On this sweet day we have a story to share with you about the best pup, Gotti.
Gotti is a shelter favorite who has been with us too many times to count...7, actually! Gotti was originally seized for neglect in 2022. After being adopted Gotti was in and out of the shelter as a stray. Once, an officer had to pick up Gotti from a violent crime scene in the middle of the night. Most recently, an officer received a call late one night that a black pitbull had been hit by a car. Our officer rushed to the scene and found it was sweet Gotti.
After the trauma of being hit by a car, Gotti is suffering from sacroiliac luxation. The sacroiliac joint is where the pelvis attaches to the spine. Gotti has luxation on both sides of his pelvis. This is causing him to be unable to place his full weight onto his right hind leg.
To allow Gotti to walk comfortably and have the chance to live an active life in the future, he needed to have surgery to realign the joints and stabilize them with screws or pins. This repair had to be corrected at the University of Illinois.
While undergoing pre-op evaluations his CT showed a rupture of his prepubic tendon which had to be fixed surgically as well.
Gotti is such an amazing dog that a private donor stepped in to cover $2000 out of the $7000 needed to cover the cost. Gotti needed surgery quickly so we did not have time to raise funds prior to surgery.
Gotti is recovering in a temporary foster home who is experienced with medical cases and the recovery process. We are so thankful that he's on the mend and will be looking for a home or rescue after his 8 week recovery.
