Meet Ms. Puff, a charming seven-year-old mixed breed, weighing 58 pounds. She has a beautiful black and white coat and fluffy tan eyebrows!

Initially shy, this sweet girl quickly warms up with treats and gentle pets. She's yearning for a quiet home where she can relax, hang out with her favorite people, and learn the ropes of being a beloved pet. Ms. Puff dreams of a home with a securely fenced yard, although she’d love a home in a low-traffic apartment with easy access to walking areas just as much.

She can be shy at first, but Honey has lots of love to give. She prefers a quiet home, due to a heart condition that her friends at the shelter can explain to Honey’s new family.

Once comfortable with you, she will be a real lovebug who loves treats, a cat tree and a soft bed. Kids older than 12 are okay, as is another confident cat in the home. Honey will do best without a dog in the house.

Say hi to Rex, a one-year-old mixed breed pup who’s looking for his forever home!

Weighing in at 43 pounds, this beautiful brindle-coated boy is a bit shy, but loves, and I mean loves, to chase a tennis ball! He might have short little legs, but he’s fast as lightening.

Rex is a friendly fella, but might do best in a home with kids older than five, so be sure to bring any children to a meet and greet prior to adoption. He would probably enjoy another confident dog in the home to help bring him out of his shell. Again, it’s a good idea to bring four-legged siblings to a meet and greet, too!

Meet Pumpernickle! She is a lively little lady who is waiting to find her forever family and she is eager to meet you at the SPCA of Texas. Pumpernickle is a 2-year-old female Catahoula Leopard Dog mix. She has a gorgeous brindle coat of swirled, black, red and cream and she’s just the right size at 54 pounds.

Pumpernickle has beautiful brown eyes and a lovely smile, especially when she’s got her tongue sticking straight out! And those ears! Sweet Pumpernickle has the longest pointy while at the same time bendy ears you’ve ever seen that only enhance her beauty.

Being as young as she is, Pumpernickle likes to get out to the play yard and pump up the volume on her zoomies. She also loves other fun activities like playing ball and going on walks. When her people want to join in on the fun, well, “the more the merrier,” Pumpernickle always says.

Skip and Speckle are two of the cutest kitties you will ever meet! Both being black and white domestic shorthairs with gorgeous green eyes, you’d think they were brother and sister!

Although that’s not the case, they are pair bonded—best of friends that need to be adopted together.

Speckle has a tiny pink nose and a little black goatee! Weighing in at six pounds, this two-year-old sweetie is a little shy and is looking for a calm home and a patient family.

Skip has two puffy white cheeks that stand out from his all black face. He’s the same size as Speckle but is five and a half years old. He’s also looking for that quiet home where the humans understand a little patience will go a long way toward gaining Skip’s confidence.

Say hello to Dually, an energetic and spunky two-year-old male Blue Heeler mix who is looking for his forever home. He’s at the SPCA of Texas waiting for you.

Dually has a mostly black coat with a beautiful salt and pepper chest and neck. And those eyes. So dark and sincere, they look right through you!

He’s done great on Borrow A Buddy weekends! Dually gets right in the car, loves meeting other people and other dogs, and he is especially good at basic commands such as sit and stay.

He has a lot of energy so Dually would love a home with an active lifestyle so that he can release those zoomies. Dually loves to go on long walks and would adore a secure backyard where he can run to his heart’s desire! Plus, there’s no bigger fan of the splash pool than this guy!

Say “Hello!” to One Eyed Jack! A beautiful, six and a half-year-old guy that’s full of love!

He might have only one eye, but it is perfect for seeing his favorite humans with! And the humans who work with Jack at the SPCA of Texas say he is a very good boy. Amazing, actually!

Jack recently went on a “Borrow a Buddy” outing for a day and ended up spending the week with a lovely lady! He was so good with her dog and with her. She said Jack turned into a big old couch potato. He was very well mannered and when she took Jack out for walks, he was great meeting everyone.

At 92 pounds, Jack is a mixed breed bundle of joy with dark soulful eyes and fluffy tan eyebrows. This gentleman sports a classic black and tan coat with a white underbelly. He’s wiggly and happy and loves his treats.

Going outside is a favorite activity and Jack would love a family that likes to play and who will help him work off some of that extra weight. Then, of course, be ready for lots of snuggles!

The Dallas Animal Care Center is open from Noon to 6 p.m. every day of the week.

Throughout August, in recognition of “Clear the Shelters,” all adult dog and cat adoptions are only $25 at the SPCA Dallas Animal Care Center and the Ellis County Animal Care Center ( 2570 FM Road 878 Waxahachie, TX 75165). There’s one exception—when a senior adopts a senior pet, age seven or older, the adoption fee is waived.
