“I couldn’t lose him,” said Mario Alberto, a deaf man who woke to find his car and home engulfed in flames in the dead of night. His only thought was for his beloved dog, Gordo, trapped inside.
In desperation, he tried to fight the blaze with a garden hose, but the fire quickly overpowered him, consuming everything and dashing his hopes of saving Gordo.
Through the chaos, Alberto kept signaling to first responders, refusing to give up. When all seemed lost, a firefighter emerged from the smoke—Gordo safe in his arms.
A moment of pure courage and love amidst devastation.
Please bring in your pets, leave water out for the wildlife and whatever you do don't shoot them, they're running for their lives and have nowhere to go.
Seeking Stories of Signs from Beloved Animals Who Have Passed
Dear Friends,
Have you ever felt the presence of a beloved animal who has passed away? Perhaps you've seen an aura, heard a familiar sound, or sensed its comforting presence. These signs from above can bring joy and wonder and remind us of the enduring bond we share with our animal companions.
On November 17, at 5 PM, on Zoom (https://zoom.us/j/990855545...) Perfect Paws Pet Ministry will hold its annual service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving. It's a time when we remember and honor animals who have died this year and show our appreciation for the animals who currently reside with us.
As part of our special service, we will read short paragraphs contributed by you about such special moments. Whether it was a fleeting glimpse, a gentle nudge, or a profound experience, your story can offer hope and solace to others grieving the loss of their furry friends.
Please share your experiences here and we will select a few to include on November 17. Or come to our service and share the story yourself. Include the name, age, and species of the pet, how long you had it, the sign or experience that made you feel its presence after it passed, and what it meant to you.
Your words can help create a tapestry of love and remembrance, celebrating the unique and everlasting connection between humans and their animal companions.
With gratitude and anticipation, Fran Weil, pet chaplain

Virtual Blessing of the Animals officiated by The Rev. Mary Scott Miller today at All Saints Episcopal Church of the North Shore

Perfect Paws Pet Ministry at
All Saints North Shore, Danvers, MA
In 2017, the Perfect Paws Pet Ministry -- a robust outreach ministry from All Saints Episcopal Church of the North Shore -- celebrated its seventh year of existence.
Much has changed since our first service on Sunday, May 16, 2010, when we offered a simple service of Holy Eucharist and reflection in O'Neill Hall, welcoming a large group of animal lovers who brought their beloved animal companions to church to experience something new and different ... and oh so loving!
In 2010, a story on our new worship initiative -- written by Ethan Forman for the Salem News -- was picked up by the Associated Press and carried all over the United States and the world! We still maintain relationships with people who read that story and reached out to us from the U.S. and Germany, Ireland, Italy and Hungary with requests for "paper prayers" for their ill or deceased animal friends. And many members of that original congregation -- nearly eight years ago -- still come to our monthly services, some with their original animal companions. Some -- who have lost their beloved animal friends -- come without, or have brought new ones to introduce to what has grown into a close and supportive community of some 40 or more people who congregate on the third Sunday of each month, from 5 to 5:30 p.m.
Our candle-lighting service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance, each November, is a huge draw, as is our Christmas for the Animals service in December.
Since our inception, our ministry has expanded into mission in a number of wonderful ways.
Perfect Paws runs a year-round pet food and pet supplies drive for the People to People Food Pantry, and our volunteers have delivered more than two tons of pet food to the Pantry, to help folks who find it difficult to feed their families and to provide also for their four-footed charges.
In partnership with Dog BONES Therapy Dogs of Massachusetts, we offer therapy dog certification workshops out of Parish Hall, and deploy those teams throughout the north shore, to hospitals, assisted living and rehab centers, colleges and high schools to offer de-stressing patting real estate for students (faculty and staff too!) facing mid-term and final exams.
Most recently -- through our Happy Readers Dog Tutors program -- we have developed an ongoing relationship with area school systems, including Danvers and Peabody, working with school psychologists and adjustment counselors by visiting regularly, developing mini-curricula to stimulate learning and a new appreciation for education -- all through the calm and steady presence of our therapy dogs, the ultimate ambassadors of learning.
Perfect Paws is self-sustaining. Contributions we receive support the array of services we offer at no charge, including:
· Pet loss bereavement counseling (individual and in groups; in person, on the phone or through email) by our certified Pete Loss Bereavement Counselor, Fran Weil.
· Our e-newsletter that goes to folks all over the world
· Companioning people as they visit veterinarians and deal with their pets' euthanasia
· The ongoing pet food and pet supplies drive for the Danvers People to People Food Pantry
· Our therapy dog certification workshops and deployments
