With heat waves sweeping across the country, blue-green algae is appearing in new areas and posing an increased risk to pets.

Found in lakes, ponds or any source of standing water, it’s extremely toxic and consuming it can be fatal. The best way to prevent accidental poisoning is to keep a close eye on pets when they’re around water.

If you think your pet has been exposed, take them to the nearest emergency veterinary hospital and contact the ASPCA Poison Control at 888-426-4435.

We're thrilled to announce the addition of Dr. James Duffy, who will be joining our hospital on April 18th.

Dr. James Duffy graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020 and then completed an internship in small animal medicine with our hospital, VCA VREC and VCA Shoreline. He has spent the last year as an emergency veterinarian at VCA VREC in Norwalk, CT.

Dr. Duffy is a Fairfield County Native, who enjoys playing music, cooking, paddle boarding and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He has two of his own cats; Susan and Minnow.

Join us in welcoming him to our team.
