The countdown is on, just 7 weeks until Horse World Expo!! Clarity will be supporting Gaited Advocate Intervention Team, Inc. 501c3 in their booth on Breed Row to show off the amazing rescue GAIT rescue horses including our own resident alumni Delilah and Link. The Expo is an opportunity for GAIT to educate the public on gaited horses and the rescue process, demonstrate how wonderful these horses can be, and fundraise to continue to be the only gaited specific rescue serving the region.

Please help us to send GAIT to the Expo with expenses paid so that all funds can go directly to horses in need. Our goal is $960 to cover the Breed Row booth, booth electric, tack stall, plus stalls for 2 adoptable horses. GAIT is entirely volunteer run and is a 501(c)3 non-profit and GFAS verified rescue. Thank you from us and all the GAIT horses past, present, and future!

Merry Christmas from the Clarity Dressage Team season opener at Clarksville PVDA's annual 'Ugly Holiday Sweater' show.

We had a full day with 11 horse and rider pairs from Intro to Freestyle. Starting with the best, Team Sammy stole the show tying for First in Intro A with Lainey and then 3rd in Intro B with Colette as well as winning the junior costume award. All the Christmas cookies for Sammy. Also in Intro B, Kelsey stepped over to the dark side showing Estrella for 5th place. Elizabeth introduced Paliana to horse shows coming in 1st place with a 65% at Intro B for a definite place on Santa's 'Nice' list.

Debuting both her horses at Training Level, Lydia earned 3rd in Training 1 with Moe and 4th and 3rd with Cash at Training 1 and 2. Rebecca and Rory warmed up at Training 3 coming 3rd before stepping up to First 1 for 5th place.

Continuing with First level Sarah and Ophelia took 2nd at First 1 and 3rd at First 3. Rebecca and Sarah with their beautiful dark mares and festive outfits won the adult costume awards. Back for a second trip, Kelsey and Mic rode First 1 for 4th place with the cutest Santa hat ever.

Rounding out our day Shannon and Harley gave a try for their First Freestyle and lived to ride another day. Katie and Java got back in the dressage ring for 5th at First 2 and then 2nd at First 3 with an impressive 64%.

Thank you to Sabrina for being our personal photography elf and to Sarah, Chris, and Dottie for lending extra hands. Thanks to Colette for the amazing crinkle cookies keeping our team blood sugar at holiday appropriate levels. As always, thank you to the Clarksville PVDA crew and judge for a wonderful and educational show and to Linda Speer for sharing your absolutely gorgeous farm with us!

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Wrapping up our fall hunter pace season, it turns out that we can actually ride close to optimum time if we leave a certain creature at home...

At the end of October Clarity headed west to Middletown for the NM-MVH pace – another worth the drive adventure for our Halloween themed team Gotham City’s finest with Daddy's Little Mo-nster up on Honor, Joker Gabby on Sheriff (joke was on her), and Catwoman Elizabeth on Estrella. The course was new to us and had great terrain and jumps. Despite a midpoint wardrobe malfunction forcing a hold on course, we had a great time.

Next up in November our home pace at Marlborough Hunt Club. Clarity had three teams out with Low Optimum, Flat, and Junior Low Optimum rounds. We tailgated all day in beautiful fall weather, certain chocolate dogs ate waaaaay too much pastry, and our Junior team won their division!!

Finally our finale at Carrolton Hounds, which is one of our favorite courses. We split into High and Low teams but rode out together. The course was better than ever this season with extra trail through the woods and some nice new options. We had so much fun!! Despite attempted sabotage by the High team (teammate thieves!!) the Low won our division.

Thank you to all the volunteers and hunt clubs for putting on a great season, the Maryland Hunter Pace Circuit, and to our teammates for riding with us. Thank you to ADM Horse Feeds for keeping our horses in optimum condition, if not always optimum time.

A year end awards wrap up, with sadly not enough pictures to celebrate all our successful riders.

