Meet the Bob Allen Motor Mall Pet of the Week, Socks, an adorable mixed-breed bundle of joy! At just around two years old, she’s the perfect combination of sweet, energetic, and full of personality. Weighing in at only 30 pounds, she’s a small package with a BIG heart! Her bright eyes are full of life, and her short black coat, flecked with white, only adds to her irresistible appeal. 😍

This gal is an absolute charmer who loves everyone and everything. Socks loves playing fetch, going for walks, and exploring the outdoors. She also enjoys belly rubs and snuggling after an active play session. Socks is always ready to make new friends, whether playing with other dogs, cuddling with cats, or being around kids.

Socks is housebroken and in great health; her short coat is low-maintenance, but like all dogs, she enjoys regular grooming and a good brushing now and then. If you’re looking for a joyful, affectionate, and playful companion, Socks is the one for you!

Socks is fixed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to go home. Meet her and her friends at DBCHS 1-5 pm Monday and Tuesday, Noon-5 Wednesday, 11-7 on Thursday, noon-4 Friday, or 10-3 Saturday. Apply now: dbchs.org/adopt. We hope to see you soon!

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” - Martin Luther King Jr.

As we remember Martin Luther King Jr. we thank all those who do so much for the DBCHS: volunteering, donating, sponsoring, and supporting the DBCHS mission to promote the humane treatment of animals through compassionate care, engagement, and support. 🐾❤😊

All About Nova Lee:
Say hello to Nova Lee.
She is a big, loving, energetic oaf of a girl who thinks she is a lap dog. She loves to play fetch, though she doesn't always like to bring her toy back.
She needs a yard with room to run but can not be left unattended because she is an escape artist. We have tried everything to keep her in the yard.
She climbs, jumps, digs and chews her way to freedom. I think it is because she doesn't like to be left alone.
She needs some help learning manners and still jumps on people when excited.
She is a little food and toy protective, but shows a lot of promise when she is redirect with a sound and vibration collar. She is looking for a forever home that can keep up with her pace in life.

After careful review we realized we may have been mistaken! We had been calling Pepper an Irish Setter, which didn't quite fit her overall look. Turns out she's an Irish Wolfhound mixed with Labrador!

Here's some facts about Irish Wolfhounds:
• Pure bred Wolfhounds are the tallest breed of dog recognized by the American Kennel Club
• We have written record of this very breed dating all the way back to Ancient Rome in 391 ad where they were used as dogs of war in the British isles.
• In medieval times they were given as gifts to nobility visiting Ireland.
• Throughout history they have been kept as guardians, status symbols, and hunting dogs.
• They were so popular that they nearly went extinct!
• Herbert Hoover and JFK had Wolfhounds.
• They are renowned for their appearance and stature, but also famous for being loyal, friendly, and calm.

If you're creating cold weather bedding for outdoor animals, straw is a fantastic, inexpensive material that offers insulation and repels moisture - crucial for warmth.

When looking at our pups, don't forget our dogs who aren't under our roof! We've got five Mutts with Manners staying at the Northpoint Training Center to get professional training with two pawsome DBCHS volunteers and five approved inmates. The Mutts get 24/7 attention and affection while they learn their basic commands...and they can do fun tricks, too!

Apply here: dbchs.org/muttswithmanners - to arrange a meet & greet with any of these pups, call (859) 583-1774. ❤️🐾😊

All About Uki:
Uki is a charmer. She is usually in the same room as her human and warmly greets guests. She loves to play at length with her cat dancer. She's independent and likes to nap in peace much of the day. She loves steamed green beans and carrots and, in the summertime, watermelon. She also loves cat treats, cat nip, the scratching posts, and high places to perch. She likes music but not loud noises or sudden moves. She does not like the vacuum cleaner or the blender but is fine with the Roomba. She is very good about staying off the dining table and kitchen counters. She will fall asleep on your lap purring if you're under a cozy blanket and loves gentle strokes around her ears. If given the chance, she will sleep under the covers with you, especially on chilly nights.

Uki is an indoor only cat and would be happiest in a home with no other pets or children.

Welcome!

The Mission of the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society is to promote the humane treatment of companion animals through sheltering, adoptions, community education, and spay/neuter programs. The non-profit group, administered by a 12-person board, owns the Humane Society building and grounds and pays for all maintenance and improvements to the facilities. The building was built in 1978 and expanded in 2005 with a room for the cats and kittens and in 2016 the Katherine E. Nelsen Adoption Center was completed to provide modern and more humane accommodations for our dogs and puppies.

Our organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors working in cooperation with the Boyle Fiscal Court to operate the animal shelter.

The Danville-Boyle County Humane Society opened the Happy Paws Spay/Neuter Clinic in October 2007. The one-day per week clinic makes affordable surgery prices available to individuals receiving public assistance or those with low incomes. Over 1,000 surgeries are performed each year! Happy Paws is self-sustaining, receiving support from private donations and granting agencies.
