We’re thrilled to announce that the winner of our pet odor candle is Nick C. Costantino, who was the first to correctly guess "bladder stones"! 🥳

As a quick educational note, Struvite stones can form due to mineral buildup in the urinary system, starting as microscopic crystals that accumulate into stones. This is often a result of the body not processing food ingredients effectively. Pets may need a special diet to reduce the likelihood of developing more stones.

Interestingly, we see crystals more often in cats than in pets overall, but stone development can occur in both. Males are at higher risk for issues, as they can become blocked by crystals, which is considered an emergency—especially for male cats.

We've received several calls regarding the EHV-1 outbreak reported in neighboring states TX and OK. Here’s what you need to know:

EHV-1 is mainly known as a respiratory and abortive disease, but it can occasionally cause neurological issues. Vaccination helps protect against respiratory effects and reduces virus shedding, which can lower the risk of neurological disease.

Horses that have traveled and may be at risk should quarantine for 3 weeks and have their temperature checked twice daily (normal is 100°F).

If you have concerns about potential exposure or need guidance on testing and treatment, please call our office. We recommend annual vaccinations for horses that don’t travel often and every 6 months for those that do.

Stay safe!
