Have you met Hilary??

We’re proud to welcome Hilary Watson as the new head trainer at Trinity Forest Stables! Hilary (and her family of helpers) are hard at work at the facility every day. She’s a phenomenal trainer and our current students are already benefiting from her instruction. Not to mention she’s a huge asset to our team in caring for the horses; whether she’s setting jumps at 6am or filling up waters at 9pm, she’s always got a smile on.

Call us to schedule your lesson today. You won’t be disappointed!

Hey friends!🐴

☀️Scorching summer heat can be brutal, and it’s essential to understand the 🔥heat index🔥to keep our horses safe while riding. The heat index combines air temperature and humidity to give a “feels like” temperature, which is crucial for determining safe riding conditions.

Here’s a quick guide:

➕Calculate the Heat Index: Add the temperature (°F) and the relative humidity (%). For example, if it’s 90°F with 70% humidity, the heat index is 160, which is risky for riding.

⚠️Safety Thresholds:

Below 130 - Generally safe for most horses.
130-150 - Caution; monitor your horse closely.
Above 150 - Risky; consider reducing activity.
Above 180 - Unsafe; avoid riding.

Tips for Riding in Heat

• Ride Early or Late: Opt for early mornings or late evenings when it’s cooler.

•Stay Hydrated: Ensure both you and your horse drink plenty of water.

•Provide Shade: Take breaks in shaded areas.

•Cool Down: Use cool (not cold) water to rinse your horse after riding.

Always monitor your horse for signs of heat stress, like excessive sweating, rapid breathing, or lethargy. When in doubt, it’s better to skip the ride and keep your horse safe. Stay cool and ride smart! 🐎💦

Lesson horses are a blessing to so many of us in the equestrian community. But the people who commit to and care for these horses so that they’re able to do this in their 20’s deserve their own round of applause.

Shoutout to Kelly Dutton and West End Farm. LOVE seeing this from our former lesson horse Ice On The Line 💕

This is an Ice On The Line appreciation post! 🧊 The old man is 22 this year, and when Sydney said she wanted to take him to a show, I wasn't sure. But Ice rocked and rolled around the 2'3 and even did his signature move of taking a stride out in the last line! 💃🏻 Sydney asked to try the 2'6 at Longview and I said she could try it, just once, and if it went badly they had to stop. I'll be darned if Ice didn't make easy work of the 2'6 limit and win some ribbons against the warmbloods. This guy is a saint and a joy in our lives, and we're so blessed to have him and have him feeling so great! I hope he'll be out showing for years to come!

Every rider can relate to the feeling of looking at a jump and seeing nothing—no hunter gap, no quiet spot, just nothing. Some people are blessed with natural ability in this arena, but is there hope for the rest of us? We talked to top hunter, jumper and equitation trainers about their methods fo...
