Ayla continues to improve! She was able to walk a bit on her own today. She's still a bit unsteady but we are hoping that as she gains strength, she'll be home at Indraloka by Friday. Her toxemia is completely resolved and the babies are doing well. Your incredible support has meant so much—thank you for caring for her as much as we do. Check out this video of Ayla walking on her own:

Sandy, our beautiful, magical, and deeply beloved alpaca, crossed over yesterday. How can words possibly capture her essence? They simply cannot. But if you ever had the privilege of meeting her—even just once—you know.
Ethereal yet grounded, vulnerable yet strong, charismatic yet shy, profoundly wise, and with the best hair ever, Sandy was truly one of a kind.
When Sandy came to us, she had neurological damage caused by meningeal worms. She walked with a wobble, sometimes spun in circles, and occasionally fell. Yet, every time, she’d patiently wait for one of us to help her back to her feet, then carry on with her day. When we first rescued her, she couldn’t stand at all. But Sandy was determined. Against all odds, she learned to stand, then to walk—and one unforgettable day, she was running.
Sandy never felt sorry for herself. She focused on what she had and loved with her whole heart. She adored her family of sheep, alpacas, chickens, cats, and humans. At the end, she passed gently, gazing into the eyes of her dearest alpaca friend, Emunah, and cradled by the humans she loved so much. Her spirit left her body softly and floated above the barn, looking back with love on her multispecies family before drifting into the Great Mystery beyond.
Sandy taught us about resilience, love, and joy. Long live Sandy—in the star world and in our hearts.

Ayla is continuing to improve! Thankfully, with the proper nutrition she's been receiving on a steady basis, her pregnancy toxemia has resolved. Our good friends at Quakertown Veterinary Clinic are treating her with lots of physical therapy and she is getting her strength & coordination back, slowly but steadily. She's getting help standing & walking, and we're hopeful that she'll be able to stand up on her own very soon.
Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, and sent well wishes to sweet Ayla! This work takes the support of a community, and we're so lucky and grateful to all of you who make up the amazing one at Indraloka 🫶

A Heartfelt Thank You from All of Us at Indraloka to All of You:
We couldn’t do what we do without YOU. Whether you're a long-time supporter, a new friend, or someone who just discovered our mission, we want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for your unwavering love and support. ❤️
Because of YOU, our animals have a safe and loving place to call home. They have a veterinary clinic and round-the-clock care from the incredibly dedicated veterinary team led by Dr. Leslie Interlandi and all the caregivers, techs, veterinary nurses, and facilities professionals.
Because of YOU, in 2024 we expanded services offered to the community at the NEPA Rescue Vet Clinic. We welcomed new beloveds into the family. We launched programs to help the community, especially children, educators, and health care professionals, manage the challenges of life.
🙏 A Special Thank You for Your Help During Our Recent Emergency Rescue 🙏
We are incredibly grateful to all who came together to help us get beautiful Ayla the help she needs. She is in the Quakertown Vet Clinic and appears to be out of the woods with pregnancy toxemia. Her neurological issues may be caused by meningeal worms, which is very serious and can be difficult to treat. But we've nursed Sandy through this terrible disease and are hopeful Ayla and her babies will go on to live long, beautiful sanctuary lives.
Your donations, shares, and messages of support allowed us to provide immediate care for the animals in need. Every act of kindness, big or small, creates a ripple of hope in the world of farm animals. Thank you for being a part of our mission to offer a second chance at life to those who need it most.
Here's to more love, more rescues, more programs for people, and more happy tails (and hooves) in the future! 💚

*Ayla Emergency Update & Match Opportunity*
Sweet Ayla may be in need of an emergency C-section. She may have developed pregnancy toxemia, a condition that can be fatal if not treated. Right now, she is on her way to Quakertown for the procedure. While we are hoping that doctors can safely deliver the baby, it's too soon to tell.
Friends, will you help with her emergency care? One of our generous donors has offered to match all donations made today up to $1,000. We aren't sure how much this surgery will cost or how long it will take but we are committed to doing all we can for Ayla. Thank you for sending all your thoughts and prayers--we know she feels them and we're surrounding her with love ❤️
We're calling her Ayla, which is Turkish for Halo of Light 💖 She appears to be in the late stages of pregnancy, with one or possibly two babies on the way at any moment. We can keep her comfortable, warm, and fed, but she does need significant medical attention. She’s infested with fleas, ticks, and worms. She has a slight fever and is in a lot of pain. We’re being cautious with medication—giving her only those that are safe for her baby. More effective medications we would normally start her on right away must be postponed until the babies come. Right now, we’ve made up a “labor room” for her in the clinic with soft lighting, relaxing music, water, and healthy treats—all in an effort to keep her comfortable and feeling safe.
We've been made aware of a pregnant goat in need of urgent rescue. While we don't know much, we do know that this sweet mom-to-be has significant health challenges and could give birth at any moment. She's clearly suffering from neglect, is malnourished and has grossly overgrown hooves that have significant hoof rot, making it impossible for her to stand without collapsing. We are working hard to understand her most immediate needs and assess the viability of her unborn baby and will share more as soon as we can. Despite being terrified to leave the truck, she is now showing signs of trust, eating from our hands and accepting affection. She seems to know she's safe.
Your contribution to our emergency rescue fund will help us better understand what she needs and what we can do for her and her baby.

