There are few things more cringe than watching yourself on camera BUT oh well!
Last month we had 17 intakes and 18 adoptions. We are in the process of intaking from 2 different shelters this week.

๐ฃ PSA: When you like the idea of adopting but not what comes afterwards.
Meet Cooper. Cooper was surrendered to one of our partner shelters in December and label as an โall around good boyโ. He is 2-3 years old and a tank of a lab at close to 90lbs.
He was adopted out by us and returned the next day because he needs training. This boy doesnโt need training he needs TIME to adjust, structure, & patience. His world has been turned upside down all while battling double ear infections.
I didnโt train him to โsitโ โlay downโ or โshakeโ his previous owner did. Now are there some things we are working onโฆabsolutely. He is learning to walk beside me on walks which required changing to a 2 handled leash (my favorite), an easy walk harness, & walking daily.
When you adopt an adult dog understand you are most likely adopting a dog that has insecurities. They have already been failed by humans, if you think they are less work than puppies they arenโt. Both require your commitment, time, and patience.

In other exciting news our Winston boy is headed home from surgery & look his smile!
This sweetie has been a trooper through all his meds, vet appointments, and surgeries.

Day 4 out of the shelter and Beau is feeling more secure. He enjoys going on his daily walk and is doing well with his recall and sitting instead of jumping for attention.
You would never guess from this video but when Beau was picked up from the shelter he was a ball of chaotic energy.
This guy is the perfect example of why fostering is so important. Itโll make transitioning in to his forever home way more enjoyable for him and his future adopter.
Being in a shelter for any period of time can be overstimulating and stressful for most animals.
