It’s National Puzzle Day! I named my best girl Puzzle 🧩 because she was born with a brown heart 🤎 that looked like it fit into my Bernese Mountain Dog’s white heart 🤍. Jake gained his wings 13 days after Puzzle was born. I have no doubt he sent her to me and waited until I knew I could love another dog as much as him.

Jake was my heart dog, but Puzzle is my soul. I’m so grateful to love such perfect pups. 🐶

On Sunday, Haute Dog Pet Photography had the privilege of volunteering alongside the Humane Society of North Texas to document an incredible mission of hope and resilience. Nearly 180 pets* arrived at the Dallas-Fort Worth area, flown in by the amazing team at Wings of Rescue. These animals—a mix of strays and owner surrenders—had been saved from Los Angeles area shelters. This allowed space in the originating shelters for pets displaced by the wildfires, giving them the best chance of being reunited with their families. (*These animals were in shelters prior to the fires; they are not pets who were lost during the fires)

Having grown up in Southern California, this day was extra emotional. I remember the wildfire seasons that painted the skies orange. Knowing that my camera could play even a small role in these pets’ journeys toward safety and the increased potential for families who have lost everything in the fires to reunite with their pets was profoundly meaningful.

Jennifer and I had chatted back in fall about her vision for a red flying dress session with her mare in the snow. When DFW got hit with the arctic storm last week we grabbed our gear and raced (ok drove carefully but excitedly) to the barn. Dora was a champ given the pelting sleet, blowing umbrella, and flying dress and Jennifer rocked the dress as if it were 70 degrees 🥶. 🐕‍🦺 Dozens of foster dogs photographed to find homes
🐈 8 Cats who graced us with their regal presence
🙊 2 Monkeys, 1 Lemur, 1 Bear, a Leopard, Camels, and 2 Horses