Congratulations to Dressage Team members who participated in the Winter 2024 Clarksville PVDA schooling series. Sarah B and Skip came in 4th for Intro in their inaugural show season, Kelsey and Mic well earned Reserve Champion in Training Level, and we had a big group in First Level with Gabby and Barley coming 4th, Jesseanne and Briggs in 5th, and Shannon and Harley in 6th place. We're looking forward to staring up with the 2025 Winter series next weekend with Clarksville's annual Ugly Christmas Sweater show!

Another huge congratulations to Gabby and Sheriff who came in year end 6th in 0.80M jumpers, Champion in 0.90M jumpers and 3rd in the Dover Saddlery High Jumper Challenge at the 2024 season Black-Eyed Susan Horse Shows awards banquet. Thank you to BEST for a lovely awards banquet with plenty of swag, including a sturdy coach's chair for Elizabeth to collapse into while watching rounds.

As always thank you to the competition managers and volunteers who give us these opportunities and to Clarity Riding's friends, family, and sponsors for supporting us throughout the season. ADM Animal Nutrition - Horse Feeds

Dressage Team finished our 2024 season with the PVDA Fall Show.

Elizabeth and Fireball rode small tour with Prix St George on Saturday and Intermediate 1 on Sunday. Fireball worked through some feelings about riding in the indoor arena and earned 5th place at PSG and 3rd at I1. Over the course of the season Fireball has brought his averages up 3 percentage points and moved up a level to Intermediate 1 adding new skills like full pirouettes and 2 tempis.

Jesseanne had her licensed ring debut with Briggs at First Level. Each test rode better than the last as Jesseanne gained confidence and became bolder in her direction. Professor Briggs was a perfect gentleman and still has the moves.

Thank you to ADM Animal Nutrition - Horse Feeds for keeping our horses in top shape. Thank you to the show volunteers, everything ran on time and smoothly. Thank you to our Clarity fam for supporting us throughout the season including our dressage guiding light - Marija Trieschman of Exalt Farm.

November started with a little bit of left over Halloween spirit at the Jersey Devil CTR hosted by the New Jersey Trail Ride Association. We packed up baby Ray plus his two big brothers Taxi and Mic and his pony best friend Sheriff to head to the south Jersey Pine Barrens.

Ray's first outdoor camping adventure, he was a perfect gentleman in his pen despite some cute girls next door. Saturday morning we vetted in and then decorated our horses as the Spirit of Fall (Ray), a lobstah (Taxi), Miss Maryland (Mic), and a pineapple (Sheriff). Why do horses tolerate us? Oh right, cookies.

Our group headed off for the 15 mile CDR ride with a polite but energetic trip to the start line. This ride was really all about creating a positive first experience for Ray. He was excellent with passing strange horses from behind and head on and was a gentleman in the lead, as the caboose, and in the middle. He was interested in but not afraid of the carts, wildlife, gun shots, Jeeps, and other on trail items. He tried drinking and eating on trail and thought it was pretty okay. Despite this being the longest ride of his life by about 9 miles, Ray trotted happily down trail, with appropriate walk breaks for young legs, without feeling tired until about mile 14.5.

Very limited booking is available for Ray, frozen only LFG. Please message us for more information, his is registered with American Morgan Horse Association as Throwing Shade and is out of our endurance mare Sheez-A-Dayzee and by sport horse stallion Privilege CH. His temperament is to die for and his gaits and conformation are solid and suited for sport. We expect him to throw size, charisma, and correct build and movement. He has great lines for jumping. 2025 foal contracts also available.

Thank you to NJTRA management, judges, volunteers, and fellow competitors for helping us to create a safe and positive first ride for a young stallion. Thank you to our teammates Jesseanne, Skylar, and Jessica for coming along (literally) for the ride. Thank you to ADM Horse Feeds for being the nutritional base for our herd from the start.

