It’s that time of the year again – clipping season! Clipping makes life a lot easier for sport horses and riders during winter. It helps horses release heat easier during training and dry faster afterwards. Remember, though, that clipping changes your horse's thermoneutral zone, so choosing the right blanket after the cool-down is essential, based on the outside temperature. 🌡️

And don’t forget: horses have very sensitive skin. A clean, soft coat and the use of pH-neutral products (between 7.0 and 7.4) are essential to keep their skin healthy and protected. 🐴

A (tendon) injury always happens unexpectedly. The best thing is to prevent it. You can do this by detecting small irregularities in time that could lead to something bigger. Check the legs every day by feeling them. Know your horse. Make sure you notice any changes. Is a leg warmer or swollen? Does he react when you squeeze it? Knowing your horse and detecting abnormalities is essential in preventing injuries.

We love muesli! 🐴💙
At Cavalor, we believe in the power of quality and combining ingredients to truly make a difference. That's why you won’t find any products with just a single ingredient. We choose feeds that do more, like our mueslis.

Why are we so passionate about muesli? Its structure encourages slower eating, which means your horse chews more and produces more saliva. Saliva helps neutralize stomach acid and supports healthy digestion. Plus, you can see exactly what you're feeding – every ingredient is visible. 🌾

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲: 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 🌾
Every horse has its own individual dietary needs, but the basic principles remain the same for all horses. Young or old, active or at rest, all horses need energy, protein, vitamins, and minerals. These are the essential nutrients and a daily minimum supply of them is necessary for survival and maintaining good health. They are the basics of what we call foundational feeding.

Functional feeding, on the other hand, involves nutrients that are not essential for life, but which are known to contribute significantly to the horse’s performance and well-being. Functional feeding for horses who need extra support for joints and tendons include substances like glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, and essential oils. These can be supplemented to the foundational ration.

Remember: always make sure that your horse’s basic needs are being met. If the horse’s foundation isn’t good, functional feeding won’t have the optimal result. Glucosamine, for example, is only beneficial for joint health if the feed also contains sufficient amounts of copper, zinc and manganese.

𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝘆𝘁𝗵: 𝗜𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆? 🤔

Stress in horses often carries negative connotations, but is it truly always harmful? Let's delve into it! When horses experience stress, or more accurately, tension, the hypothalamus in the brain is stimulated. This part regulates body balance, emotions, and basic needs. Through the nervous system, it signals the adrenal glands, where substantial amounts of adrenaline, noradrenaline, and cortisol are produced.

Adrenaline makes a horse alert, facilitating immediate reactions, while cortisol ensures prolonged alertness. This process optimizes the horse's performance: faster heart rate, higher blood pressure, and widened bronchi for more oxygen. Brief tension is essential for responses and achievements. Adrenaline readies the horse's body for action, and after tension subsides, the body returns to the normal phase.

However, excessive prolonged tension can indeed be detrimental to the horse's health, both physically and mentally. So, stress isn't always bad, as long as it is transformed into physical activity.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 💦🐴
Did you know that the average body temperature of a horse is around 99-100°F? During exercise, the body produces energy, which is converted into heat. To maintain a stable body temperature, your horse expels excess heat through its lungs and skin. Yes, by sweating!

Why is sweating so important?
Sweating helps your horse cool down faster after exercise. This is crucial for your animal’s health and performance. But don’t forget: sweating also means a loss of fluids and essential minerals.

How can you keep your horse healthy?
🥤 Refresh drinking water: ensure your horse always has access to fresh drinking water.
💧 Replenish fluid reserves: timely replenish your horse's fluid reserves to prevent dehydration.
🧂 Electrolyte supplement: consider an electrolyte supplement to quickly replenish essential nutrients and minerals.
