Keep your pets hydrated even on the cold days!
As temperatures drop, it's easy to forget that our furry friends still need plenty of water! Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean dehydration isn't a risk. Here are some tips to keep your pets hydrated during the freezing months:

1️⃣ Fresh Water: Make sure your pets always have access to fresh, unfrozen water. Consider using heated water bowls to prevent freezing.

2️⃣ Watch for Signs: Keep an eye out for signs of dehydration, such as dry gums, lethargy, and loss of skin elasticity. If you notice any of these symptoms, contact us immediately!

3️⃣ Feed Moist Food: If your pet is willing, add wet food or broth to their meals to help increase their fluid intake.

4️⃣ Limit Outdoor Time: While exercise is important, try to limit outdoor playtime on extremely cold days to prevent dehydration and hypothermia.

5️⃣ Hydration Reminders: Set reminders to check and refill their water bowls, especially if they’re spending time outside.

Keep your pets happy and healthy this winter! If you have any concerns about their hydration or health, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at Merritt Animal Clinic. 🐶

This bottle baby was feeling under the weather with scours (we will let ya'll look up 😉) This baby serves as a good reminder that calving season is right around the corner. It’s important for babies to be getting colostrum in the first 24 hours of birth. Owners should keep a close eye out for anyone that’s having a slow start. Early intervention is key for sickly newborn calves, especially bottle babies.

🚨TRIGGER WARNING🚨

This past holiday season included some tasty "treats" for this pup. 🚨It is so important for your pets health to monitor table scraps and garbage cans to ensure your pets do not get into them. Six pieces of corn cobs were extracted from this fur baby. Thankfully the owner reacted quickly and we were able to remove them without serious damage.

This past holiday season, we saw an increase in lost pets, and it highlighted an important truth: microchipping can make all the difference when it comes to reuniting pets with their families.

For pets with microchips, the reunification process was simple and quick. Unfortunately, for those without microchips, the process was much more challenging, often relying on luck or word-of-mouth.

Let’s start the new year by prioritizing your pet’s safety. Schedule a microchipping appointment today and ensure that if the unexpected happens, your pet can find their way back home. 479.229.2600
