Wow! The 31st Annual UC Davis Horse Barn Production Sale was another one for the record books! We are so thankful for our buyers, those who attended the Sale Showcase, and everyone who placed bids online this year. Your support helped generate a record-breaking $90,650 for the program with an average of $9,065 per head. Congratulations to those who are going home with a new UC Davis horse or mule, we hope that you enjoy them as much as we did. We are sure you will go on to do great things!

Today is the day! Our Sale Showcase will kick off today at 4:30PM, beginning with an Open House and sale Meet and Greet. Stop by to meet the sale horses and mules, visit with the production interns, tour the Horse Barn, grab some delicious food from the Buckhorn food truck, and enjoy a beverage from our beer and wine garden. Then, at 6PM we'll gather at the main arena for our Sale Showcase featuring each sale animal demonstrating their groundwork training, movement, and personality. It may be a hot one but you can grab yourself a complimentary cold beer, glass of wine, or some water and join us for a good time!

To wrap up our sale list, these two yearlings are sired by some of the top performing, WORLD CHAMPION stallions in their industry! Included in this year's auction are these two fantastic German Sport Horse x Oldenburg yearlings sired by Macho 114! They are both talented and graceful movers who are sure to turn heads in the show ring. They were bred and raised by our friends at the UC Davis Center for Equine Health and we are excited to include them in our sale!

Unfortunately, these youngsters have come down with a bit of a cold and won't be able to join us at the Sale Showcase. To avoid exposing other horses, these yearlings have remained at their home facility at the Center for Equine Health. However, they are otherwise happy and healthy and will still be available in the online auction! The infections are expected to resolve quickly with no long-term effects. Their new owners will be able to pick them up at the Center for Equine Health once they receive negative test results. Boarding fees will not be charged during this time. It was a Derby Day foaling here at the Horse Barn on Saturday! Even though she's not a racing thoroughbred, our mare Smart Kesha Rose got in on the action by delivering this fancy bay roan filly Saturday night. This foal is bred to be a top-notch cow horse, by Once in a Blu Boon and her dam is by WR This Cat's Smart. Bloodlines, build, and color, this filly's got it all! She brings our foal count to 7 fillies and 2 c**ts with one more left to go!

For anyone who's counting, of the eight Horse Barn foals born so far, seven were all within just two weeks of each other! Only two left to go! We want to send a huge kudos to this year's group of Mare and Foal Management Interns who have been working so hard to make sure both mamas and babies are all happy and healthy. These undergraduate students have been working overtime balancing all of these babies on top of a full load of classes, training their yearlings, and showing off the Horse Barn at our action-packed Picnic Day event. This internship program is truly an immersive equine experience, these interns do it all! Great job!

Apparently, Danzing Doll thought she was missing out on all the April foaling action! She wasn't due until early May, but surprised us with this precious molly mule sometime Tuesday night. Maidens and mules never seem to follow the rules, but both mama and molly are doing great! This little lady is by UCD Actions Protégé and brings our filly vs c**t count to 6 to 2, with 2 more foals to go!