Worth the drive for just for the fall foliage, Elizabeth and Fireball showed Prix St George at the October Dressage at Blue Goose show. Another step on the path, Fireball put in really solid trot and walk tours with the canter work coming along nicely despite a few bobbles. The picture keeps getting prettier and prettier with this young Morgan gelding.

Thank you to ADM Horse Feeds for fueling the journey. Thank you to owner Jesseanne for supporting Fireball's development.

Have we learned from past mistakes? Clearly not because once again the third weekend in October found us cramming in three competitions in three disciplines across two states. Rounding out our weekend, we headed to Schooley Mill for PVDAs annual Halloween dressage schooling show. How could we miss this much fun?

Lydia and Moe started us strong in Intro for 1st, 2nd and 2nd placings in Intro A through C. Rebecca and Rory debuted as Death at Training 1 and 2 for 4th and 5th placings and the coveted best adult costume prize, thanks to Anytime Tack. Continuing at Training level Maya put her practice to good use earning for 4th with Mic at their first show together. Moving on to First Level Khaleesi Sarah and her dragon Ophelia led with an impressive 66% at First 1 earning 2nd as well as 3rd place in First 3. Kelsey took the reins on Mic as a cow for 4th place in First 1 and classic clowns Shannon and Harley finally conquered First 3 for 2nd place and breaking 60%.

Thank you to PVDA, volunteers, and judges for hosting!

Our last 4H show of the 2024 season had Clarity’s pair of perfect boys, CrackerJack and Coca, cleaning up with our youth riders!!

Amelia and Coca had their swan song at Leadline winning 2nd and 3rd placings for division Reserve Champion. Also in their final show at the level Annabel and Coca earned double 6th placings in the Walk division. CrackerJack joined the party for the Walk divisions with Angel coming 2nd in Walk and George 5th in Performance Walk. Dynamic duo Coca and Colette continued to show strong in Jr Walk/Trot equitation earning 5th in flat and 3rd o/f. Joining Coca-Coco in Jr W/T, Teagan and CrackerJack really stepped-up winning 3rd u/s and 2nd o/f for division Reserve Champion. The finale for our day and our 2024 4H season, Mia and Coca showed Jr W/T/C equitation coming 2nd and 2nd u/s and o/f for division Reserve Champion.

Thank you to the Linthicum 4H Hi-Riders for continuing the 4H tradition with another season of well-run, friendly, inviting, safe, fun, and educational shows. We all feel welcomed and nurtured at 4H! Thank you to our friends and family who brave cold mornings and long days to support our riders. There is never thanks enough for our amazing horses (and the humans who share them with us) who tolerate show nerves, crowded arenas, mistakes, long waits, tears, hugs, all with grace and patience to bring up each new generation of equestrians.

11/20/2024

If we’ve given the impression that we are good at planning, that’s only half true. What we are really good at is being constantly prepared for fun (i.e. bad) ideas. The East Coast Ride and Tie Championships in Fort Valley, VA had been on our calendar all year, but as the date approached, we only had half a team committed. Three days before the ride, a call came out for horses needed and since our horses weren’t obligated, we of course we offered to help. What started as some possible horses turned into full on ride and tie participation!

On a gorgeous October Friday, we headed to Fort Valley to meet up with the rest of our teams. Tiffany competed with Lessie and her horse Ray for Friday’s Long Course Championship 30-mile course. Despite being the first time this team worked together, they really clicked coming 2nd place!

On Saturday Elizabeth and Carrie took Estrella out for the Short Course Championship 15-mile ride and tie. Carrie may have crushed 4000 competitive ride and tie miles over the Fort Valley weekend, but this ride was Estrella’s first ride and tie. Elizabeth started out riding and Carrie running. After about ¾ of a mile Elizabeth got off and tied Estrella and then, in a moment of betrayal that Estrella may never forgive, ran off down trail. After being rescued by Carrie, Estrella quickly got the point of the game and was perfect all day waiting quietly when tied, nickering to us when we approached, and then cruising down trail to find her runner. We had an amazing time and came in 3rd overall and 1st woman-woman team.

