Bonnie is settling in and learning how to become a dog. She got a bath, started to play with her foster brother and parents and is showing more of her personality each day! She is dog friendly, likes to play tug of war, is fully potty trained, and loves her crate and safe space, and wants to be loved on and cuddled 24/7. She will complete her vetting this Wednesday and will be available for adoption after she has recovered.

We have 3 pups being vetted and have received hardly any donations in the past couple of months.

Holiday season has done a number on our rescue, between multiple surrender requests, no open fosters, and hardly any donations…well it’s a little overwhelming to say the least. Being completely volunteer based and relying solely on the community, we need donations to help recover the medical expenses we have incurred. We did not receive any donations for Mateo’s or Blue’s recent visits totaling over $1,000 and must reach out for a helping hand in order to get Aspen vetted.

Aspen is available to foster or foster-to-adopt in the DFW area until he completes his vetting, all supplies will be provided by the Xena Project Rescue, you just provide the space. Good with dogs, okay with cats so far, and mostly potty trained (marks in new areas, belly band recommended for first couple of days while he adjusts). He’s a happy go lucky guy who wants to be laying by your feet or next to you on the couch.

Let’s talk about Reactive Dogs for a moment shall we?

Many times people will think a reactive dog is an aggressive, mean spirited dog with a bad attitude when that is just not the case. Simply put, the dog is scared and/or frustrated and does not have the knowhow to regulate their emotions during a high stress period (high stress being a spectrum for dogs). These dogs are often the sweetest dogs who love to cuddle and even play with other dogs but are often overlooked due to their behavior.

With proper management and guidance, a reactive dog can learn over how to manage those emotions.

Vinny is one of our first rescues and has been with us since May of this year and has developed some reactivity due to the many changes he has gone through. We have started professionally training Vinny and have started him on some anxiety meds to help his mind go into the right mindset to learn that the world isn’t so scary and he is doing wonderfully.

Vinny is a sweet cuddly boy who just needs a chance. He needs an understanding home who is willing to help guide him. He does well with cats and needs a slow introduction with desensitization period with dogs. We know there is a special someone out there for Vinny, someone who is patient and dog savvy, we know you’re out there. We just have to find that person to help Vinny find his forever home. His adoption fee has been sponsored by a kind Samaritan as well and he is fully vetted, potty, and crate trained.

Introducing Rhino!

Rhino was left abandoned in a rural neighborhood in Kaufman County, TX. He was found the day after Christmas and his finders desperately searched for his owners with no luck. They wanted to help but needed a rescue to guide and assist them so they reached out to us. How could we say no to this face? 😍

Rhino makes rescue number 25 for 2024, reaching our goal for the year! We cannot wait to see him blossom and find his forever home! Bonnie’s foster parents say “She's doing great! Settled in quick and has been loving all the pets and treats she's gotten today”!

Sweet Bonnie will complete her vetting over the next couple of weeks and we can use your help to cover the bills. After being abandoned bin a truck yard behind a gym in Rowlett, TX on Christmas Eve, she is now safe with us thanks to fosters.

We have taken in 3 dogs (yes three…more to come on that!) in the past week alone and all 3 will need full vetting. We have over $600 in pledges that have been ignored/unpaid and have not received many donations over the past couple of weeks. We rely solely on the goodness of the communities heart in order to keep saving abandoned animals and desperately need our tribe again as the upcoming bills are piling up quick. If you have even $5, any little bit helps. With over 500 followers, I know we can raise the needed funds and end 2024 with a bang!

Duck’s DNA results came in! Quite a mix in there and 100% good boy! He’s what some call an American Mastiff and is growing rapidly. He is the SWEETEST boy ever and we are so shocked that he hasn’t found his forever home yet. He does have a meet and greet scheduled this week and our fingers are crossed that they fall in love just as we have! 😍
