UC Davis Horse Day is this Saturday October 11th! It's not too late to get your tickets and join us for a day filled with educational equine presentations and discussions. You'll learn from industry experts including Dr. Emily Berryhill, who will be presenting on PPID. Here's a little more about Dr. Berryhill:

Dr. Berryhill obtained her B.S. and DVM degrees from UC Davis. After working at an equine veterinary clinic for 2 years in rural Texas, she returned to UC Davis and completed a Large Animal Internal Medicine Residency. Dr. Berryhill stayed on at UC Davis as faculty in Field Service and then in Equine Internal Medicine, where she is currently an Associate Clinical Professor. Dr. Berryhill's veterinary interests include endocrinology, oncology, and donkey medicine.

Tomorrow is the last day to save on your UC Davis Horse Day tickets! Head on over to our Horse Day website to register. Our last Speaker Spotlight is a crowd favorite, Dr. Brett Turi! Dr. Turi has some valuable information to share about equine osteoarthritis and helping equine athletes perform at their best. Let's learn a little more about Dr. Turi:

Brett Turi is a Southern California native whose passion for horses started early with competitive three-day eventing, setting the stage for a career dedicated to equine health. She graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, and then completed a one-year internship at Littleton Equine Medical Center. She moved to San Diego to join a multi-doctor practice focusing on lameness and diagnostic imaging for sport horses, thoroughbred racehorses, and polo horses. Now, as a Professional Services Veterinarian with Dechra since February 2022, Dr. Turi combines her deep knowledge of equine medicine with a passion for helping other veterinarians excel.

Are you and your mare expecting a foal this spring? Whether you have a baby on the way or you just want to learn more about equine reproduction, you won't want to miss Dr. Renaudin's session on the final stages of pregnancy. This topic and more will be featured at UC Davis Horse Day on October 11! We hope to see you there! In the meantime, let's learn a bit about Dr. Catherine Renaudin:

Dr. Renaudin obtained her doctoral veterinary degree from the School of Veterinary
Medicine in Lyon, France. After working in private practice in France for several
years, she completed a residency in Equine Reproduction at UC Davis. She then
joined the service as a faculty member and recently became service chief. Dr.
Renaudin is a Diplomate of the European College of Animal Reproduction (equine
emphasis). Her special interests include high-risk pregnancies, placental
pathologies, fetal well-being, and ultrasonography of the ge***al tract of mares and
stallions.

We're counting down the days to UC Davis Horse Day! Remember to register by this Sunday to save on your ticket price! Once you've registered you can start planning which sessions you want to attend. You definitely won't want to miss the ranch horse demonstration led by Michelle Reeser in the main arena! Here's a little bit of background on this speaker:

"Michelle Reeser is the owner/trainer at Forza Equine, a Northern California mobile training program that focuses on western performance disciplines including Reining and Ranch Riding. As a student at UC Davis, Michelle competed on the IHSA Western Team, taught beginner and intermediate lessons, summer camp, and worked as a barn supervisor, stall cleaner, and feeder. After completing her BS degree in Animal Science and Management, she found her career at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine as a licensed veterinary and pharmacy technician. Michelle continued to ride and train several of her own horses as a Non-Pro and sought help from local NRHA professionals to further her skills. Most recently, she has successfully competed in NRHA, WCRHA, AQHA, and WRHA events in reining and ranch riding. Michelle's love of teaching inspired her to fill a need in today's industry, sharing her knowledge with green and amateur riders in an accessible way, and helping them achieve their equestrian goals. Forza Equine focuses on important aspects of western horsemanship, from functional equitation to correct equine carriage."

UC Davis Horse Day helps us all become better horse owners and more informed horse enthusiasts! If you're interested in topics ranging from nutrition, genetics, sports medicine, to reproduction, there is sure to be something to learn at this event. Lindsey Close is back this year to share some valuable nutritional wisdom to consider when it comes to feeding our four-legged friends. Let's learn a little more about Lindsey:

With nearly 30 years of hands-on horse experience and two decades in the equine feed industry, Lindsey Close is passionate about equine nutrition and behavior. She is an equine nutrition advisor, a certified professional through the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists (ARPAS), and holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. She is currently pursuing an MBA in Equine Management and previously taught as an adjunct professor at Santa Rosa Junior College. Lindsey Close also owns and operates a specialized senior horse boarding facility near Valley Springs, CA, and enjoys exploring a variety of disciplines, from English to ranch boxing.

Just two weeks until UC Davis Horse Day 2025! Have you snagged your tickets yet? Head on over to our website to learn more about this event and to register today! At this event, you'll have the chance to learn from equine industry experts, including todays speaker spotlight: Dr. Rebecca Bellone! Here's a little more about her:

Dr. Bellone earned her Ph.D. in Equine Genetics from the University of Kentucky in 2001. Subsequently she was on faculty in the Department of Biology at the University of Tampa and then joined the faculty at the University of California, Davis in 2014. Since 2017, she also directs the Veterinary Genetics Laboratory, a unit of the School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis with an international reputation as experts in veterinary genetic testing. Since 2002, she has led an equine genetics and genomics research program unraveling the causes of both coat color variation and genetic disorders in the horse.

Next up on our Speaker Spotlight is Dr. Camilo Morales! Here to share super helpful tips on administering common equine medications, Dr. Camilo helps round out our Horse Day event with this informative session that is sure to be useful for any equine owner. Let's learn a little more about Dr. Morales:

Dr. Morales was born and raised in Colombia, where he completed his veterinary education. After practicing as a veterinarian for a year, he transitioned to academia, serving as an assistant professor of large animal internal medicine for six years. During this period, he also earned a master’s degree in equine medicine. Dr. Morales then completed a specialty internship in large animal internal medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College. Following this, he pursued a residency in large animal internal medicine at the University of California, Davis, where he works as a staff veterinarian in the teaching hospital and undertook a PhD in pharmacology and toxicology. Additionally, he is a resident of the American College of Veterinary Clinical Pharmacology.

Here's the scoop on this industry professional:

Dan Mannion has over 40 years of experience in the horse industry; from performance horses through breeding AQHA/APHA World and Reserve World Champions. He held judges cards for many years in APHA, ABRA, WCHA, ApHA, NSBA, and PtHA. Dan has been a trainer for over 30 years specializing in halter horses for Open, Amateur, Select and Youth clients. He has also served on many association boards and committees. Dan has demonstrated not only his commitment, but also his passion for horses, the industry, and in helping others to be better horsemen.
