Last week I spoke with someone considering returning their 8 month old dog they adopted when she was 3 months old because of some unwanted behaviors. The first thing they said was “I see your Facebook posts”.
I want to address the fact that some people may not like seeing why dogs are returned, some of these people may be the ones returning them, some may think people are atleast doing the right thing by not dumping them on the side of the road. 🙄
Here’s the thing…we should all strive to be better. Our bar shouldn’t be ATLEAST they did the bare minimum.
Out of all the returns we’ve had over the last few years only 2 have worked with a trainer before surrendering back. However, 100% of them said they would hire a trainer in their initial adoption application.
This is WILD to me. What is equally wild is how offended people get when I ask if they hired a trainer. But what may be the wildest of all is how I’ll have a trainer reach out to schedule an in home evaluation & they simply don’t respond…
You may not like what I have to say which is fine. Truthfully at times I HATE that I even have to say the things I do.
Just know what you see on our page is a sugarcoated version of our day to day life in rescue. You don’t see the sacrifices we make, the tears that we cry, the anger we at times feel, AND honestly you don’t want to. For the most part we share the joys that come from saving the vulnerable but that’s only a small portion of the story.
Throw back photo of my first fosters back in 2022. Behind the scenes I had a 3 month old, a 2 year old, & a 4 year old. Animal wise we had a 6 month old puppy, a 7 month old puppy, & a deaf and blind adult dog. And yes, I do understand my family isn’t like everyone else & I don’t expect for everyone to take on what we do.
