AN APOLOGY FROM DOWNTOWN DOG
-For the last several months we’ve been trying every way we know how to avoid raising our rates. One way was to adopt a new credit/debit card processing system. It promised to streamlined checking out for you and save time and some confusion for us. Unfortunately, it also cost you more by charging you an additional activation fee each time you paid. It is not what we intended.
As of March 1st that fee will go away. We wish it could be sooner but in the meantime you can still avoid it by paying cash, or just bear with us until the first of next mont.
Again, we regret any disservice. We truly enjoy taking care of your pups and honestly value your continued patronage,without costing you any more than absolutely necessary.

As some of you know Elle, our wonderful groomer, has left us to work from home in Plano so she can be with her daughter. We understand that you may want to continue having your pet groomed by her so feel free to contact us for her contact information.

We're cautiously reopening our doors Monday morning, we will continue to monitor and take this very seriously. If you're dog is showing any symptoms as follow, (coughing, runny nose,eye discharge)please keep them home.We encourage you all to get your dogs the flu vaccine and keep them up to date on their vaccines. We will also have you guys sign our disclosure statement as you come in. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

UPDATE 1/9/23 #2

WE ARE CLOSED, WE ARE NOT TAKING ANY DOGS IN.

We want to thank everyone for their understanding, and patience with us, while we navigate this illness that has affected so many. We appreciate all the calls, texts, social media responses and updates regarding your own dogs and checking in on others. We hope that all affected dogs remain stable and come out great on the other side of the illness. At this time, we are still aware of only 2 cases which went to pneumonia, all others have remained more similar to kennel cough symptoms (honking cough, hacking at times including white foamy substance, possible lack of appetite, possible fever, and more resting than normal).

Our pneumonia boarding dog is back on property with us now, after roughly 24 hours of hospitalization/medical treatment. I believe the 2nd dog that had pneumonia is also back home after similar treatment.

We will probably remain closed the duration of this week so we can continue to focus on dogs still on property, which half of those are still showing symptoms, continue to disinfect the facility, and continue to educate ourselves and make a decision as to how we will plan to re-open and what new requirements we may have to do so.

Thank you all again, and we are thinking of all those affected and look forward to seeing everyone healthy and back to normal on the backside of all this.

Update 1/9/23

WE ARE CLOSED, WE ARE NOT TAKING ANY DOGS IN AT THIS TIME. We are here with boarding dogs on property and we will be available by phone. We will update as we can with our plan moving forward.

The number of dogs on property showing symptoms grew by 5-6 over the last 24 hours. From additional phone calls and customers off property, we are over 45 dogs now showing signs/symptoms.

We also had our first case, on property, which we felt elevated to a worse level rather quickly, which needed medical treatment and ended up being admitted at an emergency vet last night for care/treatment.

We are awaiting confirmation from the vet to learn if we are dealing with a canine influenza case in that pet, and if so, which strain (H3N8 or H3N2).

We cannot confirm more than 3 canine influenza cases at this time, as that’s what has been confirmed to us by customers or vet clinics, however on-property affected (those showing kennel-cough like symptoms) numbers has increased steadily in just over 72 hours.

Please consult with your vet about vaccinations and treatment

UPDATE 1/8/23

The number of dogs on property, showing symptoms over the last 24 hours grew by at least 6. We have not had anymore confirmed cases of canine influenza, however we did learn of a few more dogs, off property, whom were showing symptoms at home.

That brings the total number of dogs showing symptoms to over 2 dozen in about 5 days. Again, less/little to no exposure probably helps slow this down. If you don’t have to come in, probably best not to. We will continue damage control on our end the best we can and we recommend you contact your vet for treatment/vaccination recommendations.

UPDATE 1/7/23

Yesterday, we learned of a 3rd confirmed canine influenza case from a vet clinic. The number of kennel cough symptom cases grew to near a dozen, over half those being off property and half those being on property. We are utilizing our facility space, indoor and outdoor, to do the best we can to distance those with symptoms from those without and are keeping the pups spread out outdoors amongst our 11 yards as long as possible throughout the days.

Canine Influenza UPDATE

We’ve been informed by a customer that their dogs have been confirmed for canine influenza. It’s the first confirmed cases that we are aware of. These dogs have been off property since Monday Jan 2, and were not showing signs of being ill while on property.

We currently have 3 boarding dogs on property showing signs of kennel cough: coughing, hacking, and producing a white foamy substance. We do not have a quarantine/isolation area to contain these dogs, thus we will keep them separate from population during daycare and distance them, the best we can, from others during overnight boarding.

Dogs being up-to-date on vaccinations can still become ill.

Thank you for taking this information into consideration when considering daycare/boarding/grooming during this time. We will continue to do our best to minimize the spread on property, but certainly need your help to do so. If your dog is showing any signs of illness, keep them at home for now, and/or contact your vet.

Unfortunately in socialization environments, these situations happen from time to time. Thank you for your understanding.
