Exciting News at Acorn Veterinary Clinic/Oak Tree Animal Rehabilitation !

Today, we performed our very first Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injection Therapy on Skipper, a brave 12-year-old Sheltie battling multiple joint osteoarthritis. Our talented team—Dr. Koh, Dr. Blair, and our incredible physical rehabilitation technicians, Barb and Allie—worked together to prepare and deliver this cutting-edge treatment to help Skipper feel his best.

What is PRP Therapy?
PRP is a regenerative treatment that uses a concentrated preparation of the animal’s own platelets to promote healing, reduce inflammation, and stimulate tissue repair. By taking a blood sample, we process it to extract the platelet-rich portion, which is then injected directly into areas like joints, tendons, or muscles.

Roo, a five-month old Australian Shepherd cross, getting a physical rehabilitation session. Roo’s name came from her walking like a kangaroo because both of her front legs were broken. She is getting TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation), acupuncture and various therapeutic exercises with the goal of walking on all four legs again. She will be starting treatment using our underwater treadmill soon, so stay tuned!

Hey Oak Tree family! The next week is forecasted to have days reaching up to 110°F. Not only is the air going to be hot but the ground will be too. Parking lots, roads, and sidewalks are especially good at retaining heat and will even be much hotter than 110°F in that weather. Please take care when walking your pets so they don't burn their paws! If you can not keep the back of your hand on the ground for 10 seconds then it is definitely too hot for your pet's paws. Look into getting some booties to protect your pup's feet!

Water offers a fantastic and invigorating environment for exercise. The underwater treadmill is a unique and safe method of rehabilitation that leverages the natural buoyancy and resistance of water. This therapeutic method strengthens muscles and enhances flexibility while placing minimal pressure on the joints. The warm water further boosts flexibility and mobility in the muscles, tendons, and ligaments surrounding the joints, and also improves circulation.
