🌳🐶 Pet-proofing your lawn and garden is crucial if you want to keep your furry friend safe and healthy!

🐾 Choose pet-safe fertilizers, pesticides, and garden additives, and make sure your curious pet cannot access bags of fertilizer or chew bottles of repellents. Also, be mindful of poisonous plants, like lilies, azaleas, sago palms, and tulips, and consider transplanting them to a safer area your pet cannot access.🚫

🐶😺 Building a strong foundation for your pet's health starts with training, exercise, and play! These activities help your puppy or kitten burn energy, learn commands, and understand acceptable behavior.

🧠💪 Keeping your young pet mentally and physically engaged also strengthens the human-animal bond and helps prevent problem behaviors that may lead to relinquishing them to animal shelters.

👍🐾 Start your pet off on the right foot by incorporating plenty of training, exercise, and play into their daily routine. Need help? Call (859) 238-7500 to talk to your veterinarian.

👉🐁 Pet owners, protect your furry friends from the dangers of rodenticides!

🐶🐱 These products are highly toxic to pets and can cause internal bleeding if ingested. Most rodenticides work by inhibiting the rodent’s ability to clot blood, which can also harm cats and dogs.

👀 If you suspect your pet has ingested rat or mouse poison, watch out for symptoms such as lethargy and pale gums and contact your veterinarian immediately for treatment.

💊 Early intervention is key to a positive outcome, so be vigilant to keep your pets safe and healthy!🚫

On this solemn day, we honor the memory of all those who tragically lost their lives in the attacks on September 11, 2001, including the brave first responders, civilians, and the heroes who rushed into danger to save others.

Among these was, Sirius, a yellow Labrador Retriever and a loyal member of the Port Authority Police K9 Unit. Born in 1997 in a small town in Pennsylvania, Sirius dedicated his life to keeping people safe, serving as an explosive detection dog.

Sirius was stationed at the World Trade Center with his handler, Lt. David Lim, on that fateful day. The bond between handler and canine was strong, as they worked side by side protecting countless lives on a day to day basis. When the towers fell, Sirius became the only canine fatality in the 9/11 attacks.

In addition to Sirius' service, many other canines and their handlers played a crucial role in the search and rescue operations that followed, tirelessly searching through the rubble in hopes of finding survivors. Their dedication and courage remind us of the deep loyalty and service these dogs provide, even in the most dangerous and heartbreaking of circumstances.

Today, we remember Sirius and all those who perished, as well as the canine heroes who worked through the devastation to bring hope in the face of tragedy. Their legacy of bravery and sacrifice lives on in our hearts forever.

Here is a link to read more about some of those canine heroes.

🐾Why Spaying Your Pet Matters🐾
We recently performed surgery on a sweet 13-year-old yorkie who came to us with suspected pyometra, a serious infection of the uterus. During the procedure, we discovered that she actually had ovarian cancer. Thankfully, Dr Rowland was able to successfully remove the affected o***y and the cancerous tissue. He was able to save her life but it could have easily been too late. Her condition is a great example of why spaying your pets is crucial. By spaying your dog, you not only prevent unwanted pregnancies but also reduce the risk or serious health issues like ovarian cancer and pyometra.

🦟 Lyme disease is a vector-borne bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi. The blacklegged tick (i.e., deer tick) is the primary Lyme disease carrier, and can be found throughout many areas. The disease is transmitted when an infected blacklegged tick attaches and feeds on a warm-blooded mammal, including dogs, horses, and humans.

The bacteria enter the general circulation and trigger chronic health issues, including joint swelling and inflammation, heart damage, kidney failure, and neurologic problems. Protect your pet and yourself from this debilitating condition by contacting us at (859) 238-7500. Stay informed, stay safe, and keep your furry friend healthy! 🐾

Everyone meet “Big Head, Small Face” (as the ladies that found him are currently calling him) – A Loving Companion in Need of a very specific Forever Home!

Big Head is a sweet and affectionate 5-year-old cat who is looking for a special home. He’s been neutered, is up to date on his Rabies vaccination, and is ready to become a cherished member of your family.

Big Head has tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). FIV is a virus that affects a cat's immune system, similar to how HIV affects humans, but it's important to note that FIV is species-specific and cannot be transmitted to humans or other animals. FIV is primarily spread through deep bite wounds, so Big Head would need to be in a home where he is the only cat.

Despite his FIV status, Big Head is currently healthy and could live more happy years with the right care. Cats with FIV can live long, fulfilling lives, especially in a calm and loving environment. He’ll need regular vet check-ups and an stress-free lifestyle to help him stay healthy.

If you can offer Big Head a home where he can be the only feline, you’ll be rewarded with endless affection and loyalty. Please consider opening your heart and home to this wonderful cat. Private Message us for more details or to arrange a visit.

Separation anxiety is not always easy to spot in pets!

🤔 It can often be misidentified as other behavior issues, and can range from mild to severe.

🐾 Look out for early signs like pacing, vocalizing, and panting in dogs, as these may indicate a nervous or attention-seeking behavior. Once left alone, signs can intensify and lead to destructive behavior.

💔 If you suspect your pet has separation anxiety, seek professional advice for effective treatment. 🐶🐱
