Back in January, Governor Brian Kemp appointed Dr. Seth to serve on the State Board of Veterinary Medicine, and on March 19th his family had the privilege of participating in his official swearing-in ceremony.

A close friend of ours joked that morning about how Governor Kemp must've had to scroll through a long list of veterinarians to find Seth. While I might be a bit biased, I truly believe there’s no one more deserving of this honor. Seth’s dedication to veterinary medicine is something you can’t fully appreciate unless you see it up close — which his family has had the privilege of doing since before he even finished vet school. We’ve witnessed the long hours, late-night emergency calls, and endless days of work that most people don’t see or understand. He’s the sole owner/operator of his practice, Hillside Veterinary Services, balancing everything from taking care of patients to bookkeeping and even answering the phone. (So, if he doesn’t answer, please leave a voicemail or follow up with a text — chances are he’s out on a farm taking care of an animal. And we promise, y’all probably talk to him more than his wife does!) But beyond all of that, he takes the time to educate the owners, and build relationships that will last a lifetime.

In addition to being an incredible veterinarian, Seth is a child of God, a devoted husband and father, a loving son, a loyal friend, a school community partner, and a county commissioner. He wears so many hats, and does it all with such grace, heart, and commitment to following God’s will.

This opportunity came into our lives when we least expected it, and truthfully, we weren’t even looking for it. One thing we must always remember is that God's plans for our lives is far greater than anything we could ever plan for ourselves.

Dear God,
We thank you for this day. Thank you for the freedom we celebrate on the 4th of July. We ask for your blessings on our country and our people.
Help our leaders make wise decisions.
Keep our soldiers safe. Give us peace and unity.
Let us always remember to be kind to each other, to help when we can, and to love our neighbors as ourselves.
We give you all the glory and praise.
Amen.

Meet Dr. Stowers

Dr. Stowers grew up on a small family farm in Dawsonville, Georgia. During his youth, he was an active member of both 4-H and FFA where he showed livestock, participated on the Livestock Judging Team, and served as a State FFA Officer. These programs allowed Dr. Stowers to gain a deep understanding of not only the production and health of livestock but also an understanding of the importance of how to handle livestock. In 2005, he began his own small beef cattle operation that he continues to grow today. He has used the knowledge he gained throughout his education to implement different practices and protocols to improve his herd.

Dr. Stowers completed his first two years of undergraduate at North Georgia College and State University (now UNG). He graduated Cum-laude from the University of Georgia in 2014 where he received a Bachelor’s of Science in Poultry Science. While at UGA he was active in UGA Cattleman’s Association, Block and Bridle, UGA Poultry Science Club, and competed on UGA’s Poultry Judging Team. Dr. Stowers attended the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine where his studies were emphasized in Food Animal Medicine and Production. He graduated Cum-laude with his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. Throughout the curriculum at UGA CVM, he lived and worked at Rose Creek Farm, UGA’s Veterinary School farm. In order to gain a better knowledge and develop his skills in cattle medicine he completed externships at Krebs Ranch in Nebraska and bovine veterinary practices in Texas, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia. These practices provided herd health and preventative medicine to Cow-Calf producers.

Dr. Stowers began Hillside Veterinary Services in May of 2018. His professional interests encompass anything involving beef cows especially herd health and preventative medicine. He enjoys working with cattle producers in North Georgia to help both improve their herd and to increase profits all while improving the quality of the cattle they produce. Dr. Stowers is also excited to have an opportunity to give back to FFA and 4-H, two programs that provided him with numerous opportunities, through working with local youth.

Personally, Dr. Stowers loves spending time with his wife, Becca, and his chocolate lab, Huck. He also enjoys spending time with his family, Reggie, Carolyn, and Leah Stowers, and his friends who have played a vital role in helping him reach his goals. He continues to improve and grow his cow herd. Dr. Stowers is an avid hunter, NASCAR enthusiast, a huge Georgia Bulldog football fan and loves cheering on the "Dawgs."
