Twenty-four hours ago, we welcomed K**e, now known as Mocha, as the first GALT AZ Galgo alumni. This sweet boy was eagerly greeted by his wonderful mom, Christine, who was way over the moon when she finally was able to meet him.

Mocha traveled from Spain with six other dogs who have loving homes waiting for them. “Thank you” no where near covers the appreciation for Sanctuary at Bluebird Lane for coordinating the transport, the dedicated volunteers who assisted with the arrivals and next leg of the travels and to Scooby and Christine for trusting us with Mocha’s adoption. Our hearts are full!

We have something BIG and LITTLE to share…We will be welcoming our first Galgo from Spain! Meet little K**e, an eight month old sweet boy, who will live the great life in Arizona!

It's our favorite time of year... AUCTION TIME! Our fall auction benefitting our December 4th transport will get underway tonight at midnight with a soft open on our SABL's "Built With Love" Fundraising site. We will be loading auction items tonight through 11/25 with the auction running all items through December 1st at 7 PM MST time. So check in each day to see what's new and BID BID BID your big hearts out. What a wonderful way to help incoming dogs for three US groups, the Sanctuary at Bluebird Lane, SAGE Save A Galgo Español, and GALT Arizona, along with three Spanish rescues, Ibizan Hound Rescue, Mandy's Rescue Dogs, Protectora y Santuario Scooby, and Fundación Benjamín Mehnert, each who have dogs on our transport shown below. Our heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation to our Founders, John and Susie McQuade. They’ve dedicated over 20 years to build one of the largest and most respected greyhound adoption organizations. Wishing John and Susie all the best in their well deserved retirement. We love you!

With the closing of our boarding kennel and the transition back to a foster based adoption group in June, 2024 has already been a year of significant change for GALT. Our biggest transition is currently in process and might be a change you have not yet heard about. Our co-founders, Susie and John McQuade, are retiring from GALT as of year-end. Susie and John founded GALT in 2001 and built our organization into one of the premier greyhound adoption groups in the country. Under their leadership, GALT found homes for more than 4,000 hounds. We cannot thank them enough for their tireless support, love, and dedication to this group and especially to the hounds. We wish them well in retirement and look forward to seeing them at a GALT event soon, as participants just having a good time and not worrying about the work!

Our new leadership team will be elected at an upcoming board meeting. Though the McQuades leave huge shoes to fill, rest assured that GALT will continue their mission and that plans are already in place for a seamless transition. We will finish 2024 strong with our annual Holiday Boutique and Santa Pictures on November 29 and 30, Giving Tuesday on December 3, our year end giving campaign, and another group of 8 Australian greyhounds arriving on December 6!

Anyone in the Tucson area who would like to help us with bird testing? We have a few adopters waiting who also share their home with birds and we could use your help. Drop us a comment or send us a message if you can help us out. (Testing, cat, small dog, birds, etc. are always done safely with dogs muzzled).

Peter is not your average greyhound; he adores playing fetch and engaging with his colorful toy collection, showcasing his surprising agility and zest. His playful and rambunctious nature ensures there's never a dull moment when he's around. But what truly captures hearts is his sassy way of insisting on affection. With just one look from his expressive eyes, you'll find yourself drawn into cuddles and play.

When it comes to companionship, Peter is second to none. He's a loyal follower, always keeping close to his humans. He loves being part of whatever is happening, eagerly shadowing his family from room to room. He quickly mastered the stairs in his foster home, though he occasionally looks for that extra bit of encouragement to keep going.

Peter walks fairly well on a lead, which is a testament to his eagerness to explore and learn. However, his high prey drive means he'll need a vigilant owner who can manage him on a short lead to keep his enthusiastic pursuits in check. While he does pull a bit when excited, his behavior is manageable with consistent training and attention.

This charming boy thrives on routine and would flourish in a home where schedules are a part of daily life. His tall stature and curiosity mean he sometimes finds himself in places he shouldn't be, so he'll do best with owners who can provide a watchful eye and a loving home.

Sweet Nico, he’s the best of the best and best of all, he’s adoptable! Learn more about Nico by visiting GALTx.org!

Nico is seeking a forever home with experienced dog owners who he prefers to be female. Read more: Nico is a 120-pound sleek-coated boy with a stunning tuxedo coat. He retired from coyote hunting in Corrales, NM over a year ago. He’s a gorgeous mix of Irish Wolfhound, Borzoi, and Greyhound. His former owner said he is an “alpha” but here in his GALT foster home, he hasn’t shown any signs of that, living peacefully inside with other hounds ranging from 38 to 78 pounds (both a male and females). Outside, we separate him from the smaller and senior hounds for safety, and segregate him at feeding time. Nico walks well on a harness and collar/leash combo and is very well mannered unless a rabbit hops by (and will pull in these cases). Nico is a sociable hound at our weekly pack walks and he has been a perfect patio dining companion at local restaurants. He catches everyone’s eye that meets him as he is one handsome hound.

Nico is very food motivated which makes training easier. He is an excellent and non-picky eater and earns his “bowl-cleaner award” at every meal. He is a bit of a Velcro boy and follows his people around and loves to be pet (but not hugged or hovered over). He is normally quiet and has made an excellent work from home officemate, except when he roos along with his foster pack with his lovely baritone voice. When Nico does bark it is a very big bark which would surely dissuade any intruder. When his foster parents leave, he gets a little anxious for 5-10 minutes, and then goes to nap with the rest of the pack. He is very compliant during needed care activities like taking pills, getting groomed, taking a bath, wearing a cone (after his neuter), wearing a muzzle, sleeping overnight in a kennel for safety (Nico tends to lay across doorways causing a tripping hazard in the dark for his foster dad and Nico has had a couple of instances of sleep startle when stepped on).

Nico got so much of the best of all of his breeds makeup, he got the sweet goofiness of the Irish Wolfhound, the tall elegance of the Borzoi, and the calm content disposition of the greyhound. His forever family is going to be quite lucky to call this boy their own. His ideal forever home will have a yard to spend time together in, a tall secure enclosure (he’s still athletic for a senior), and Nico prefers the company of women, to a fault.

GALT volunteers are busy getting ready for incoming greyhounds! Next week, seven are making their way to sunny California, Arizona and New Mexico. Two weeks later, more will arrive in Dallas and ANOTHER group to So. Cal, Arizona and New Mexico.
