact:
