🚨 PLEASE TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY
Paulding County Code of Ordinances specifically states unless you are on your own property you must have your dog on a leash.
90% of Paulding County Parks even have signs that dogs MUST be leashed.
There is NO reason to have your dog off leash in our public parks. And there is NO justification, behind such an inconsiderate decision.
I confront these incidents, as I take the welfare of not just my dogs, but OUR community’s dogs VERY seriously. It only takes 1 accident to change a dog and/or owners life forever because of someone else’s negligence.
I’m really taking a hard look at White Oak Park, and wondering what we need to do to clean up our actions..
When someone runs over their foot while mowing the lawn in sandals, we know its user error and not the lawn mower’s fault. It’s not even a serious discussion.
When someone can’t control their dog and it’s on a Flexi-Lead we blame the Flexi-Lead.
Flexi-Leads are not inherently bad. Flexi-Leads are great tools if you know how to use them. They fail because of the person holding them either is not understanding their functionality or not adequately training their dog to be on one.
This is a hill I will die on 😂

🐕 All dog’s should be properly crate trained.
🩹 Meaning, they can remain in a homeostatic state for most of the time they are in the crate without crying, barking, eliminating waste, destructive, or self mutilation behaviors.
📈In 90% of cases, there is nothing a new or basic dog owner CAN’T do to get their dog to that state.
👎 Prolonging, or avoiding your own temporary discomfort because you don’t like the crying or barking is only hurting your pup in the long run. Your dog needs the space and boundary where they are safe and feel confident being separated from others.

🐕 And congratulations to his whole family for taking on the challenge of putting a puppy through basic obedience classes! Jessica, Chris, and Reilly all did amazing!
Molly is the sweetest German Shepard Puppy who joined our Basic Obedience program!
She is also going to focus working on her impulse control so she can be a better dog sibling to her elders! 😉

🐕 Did you know, an ideal Body Condition System Score can improve your dog’s behavior?
📖 In 2017 a study was conducted that sampled over 11k dog’s and their owners to explore the relationship between obese dogs and their behaviors.
📈 the study concluded that, “In the present study, overweight status in dogs (as reported by their owners) was associated with a number of undesirable behaviours including food stealing, food guarding and aggression both to other dogs and strangers” (Journal of Nutritional Science, Volume 6, 2017).
🙋🏼♀️ So you may be asking, HOW?
👩🏫 Dog’s who MOVE whether it be train, walk, run, and play usually require their owner to be engaged and enable the dog to do those things. Which IMPROVES relationships between owners and dogs.
🏆 And if you’ve been here long enough you know RELATIONSHIP with your dog, is the absolute foundation for a well behaved dog!
🍪 So, chunky dog implies low level of activity. Low level of activity suggest low level owner engagement with dog. Low level engagement between dog and owner = bad decisions on dog’s behalf due to poor relationship with owner.
🥗 The graphic below is the Purina Body Condition System may be something you’ve seen in your vets office, and a super useful tool when gauging your dog’s weight and composition!

Gabbi is cooling off this humid/muggy Saturday with some Dog friendly Ice Cream after some training!
Gabbi walked 2.5 miles today at the park! She walks so nice on a lead and is growing to be so confident and less afraid!
☀️ Yesterday we worked on engagement with me through eye contact. 🐕 When Gabbi sits and is calm and checks in with me via eye contact she gets paid. This is important in relationship building and teaching her what behaviors quantify praise and reward. 📈 Today we are adding the next step which is including the platform bed. Completing commands on a compromised surface builds confidence, and from here she will learn implied stays and her release word from commands. *notice when she tries to take food from me I do not apply leash pressure or raise my voice. She is a fearful dog who will not respond well to these corrections. ❤️ If you’re interested in adopting Gabbi in the future or ANY Leica’s “Saving Paws” dogs I will be including their application in the comments!
