Sad update.

My last post contains the full initial information, but ultimately, all of the questions have finally been answered, and the news is devastating.

UPS themselves, basically gave me the minimum refund of $300. Even had they refunded the entire cost of the skeleton, it won't bring back Uri, or ease the heartbreak. This was never about the money.

They would not tell me anything more than "the investigation was thorough, and there is no further information. The package and its contents no longer exist, and the investigation is closed." They stopped responding entirely to texts, emails, and phone calls. I would be placed on hold, and the phone would just continue to ring .... forever.

I was not going to settle for that. I spent weeks on the phone, in emails, in messages, in fb groups; anything I could think of, tracking down any bit of information I could.

I ended up finding a few employees that work at that specific hub, through a Facebook group. Their stories matched. Not perfectly, but well enough that the story is believed.
Basically, Uri, and the shipping crate, were placed on the wrong type of conveyor belt. While on this belt, the 70 POUND CRATE traveled up an unknown distance, got stuck in a chute, fell, and broke. The box, and its full contents,in pieces, were all discarded.😭😭😭

I will be repaying my client, in full, even though she didn't ask. Its just the morally right thing to do, but I am honestly unsure how to proceed with this from a buisness standpoint. This "buisness venture" was always more of just a fun hobby/side gig. Now, its no longer fun. It has broken my clients heart, and my own alongside.

I have, even if not fully within my control, ruined a beautiful, sentimental, memorial of a woman's beloved pet of 20+ years. With that, I am absolutely embarrassed and devastated. I wish I could right this by offering more than just a refund, but I can not.

The only thing that I am 100000% sure of, is that I will NEVER ship oddities through UPS ever again, no matter how strong the carrier container may be. From this point on, any skeletal articulations MUST BE of local standing. IE, I will drive it TO YOU MY DAMN SELF.! I will never put your pets in harms way again by allowing a 3rd party to ship them. Can't trust anyone anymore. :( Skeletal articulations from this point forward, will have a 300 mile distance limit. I'll drive up to 300 miles to deliver them. (For a shipping fee). Anything further than that, either will require you to meet up, or I cant okay the sale. I apologize for inconvenience, but I refuse to allow anything of this sort to be a potential ever again. I am so sorry Uri. You deserved so much better.

Update on Uri, the snake skeleton.

Somewhere between Greensboro NC, and Hoskins IL, "something" happened to the thick wooden box containing Uri. The only notice I received, being on their actual website;( IF I typed in the tracking info and searched manually.) No phone call. No email. UPS did not even bother to reach out personally.

This fiasco happened sometime in the night on September 11th, while in transit.

We were hopeful that it was just misplaced. No such luck thus far. The box, and its contents, are both, "still missing".

This box was between half, and 3/4 inch thick wood. It was incredibly well padded, and it was SCREWED SHUT.

This was an irreplaceable skeleton of a beloved 20+ year old, loved pet.

This was approximately 8 months of work between preparing, shipping, cleaning, and articulating.

This was nothing less than an absolute tragedy on all accounts.

I have not given up. I am still searching for this box, even if most of UPS doesn't care. I have cried. I have stressed. I have spent countless hours on the phone, to no avail. My client, is even more so distraught.

If you have any advice or leads that can possibly help locate Uri, please let me know. A generous reward will be offered if found.

This incident has very much shaken me, and I am so filled with guilt and shame over losing this woman's beloved pets remains; I know I did my absolute best, and this may have been unavoidable, but that doesn't really make it any less my responsibility.

Im not sure if I will continue this oddity/skeleton building venture. I think im done once I finish the current projects, because I never want this to happen again; and I most definitely will never use UPS again.

I will still be doing bone art and articulations, its just going to take large bits on time to finalize projects for a while.

Ive been asked why I do this.

Ive also been thanked, with tears, for doing this.

Recently a client asked me to articulate and forever immortalize their deceased pet.

Her words to me were deep, and I'll never forget them.

"Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I know I could have just cremated her, but I couldn't make myself. She meant the world to me. She was my everything, and it seemed so wrong to turn her into nothing when she meant everything. I cherish what you've done for her, for us. Thank you."

We are an oddity company, specializing in non-human bone cleaning and art, and insect taxidermy. Everything we do is based from home, therefore, we are as local as it gets. We are just 2 people, so some artistic tasks may take longer than others.

We offer bone cleaning services (this service is great for hunting season) Price depends on size. You bring us a head, and using only top quality resources, we will remove the "meaty-bits" and return to you, a perfectly clean skull.

Bone whitening options are also available; as well as staining options. Staining, is the process of removing the teeth, and staining the skull any color of your choosing. The teeth are then re-inserted and glued, keeping their still white/natural teeth color. Horns/antlers will also remain white/natural color.

Bone painting is available upon request. Price varies depending on size and design type. Acrylic paint on bone, with a clear coat sealant.
