🐾 Important Message About Dog Training Affordability 🐾

We understand that times are tough, and not everyone can fit professional dog training into their budget. We recently had a client who faced a similar decision and chose not to invest in training. Sadly, their dog got into trouble, resulting in thousands of dollars in vet bills.

🤔 This serves as a reminder that sometimes, investing in training can prevent costly situations later. Spending $700 on training might have saved them from the current predicament.

💡 For those facing budget constraints, I recommend exploring free resources. Many experienced trainers share valuable insights on platforms like YouTube. Knowledge gained from these videos can make a significant difference in your dog's behavior.

Remember, your dog's well-being is essential. If you have questions or need guidance, feel free to reach out. We're here to help both you and your furry friend navigate training challenges. 🐾💙

One of my favorite moments filming a session. Phantom was trying to get my attention inside the crate while I was talking about sign language because I believed he was deaf. He decided to be sneaky and go steal my phone and bring it into his crate. It worked he got all our attention lol.

It's been a wonderful few days here in SC. The weather has a cool, crisp touch, making it incredibly refreshing. I had the privilege to watch my daughter, Elizabeth Howard, shine on stage during her 10-minute play at the university play festival. Her performance was nothing short of amazing. Carmen Vogel Howard and I are bursting with pride! Well done, Elizabeth! 🎭👏❤️

🎃🐾 Halloween Safety Tips for Your Furry Friends 🐾🎃

As Halloween approaches, it's essential to remember our four-legged family members. This fun-filled holiday can be a bit tricky for our dogs, so here are some dos and don'ts to keep them safe and happy.

Do:

Choose Pet-Friendly Costumes: If you decide to dress up your dog, ensure the costume is comfortable and doesn't restrict movement or vision. And remember, not all dogs enjoy wearing costumes, so if they seem uncomfortable, it's best to skip it.
Keep Treats Out of Reach: Halloween treats, like chocolate and candy, can be toxic to dogs. Make sure they can't access the candy bowl, and remind your guests not to share sweets with your pets.
Secure Your Dog: If you're expecting a lot of trick-or-treaters, keep your dog secure in a separate room. The constant doorbell ringing and people in costumes can be stressful for your pet.
Provide a Safe Space: If your dog gets anxious or scared during Halloween festivities, create a safe and quiet space where they can relax. A favorite room with their bed and toys works wonders.

Don’t

Don't Leave Your Dog Unattended: If you're going out for trick-or-treating, it's best to leave your dog at home. The loud noises, unusual sights, and strangers can be overwhelming.
Don't Use Candles: Jack-o'-lanterns and candles are a hazard with curious dogs around. Opt for battery-operated candles or LED lights to prevent accidents.
Don't Force Interactions: If your dog isn't comfortable with guests or kids in costumes, don't force them to interact. Respect their boundaries and let them approach new people at their own pace.
Don't Ignore IDs: With all the commotion, there's a higher risk of dogs escaping. Ensure your pup has proper identification, like a collar with tags and a microchip, just in case they get spooked and run off.
By following these Halloween safety tips, you can enjoy the holiday while keeping your furry friends happy and secure. 🐶🎃👻

For me these are the three key Ingredients for owners to understand about dog training : Boredom, Relationship, and Communication

Dog training is a journey that every pet owner embarks on to create a happy and harmonious life with their furry companions. Just like in any journey, there are essential elements that lay the foundation for success. In dog training, these three key ingredients are boredom, relationship, and communication.

1. Boredom: The Mother of Mischief

The old saying goes, "An idle mind is the devil's workshop," and it holds true for our canine friends too. Dogs, especially intelligent breeds, need mental stimulation to stay content. When they're bored, they often channel their energy into destructive behaviors. Chewed shoes, dug-up flower beds, or incessant barking are signs that your pup might be feeling unstimulated. A great part of dog training involves keeping your furry friend engaged and satisfied. This can be achieved through activities like puzzle toys, interactive games, and regular exercise. Boredom can be the root of many behavioral problems, and addressing it is the first step in successful training.

2. Relationship: The Core of Connection

A strong and trusting bond between you and your dog is at the heart of effective dog training. It's about more than just dominance; it's about respect, trust, and love. A well-established connection between you and your dog creates an environment where learning is natural. Positive reinforcement, such as treats, praises, and affection, fosters this relationship. When your dog understands that they can trust and rely on you, training becomes a joyful journey for both.

3. Communication: The Language of Learning

Dogs may not understand human language, but they are incredibly sensitive to sounds, tones, and patterns in our speech. When you say "sit" once with a gentle tone, it conveys a different message than when you repeat it multiple times with rising frustration. Your dog hears you the first time, and they need a moment to process what you're asking of them. Just like us, they have moments of contemplation, and we must respect that. Training is about mutual understanding and cooperation.

When you give a command, wait it out. Allow your dog the time to process what you've asked, and they'll be more likely to make the right decision. Avoid the temptation to repeat the command several times in quick succession, as this can create confusion. Patience is your best friend in dog training. When your pup obeys, reward them generously. They'll learn to associate the command with a positive outcome, reinforcing their understanding of your communication.

In the world of dog training, calm, confident, consistent communication and leadership is the bridge that connects you and your furry friend. Through clear, respectful, and rewarding communication, your dog will become a well-trained and happy companion.

🐾 Phantom's Training Journey: A Unique Approach! 🐕💡

Last week, during a training session with Phantom, we suspected he might be deaf, which called for a different training approach. Today's goal was to build a positive association with his crate without using traditional commands. 🐶🏠

We used a method called "shaping," which involves rewarding each step towards the desired behavior, allowing the dog to make their own choices. Phantom had total freedom in the process, making it all the more rewarding when he willingly went into his crate on his own! 🙌

But that's not the best part... In just under 16 minutes, Phantom had a fun surprise for us. He grabbed my phone and took it into the crate! 📱🤣

Check out the full video to see this clever and adorable moment. Phantom's progress is remarkable, and we can't wait to see what he learns next! 🐾🚀

Okay folks, got 15-16 mins? watch this video…. Some may find this slow and tedious but to get a dog to love their crate without luring and encouraging them inside. It’s incredible when you let the dog figure out the problem. Here I am working with phantom who we believe is deaf so I changed my training approach slightly. Getting him to like and go in his crate without directly luring him inside. He has total free will in the process during shaping, and the result are amazing. He even decides to pick up my phone and take it in the crate with him at the end lol.