Rounding out our Saturday we FINALLY got Maria del Carmen out to an endurance ride in the USA after 4 years of trying! With lots of FEI endurance experience in her native Argentina, we’ve been dying to show Maria the technical trails and stunning scenery characteristic of NE endurance riding. We thought we were going to miss out again, but we saw our chance and Queen Sheda took Maria around the 15-mile intro ride ‘tour de fields’, finishing as the first horse naturally.

Thank you to Diane, Janice, Dawn, and the rest of Old Dominion Endurance and Ride and Tie folks for hosting. A huge thank you to Carrie and Lessie for being great teammates to us green bean ride and tiers.

Keep yourself and your horses fit, take rest time, maintain good nutrition for horses (thanks ADM!!) and humans, and generally the bad ideas do turn out fun!

Crisp October air means it’s hunter pace season! We had our OG riders with NG horses for Katie taking around Honor (for sale!), Elizabeth on Rory (’25 foal x Throwing Shade for sale) and Elana with her Ozzie (not for sale, but he’s cute!). Always a fun time galloping around the countryside with our Clarity buds. And for a change, we actually placed (2nd, go team)!!

Thanks to Potomac Hunt for hosting us on your beautiful course!

Our Jumper Team riders KILLED IT!!! at the September Linthicum Hi-Riders 4H show.

Team Coca kicked off with Amelia riding Leadline and Leadline W/T winning 2nd and 3rd. Next Annabel rode Walk and Performance Walk earning 1st 3rd and overall division Champion! On to a very competitive and large Jr Walk/Trot Equitation division, Colette and Coca earned 6th u/s and 5th o/f. After a nap break Coca rocked it again with Mia in Jr W/T/C Equitation placing 2nd u/s and 4th o/f.

Team CrackerJack was composed of Angel in Walk and Beginner Trail winning 2nd place and debuting Teagan in Jr W/T Eq u/s and o/f for 3rd in her very first jump round!! Also debuting we had Team Teddy in Green Horse with Sabrina. It was hard work, not beginners luck, that earned the pair blue in u/s and o/f and division Champion!

Thank you to the 4H Hi-Riders and volunteers for hosting! Thank you to our families and teammates, especially Alissa and Giselle, for coming along to groom and cheer! Thank you to ADM Horse Feeds for keeping our steady seniors feeling great well into their golden years!

Held annually at Rosaryville State Park, Marlborough Horse Trials is our local southern Maryland event for both recognized and starter horse trials as well as our local competition course schooling opportunity. Clarity’s Jumper Team spent two September weekends with MHT first volunteering for the recognized event, then enjoying an XC schooling day before competing in the starter horse trials.

Our competition started with a battle of the coaches with Katie aboard her semi-retired OTTB Java and Gabby piloting Clarity’s Morgan pony Sheriff through the Novice division. After a lot of smack talk (there may have been threats of banana pie and tack cleaning), experience won with Katie taking 2nd and Gabby 8th in the division. Sheriff put all the pieces together for his best Novice run yet. Katie also rode Clarity’s homebred Mic in the BN division for a combined test of dressage and stadium.

Rounding out our team we had two Intro pairs. Kelsey and Bonnie met the last of Kelsey’s 2024 competition goals by completing an entire Horse Trials earning 6th place. Elana and her OTSTB Ozzie debuted at their first Horse Trials coming in 4th place.

Thank you to Marlborough Horse Trials for keeping eventing strong in southern Maryland. Thank you to ADM Horse Feeds for the pony fuel. Thank you to our teammates for trading off volunteering, grooming, coaching, and cheering through 5 horses, 3 phases, and two weekends.

