Behavioral changes can often be the first sign of underlying health issues, and early detection can make a significant difference in treatment and outcome.
1.Tail Wagging

Dogs: A wagging tail often signifies happiness or excitement, but the speed and direction of the wag can provide more context. A slow wag might indicate cautiousness, while a broad, fast wag usually means your dog is very happy to see you.

Cats: Tail movements in cats can be more complex. A high, quivering tail often shows happiness or excitement, whereas a low, twitching tail might signal irritation or fear.
2. Vocalizations

Dogs: Barking, whining, or growling each have different meanings. Barking can indicate excitement, alertness, or anxiety, while whining often suggests distress or a need for attention. Growling is usually a sign of discomfort or aggression.

Cats: Meowing can range from greetings to demands for food. Purring typically signifies contentment, but can also occur when a cat is in pain. Hissing and growling are clear signs of fear or aggression.

3. Body Language

Dogs: A relaxed body posture with open mouth and soft eyes indicates a calm and happy dog. Raised hair, a stiff body, and direct eye contact might suggest fear or aggression.

Cats: A relaxed cat will have a loose body, half-closed eyes, and may knead with their paws. A cat that’s frightened or agitated will have wide eyes, ears flat against their head, and an arched back.

4. Eating and Drinking Habits
Changes in your pet’s eating or drinking habits can signal health issues. Loss of appetite or excessive thirst might indicate underlying medical conditions that require attention.

If you notice any sudden or drastic changes in your pet’s behavior, it’s important to consult with us at 479.229.2600

🚨🚨TRIGGER WARNING 🚨🚨
‼️Graphic Images Below‼️

Picture 1: A normal uterus of a 7 lb dog.
Picture 2: A uterus from a 7 lb dog with Pyometra.

Pyometra is a potentially life threatening disease in which the uterus becomes infected during a heat cycle usually. Infection accumulats until the uterus ruptures releasing the infection into the rest of the abdomen which usually results in septic peritonitis and potentially death unless an emergency spay is performed to remove the infected organ.

PREVENTION: Spay your female unless breeding and once done breeding, spay.

UPDATE: Ya'll we want to thank you! Because of YOU Big Ed has found his FUR-EVER home!! Thank you to everyone who took a moment to share Big Ed's story! We are so honored to be a part of this community who cares so much!! 🐾🐾

Big Ed needs your help 🐾🐾! He is a Great Pyrenees and approximately 8 years old.
He was picked up and brought to us after being hit by a car. We did surgery now he's healed up and looking for his furever home. Little dogs are not his thing. He does super with large dogs. So if you or someone you know is looking for a guardian dog, Big Ed is your guy.
We ask that you share this post to find this adorable fella a home!

Our goal of this page is one of fun and interaction so we are going to do something fun!
We want you to submit your questions for DR. G here and next week we will go live to answer some of them. If we don't get to you next week we'll save them for next time. If you want DM us your question you can do that too.
Here are the rules:
Ask questions about your pets you have always wanted to know but never asked....
"Like how often should you bathe your dog?"
Do not post pics asking for a diagnosis.
Do not answer someone else's question.
There are no dumb questions this is meant to be fun.
