Norbert has seen some things, never this much snow in his life, but some things. Aren’t his eyes just amazing? Gargoyle Geckos don’t have eyelids so to keep their eyes wet they actually lick their own eyes.

No Simi’s were harmed in the making of this video. This is the first time he’s ever had the chance to experience snow. So we took him out to play. Less than a minute out there and he was ready to go back inside. He was given a marshmallow as a treat for trying something new.

Trying to keep all the animals safe during this cold weather means everyone is inside! Even miss Shelly our 60lbs Sulcata tortoise. She’s got a nice heated blanket on right now and a bell pepper snack for when she wakes up from her nap.

“Excuse me human, but do you have a moment to talk about the lack of marshmallows in my life?” Coatimundis seem to think there’s nothing better to steal for a snack than marshmallows.

Happy World Coatimundi day from our little mischief maker himself. Please enjoy this photo of when he decided to play in the dust pile while we were sweeping. He was after the macaw feather and yes he ended up needing a bath 😂

Great information about tortoises and turtles!

Great information about tortoises and turtles!

A turtle's shell is not their home, it's their skeleton. When you look at a turtle's shell you're looking at the scutes (the "plates"- most turtles have 13) on their carapace (top part of their shell) which includes their ribcage and their backbone. Their shell is an integral part of their body, it's not where they live.

Snapping turtles have a territory ranging from 4 to 22 acres while box turtles have a much smaller territory ranging from .5 to usually less than 2 acres. Turtles have a home territory, and they all know their home very, very well.

If you see a turtle in an unsafe place like in the road or smack in the middle of a dog park, please don't take them and leave them somewhere that you think is appropriate. That'd be like me taking you from your back yard and leaving you in the middle of nowhere. Scary, right? Just move them off to the side in the direction they were headed. They know what they're doing and they know exactly where they're going. 😊