11/05/2024

Endurance riding, a long distance sport with long term goals. We’ve been working on a 3-year plan to attend the 2025 AERC National Championship ride at Biltmore in 2025. With horses, there is so much that can go wrong to almost make planning laughable, yet here we are slowly putting down the building blocks towards our goal. To that end, Clarity’s Distance Team headed off for one more preview trip of the Biltmore trails for the fall Hope for Horses fundraiser endurance ride.

Jesseanne and Elizabeth packed up Taxi and Estrella, plus Ellie Mae as our canine sidekick for this adventure. We headed to Biltmore a day early to let the horses rest and test out our Nationals ride plan. Friday, we cared for the horses, enjoyed lunch in Biltmore Village, and explored the Biltmore Gardens with Ellie.

Saturday morning our teams started separately before meeting back up to complete the majority of the 50-mile ride together. The fall trails offered a different take on the Mansion side of the estate for an inviting first loop. The second loop headed across the French Broad River, where Estrella learned that sheep don’t actually bark and dogs are cool. We had a relaxed last loop, again on the far side of the French Broad, this time with a quick trip through the vineyards and then winding through the Biltmore ranch lands with stunning views and some truly impressive Angus cattle. Our horses came into the finish feeling strong for a tied mid-pack 27th place.

Five days after we returned from Biltmore, Hurricane Helene parked itself over western North Carolina washing out much of Ashville and Biltmore Village. The field we had camped in next to the scenic French Broad River ended up 20 feet under water, the road we drove in on washed out completely. Weeks have passed but the region and it’s people and animals are still in need of help. Please consider donating to Hope for Horses, a 501(c)3 rescue servicing western North Carolina https://www.hopeforhorses.org/support

It’s always a party at Fall Chessie! This September’s ride was no exception with three days of fun at scenic Fair Hill in Elkton Maryland.

We arrived Friday evening, got the horses settled, vetted, and pre-rode. We all enjoyed Friday campfire and comradery before the competitive rides for the weekend. Saturday started out with Elizabeth on favorite ride Sheda and Olivia taking over the reins on Estrella for the 10-mile CDR. In case Elizabeth was thinking Sheda’s age might be catching up to her, Sheda was sure to throw in a giant buck and gallop up the last hill and then vetted through easily. Estrella was absolutely perfect for 10 miles with junior Olivia. Jessica and Delilah and Tiffany on Taxi tackled Saturday’s 25-mile CTR. The pairs came in exactly on time earning Tiffany her longest ride completion yet. Meanwhile Elana with her OTSTB Ozzie, Dottie on Jimmy, Katie and her OTTB Java, and Phil with Chip enjoyed the 15-mile CDR loop. Everyone completed with flying colors, putting up personal record milestones for Dottie and Phil. We enjoyed our regular trip to Fair Hill Saddlery for bad decision making and another night around the campfire.

Sunday Elizabeth was back on Estrella accompanying junior Skylar for her first competitive ride with Delilah in 25-mile CTR. We rode out from start line on the 15-mile trail, hitting the cross-country field intersection with the 10-mile trail just in time to see juniors Magnolia on Sheda, Olivia with Taxi, and Jazmin aboard Chip, with senior Elana conceivable chaperoning aboard Ozzie, all riding way too fast and having a great time doing it. Our CDR crew must have found their chill at some point, as they finished in perfect timing with 100% completions and no regrets. Also out on the 10-mile loop, Clarity had Katie and Tiffany ride and tieing with Jimmy. Despite being Katie and Jimmy’s first ride and tie, the trio finished in great time and with all participants sound. Meanwhile, our 25 milers finished the first loop and headed out for the last 10 miles. We finished with Estrella as Grand Champion for the CTR and Delilah finishing out her first 50-mile weekend.

Thank you to the entire Clarity Distance Team. Everyone pitches in, cleans stalls, crews, volunteers, and all with a smile. It is a pleasure and privilege to ride with you all! Thank you to Cate, Denise, Ben, John, Helen, and crew for putting on another fantastic Chessie weekend.