Sarah Serenading Eddie
We are so grateful for the outpouring of love for Eddie Traffic and your condolences to us all at Indraloka. We are hurting. But Eddie is free and our love for him will live on for eternity at the sanctuary, in our hearts, in our stories, photos, and videos. Grief is another word for love. Here, we hope you enjoy Sarah's serenading of Eddie as much as Eddie did.
Caroling with Eddie and Sarah
Sarah Thornton, Director of Education, talented musician and teacher, and extraordinarily fabulous person, often plays music for the Beloveds. Here, Eddie enjoys his dinner concert. Godspeed, Eddie. We will love you forever.
Year-End Impact Match
Indraloka's dedicated caregiving team is the backbone of the rescue work we do. The collective knowledge of the Indraloka Caregiving team is mind-boggling. They provide health care, comfort, and treatments to nearly 200 animals rescued from the most desperate circumstances. Their work is highly physical. There is no such thing as downtime when they are onsite. They are always on the alert for someone who may need them.
On top of the care they provide the animals, they also muck barns, drive tractors, tote bales of hay from stall to stall, fill dozens of water bowls and troughs, clean, organize, and troubleshoot multiple situations daily. Indraloka could not run without our wonderful caregivers.
Donors are every bit as essential as caregivers. Let's face it, without donations, we wouldn't be here.
Your year-end donation will be matched up to $50,000. Every dollar you give will have double the impact. Please give if you can. https://indraloka.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/indraloka/donation.jsp
Big BoysJeremiah and Eddie Traffic were BEST friends from the moment they met 10 years ago. As they advance into their twilight years, they remain devoted to each other. Here, caregiver Emilly is giving the best buddies cold laser therapy, which helps reduce pain and inflammation, and facilitates healing.
We learn a lot about friendship and creating our families of choice from all the beloveds, but especially the pigs. We are so grateful for every moment we get to share with them. 💙💙💙

Mongo and Divino
Mongo understands the power of beauty. Here, as he grazes with his good buddy Divino, he gives Divino a few grooming tips and even steps in to help get Divino spruced up. Mongo and Divino bring immense joy to us and so many visitors. They are beloved, and they have every right to be here, alive and thriving. Animals are not ours to exploit. #friendsnotfood

Indraloka Animal Sanctuary is a private, charitable 501(c)(3) organization that provides “heaven on earth” for farm animals that have nowhere else to turn. Indraloka informs, inspires, and empowers the community, especially children, on how to better care for themselves and the environment while helping animals in need. The organization advocates for a compassionate lifestyle that protects animals, the earth and our own health.
Founded in 2005 by Indra Lahiri, Indraloka is in the process of moving from its original 30 acres in Mehoopany, Pennsylvania to nearly 100 acres in Dalton, PA (conveniently located two-hours from both Philadelphia and New York, and only 15-minutes from Scranton). Indraloka rescues and provides lifetime care for the most at-risk animals in the world – farm animals facing abuse, neglect, hoarding, and worse.
Indraloka, which means “Heaven for the Gods” in Sanskrit (an ancient Indian language), is the only U.S. farm animal sanctuary to achieve accreditationfrom both the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), earned in 2016, and the American Sanctuary Association (ASA), earned in 2018.
Indraloka Animal Sanctuary is creating a kinder, more compassionate world through four key strategies:
1) Farm animal rescue, care, placement, and protection - Indraloka has saved the lives of thousands of farm animals in dire need. Today, nearly 300 animals of 14 different species are thrilled to call Indraloka home. Their unique humane law enforcement service offers protection to farmed animals in four counties.
2) Advocacy - Through art, stories, films, education, and speaking engagements, the sanctuary tells the animals' stories and helps people to understand and respect them as individuals who matter. Indraloka reaches hundreds of thousands of people around the globe each year through events, education, speaking engagements, storytelling and videos. The organization has garnered worldwide recognition, with followers on every continent and in over 100 countries.
3) Global Coalition of Farm Sanctuaries - Indraloka leads a global network of sanctuaries and offers support to help new or struggling sanctuaries succeed.
4) Hopeful Heroes Initiative - The sanctuary offers innovative and engaging educational opportunities for thousands of marginalized children and youth.
