Another month, another Vickery Place Pet of the Month. Snuggle Bunny 🐰 and Milly 🐶 Milly & Snuggle Bunny received a generous gift basket custom curated just for them from our clinic. Rabbit snacks ✅, Summer dog toys and cooling blanket ✅, LVC swag ✅.
Milly is a mischievous basset hound and Snuggle Bunny is a calm therapy rabbit with a dash of chinchilla charm! Milly, known for her daring escapades down Belmont Ave, keeps the neighborhood on its toes with her boundless energy and infectious enthusiasm. Whether she’s chasing squirrels or sniffing out treats, Milly’s antics always bring a smile to everyone’s face. Meanwhile, Snuggle Bunny, with his fluffy fur and soothing presence, is the neighborhood’s very own therapy guru. With a blend of Flemish giant rabbit poise and chinchilla serenity, Snuggle Bunny brings comfort and joy wherever he hops. Together, this dynamic duo embodies the spirit of friendship, fun, and furry adventures in our neighborhood. Here’s to Milly and Snuggle Bunny, our June pets of the month!

We better find a home for this guy or Dr. Wright will want to keep him forever. (His orange tabby, Max, at home might not like that idea. 😹 But seriously all 3 kittens are still looking for a home and it is Adopt A Cat Month so…..who needs a sweet kitty? 😻😻😻 These 6 week old babies were rescued after this month’s storms when they were found living under a bar porch on Greenville. Two are male and one female (grey torti, second photo). They have each had a good exam and been dewormed. They can be adopted together or separately. ☀️🥵☀️ It’s getting hot, hot, hot, and warm weather don’t just affect us humans! High temperatures can cause serious health problems for our pets if we don’t keep them cool. Follow these tips to keep pets safe this summer.
☀️ Don’t leave your pet in the car, even on mild days. Vehicle interiors heat up dangerously quickly when the sun is out.
☀️ Beware hot pavement on sensitive toes. Check pavement temperature with the palm of your hand before taking your pup for a walk.
☀️ Don’t shave all their hair off! It may seem like a good idea to give your pet a drastic new ‘do, but their hair actually helps keep them cool by protecting them from the sun’s rays.
☀️ Don’t over-exercise. Physical exertion is more taxing when it’s warm. Let your pet take it slow.
☀️ Provide plenty of water at all times. Pets need to stay hydrated just like we do, and that need for water becomes more critical in the heat.

Fletcher, a delightful pup with boundless energy was welcomed into the loving arms of the Hope Family after they moved into Vickery Place recently. Fletcher is a four-legged dynamo whose zest for life stole their hearts from the moment they met.
Fletcher is not your average dog; he's a social butterfly with a wagging tail and a penchant for making friends wherever he goes. His signature move? A joyful jump to say hello to everyone he meets, spreading smiles and tail wags in his wake. So here's to Fletcher, the VPNA Pet of the Month, whose exuberance reminds us all to embrace life with open arms and a wagging tail.

It’s the ‘how-to guide’ you never thought you’d need, right? But routine f***l screenings are essential for keeping your pet and household healthy and safe! Here’s how it’s done:
💩Take a sample container or a bag from the clinic.
💩Walk with your dog, pick up their p**p like normal but put it in the sample bag or plastic container. If collecting for a cat, keep an eye on the litter box and get a fresh sample with as little litter as possible.
💩Seal the sample up tight.
💩Please drop off the sample at the clinic within 24 hours. Be sure to label it with your name and your pet’s name.
💩Pat yourself on the back for being a responsible pet owner!

There are very few diseases you can get directly from your pet, but one of them is especially easy to contract: leptospirosis, a highly contagious illness spread through the urine of infected wildlife.

Dogs don’t even need to make contact with wildlife to get the disease—simply drinking water or ingesting dirt that’s contaminated with the urine of common backyard animals like squirrels, raccoons, and foxes is enough to make your dog very sick.

It’s important to know that this disease is also zoonotic, which means if your dog catches it, the human members of your family could as well!

While you may feel like every month is pet month at your house, this special designation was created specifically to promote the benefits of responsible pet ownership, support pet adoption and shine a light on the work of service animals. Some great ways to celebrate include:
🐈 Adopt a pet – We have many great local shelters and rescues in the area with loving cats and dogs needing homes, and you can also check Petfinder and see who is available for adoption near you.
🐩 Support your local shelter – If you can’t adopt, consider donating money, food, or supplies, which are always desperately needed by these organizations. You might also want to volunteer your time if you’re able.
🐈‍⬛ Look into volunteering with a service dog organization – K9s For Warriors https://k9sforwarriors.org is always looking for puppy raisers to teach the basics to their guide dogs in training.

Whether you're hitting the trails or just lounging in the yard, it's essential to remember our pets' safety in the heat. ☀️
Here are five essential points to keep in mind:
1️⃣ Hydration is key! Always provide plenty of cool, fresh water for your pets, especially outdoors.
2️⃣ Limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day. Early mornings and evenings are best for walks.
3️⃣ Provide shade and shelter. Ensure your pets have access to shady spots and a cool place to rest outside.
4️⃣ Never leave pets unattended in a parked car, even for a short time.
5️⃣ Temperatures can skyrocket quickly, putting your pet at risk of heatstroke.
🥵 Watch for signs of overheating, including excessive panting, drooling, and lethargy. If you suspect your pet is overheated, move them to a cooler area immediately and call us at (214) 826-4800.
