I wanted to share some information about new rules from the CDC for dogs returning to the US after international travel - including Canada - starting on August 1, 2024.

We’re still wading through the new rules, forms, fees and endorsements, so please bear with us while we all learn together how to navigate the changes.

Starting on August 1, 2024, dogs entering or returning to the United States must meet new, specific requirements depending on where they have been in the 6 months before entering the U.S. and where they received their rabies vaccines (if required).

In celebration of July 4, we will be closed July 4-7. Please plan for refills of medications and food by July 3.

Have a safe and happy holiday!

In one of the last cases of Lyme disease I diagnosed, the owner looked at me and said, “My dog has never had a tick.” He must have been bitten by a tick to have contracted Lyme disease.

Ticks can be tiny! I just pulled this (dead) tick off of Wonderdog and wanted to share how tiny it is. It would be easy to miss it.

Please make sure you are using a tick preventative (Wonderdog is protected by Bravecto). Also consider vaccinating for Lyme if you aren’t already.

A gentle reminder that we’ll be closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Please plan medication and food refills accordingly.

I’ve been taking some classes, working toward a master’s degree in veterinary forensics. This semester one of my classes is Forensic Behavior. This website came up in a lecture as a way to perform a behavioral evaluation by asking 100 questions of the person who knows the pet best.

So of course I had to try it out. Wonderdog is my over the top, super intense, constant companion - he is absolutely perfect in my eyes (likely no one else feels the same way 😂). Here’s a link to the website (and the cat version). Plus Wonder’s results - which were are dead on.

I thought some of you might also enjoy seeing how your dog or cat compares to the general population! Enjoy!! And feel free to share your results in the comments.

I know some of you have heard news stories about the respiratory disease of dogs. And I’m sure you’re worried. We have already seen an outbreak of this disease in Vermont earlier this year and last year. The University of NH has been working to identify it, but we don’t yet know the cause.

Please use common sense to keep everyone healthy. If your dog has a cough, don’t let him near other dogs. Consider avoiding dog parks and boarding when possible. Most dogs score from this without incident. But let’s still all be aware.

11/13/2023

A gentle reminder that we will be closed November 23-26 to celebrate Thanksgiving and spend some time with our families. Please make sure to plan ahead for prescription refills and food.

Tomorrow kicks off Veterinary Technician Appreciation week. Please join me in thanking the truly talented group of people who provide skilled care to your pets and support to each of our clients. There is literally no way this hospital could do the work we do without them.

I hope this morning finds all of you safe! It’s been a difficult 24 hours for our state.

We have several employees who are unable to get out of their homes this morning. We will do our best to run things business as usual today. But please be aware that we will be severely short staffed. We appreciate your patience.

A Jack Russell Terrier was found on Route 2 by Molly's Pond. It does not have a microchip or a tag on. It's here until closing (5 PM) when the dog Warden will retrieve it. Please share- the dogs owner should give us the dogs s*x and color of collar to claim.

Every single part of the lily is toxic! Your cat does not need to "eat" or "chew" on the leaves. Just rubbing up against a plant can cause fatal renal failure!

No lilies in homes with kitties!

We’re pretty short of staff due to road conditions already. And it looks like the weather is going to get worse as the day goes on. So we’re going to juggle things around and plan to send everyone home by 1:00 today. Please plan accordingly for your pets’ needs.

And have the very merriest of Christmases.

12/16/2022

Our afternoon appointments have cancelled and all the patients have gone home. So we’re going to close early and try to get everyone home before dark.

Enjoy the snow day!!
